  1. Remote Heal For The Non-magical

yeah, i really side tracked myself there, didn't I? okay, what using scrolls would be good for is when there's a couple of fighters together. even in training, healing each other  that's a better example of what i was getting at... getting into semi multifight in a non multi map, having backup like that of course, with remote heal not being a high level spell, being able to have scrolls of more powerful magics would be even more useful, a warrior with little magic practice carrying a scroll of harm for a nice suprise (okay, so there's rings of damage... scroll of poison then) then again, BR at 20 health vs remote heal for a new magicer at... 5 health? 10?
  2. Remote Heal For The Non-magical

potion was given as an example, but the idea of scrolls works a lot better (read realistic) for what i wanted. add stuff like remote shield, etc, and you have party work. yes, having a healer backing you up sure does give you an advantage, but then, you have another person having to do stuff in the battle (and in a big fight, they have to be careful not to get engaged)... this would help in 'party' systems (many RPGs have this, so you have have experts in several areas work together, this doesn't really work in EL as well as it could) and even large scale wars, the sort that are written about in storylines... imagine two (or more!) armies approaching (on a multi-pk map, of course) each other, swordsmen and axemen (and women) up front, then archers(when we have ranged weapons), summoners, healers, offensive casters, and following up is the troup that makes and repairs weapons, armour, magical items... as much as i like working towards self-reliance, i think allowing people to become experts in a field and use that to work with experts in other areas would help a great deal
  3. Time Changes: Adding Days

#date <addition> as far as i can tell, the EL calendar is the same as the western calendar in general use in our world, just back a few thousand years. and on that topic, we're almost at new years! (can we have some fireworks, can we, can we? please?) (looking for fireworks) <2nd addition> maybe clicking the clock should have some combined date/time, as i doubt many people know about the #date command
  4. Remote Heal For The Non-magical

no PK for non combat? not so, you can have a mage duel, or a summon duel, neither require combat skills. taking it a bit too far, even crafters can get in the act with a fist full of damage rings. what's the difference between giving someone a potion in trade before they fight, and using a potion (or scroll, etc) on them during the fight? they need exactly the same amount of magic skill either way... one of the things about multiplayer games is the co-operation, and things like this help promote teams, get a few fighters and a healer together out on the battlefield, backed up by manu-ers and crafters, etc
  5. Simple Solution For An Apparent Problem

expanding on that idea, you could have a fighting channel (including PK), alchemy, crafting, etc... where you can discuss the relevant stuff about your interest in the field
  6. Remote Heal For The Non-magical

hmm... probably just heal the glass wounds, and that's about all. but the idea for use-click a potion (or possibly even other items) on someone would be more like giving them a drink, you wouldn't throw it at them (and yes, scrolls are more beleivable for something like this)
  7. Storylines Discussions

according to forum information, Chariste hasn't been on for about a fortnight, and has had only 1 post since the start of april. don't have any more info to add, though
  8. Good Job Devs!

hear hear! they've done an amazing job in EL, past and present devs (which includes story writers, coders, artists, anything else that's developing EL), helpers in game (NH, mods, etc), the forum mods, and all the players who've helped develop storylines, made suggestions, and just helped other people, helping EL grow Thank You All!
  9. 2 Cent Opinoin

my graphics card drivers only do openGL 1.3, and that's with a newer version... before that i had one less feature used by the game. it certainly doesn't require the latest version of openGL
  10. Bag-jumped By A N00b

I'm not siding with the bag jumpers, far from it, they really annoy me too but i'm against making it harder for people just because of others playing nasty remove the perk? no thanks, I'm poor and i'm at OA 69. I got the perk really early, so that i can go get gems, visit places like portland and morcraven, etc as for taking away MM and making people practice fighting, that's not a good thing, and you shouldn't force people to learn things they don't want to. i have 0 summoning, does that mean i have to practice that? i can't space the PP for nexus. and before you say summoning isn't the same as combat, think about it, you're still forcing someone to learn a skill they don't want to.
  11. several ideas..

i expect that this idea would make the plain rings very much similar to vials... they'd be returned for a bit of cash back or a discount on the next purchase
  12. Bag-jumped By A N00b

so now they'd first have to bagjump someone who had a cape, or had some stuff to sell? no, you're still trying to solve something legal in code, in a way that penalises others, that's not right
  13. Microsoft Anti Spyware

as far as signatures, that's a pattern that's familiar, virus scanners will also look for patterns, tell tale signs, signatures. and google can help you if you wanna know more about the names it comes up with
  14. Quest Proposals

    don't you mean thupah?
  15. I Cannot Make A Character!

from my #glinfo in game OpenGL Version: 1.3.0 - Build etc etc 1.5?
  16. Better Combat system

yeah, that'd be great too 8^) I think i heard something about pathfinding in the client (which could do this)... not sure if it was a 'this would be nice' or a 'this will happen Real Soon Now' though...
  17. Bag-jumped By A N00b

there are people who don't want to fight, and you want penalisation on them in code because of something not nice but legal someone else did. my point stands
  18. Bag-jumped By A N00b

the manu/crat rep on the council (L_c, first one i thought of) who also has 66 alchemy has combat of 27... that's a high level player with under 30. and i'm sure there's a whole lot more. some people aren't here to fight. forcing people to play a way they don't want to is baaaad L_c's stats
  19. Bag-jumped By A N00b

so an alchemist can't go get the emeralds in naralik or diamonds from the diamond mine, or rubies... well... you get the idea. some people just don't wanna fight. and the great thing about this game is that you get MM, and you don't have to. now, maybe if it was a fifth it might work, 10 def from killing rabbits and such for fur and you're safe in VC, for example (where ogre = 50, average of att and def) or if the requirement before you can start getting perks was boosted up, say a skill at 10 first? have to do at least some harvesting first then. this is probably a better solution, as it helps solve the chars for muling, etc thing as well remember, though, that bagjumping may make one an outlaw, it's certaibly not against the rules, and won't be. so punishing non fighters for it won't (shouldn't) happen
  20. the part where a walkthrough means you can just walk through it in a short amount of time. a PP is very valuable, so the quest should be either hard, costly, or long. or all three. interest in this would drop a bit if you had to get a tit serp for whoever and visit 20 places across the continent several times. but eventually people will find leveling hard enough that they'd be willing to do it.
  21. Better Combat system

I know this thread has been dormant a while, but i'm not just bumping it i search the forum before posting my idea, and this one comes up similar, so it's going here I'm not looking for player controled combat, but a bit more variety when the computer fights would be nice. what i'd suggest is there's a number of different attacks, kick, punch, staff, short sword, sword, axe, and any other weapons that will be implemented. each of these can have a location, like low kick, for rabbits, high kick to brain a deer, etc for kicking for a sword, you could have low swing (at the legs), mid swing (body) high swing (neck/head), top swing (down onto head/shoulders), and if it's a short sword, a stab low and stab high option. same would happen for the other attacks. now what type of attack is done would be animated, and also used for trying to defend. there's several types of defend, ignore(i don't care if the rabbit bites me, based on aggressiveness setting), block low, block mid, block high, block top, block front, all using a shield. there's also parry for each of those if you have a weapon (not gloves). and there's dodge for each of those types of strike. hopefully with the new character system (as in, model), you'd be able to animate these options, it'd give more realism and excitement to the game you can, of course, either suceed or fail any of these, except the ignore, which would always work an added option is counter-attack, where you block or parry and strike back right away, or dodge and attack at the same time. even without the player getting more control (except the mentioned pre-set aggressiveness, which goes with another post), this would make the combat more realistic and interesting. you can also add sound effects, parry metal (metal on wood), parry woodmetal (wood on metal), grunt (light injury), yelp, etc etc, for more realism oh, another note on this, when setting up the fight you have to say what types of attack work, eg against a rabbit, only the low strikes and no punch would be available, same for defending and against an ogre or something, unless you're tall (maybe the orcish race is tall enough, dunno) you can't do the top attack i had another thought, multi combat, you'd have to spin for some of these, and maybe not others, so that could be an issue this's a fair bit more work, i know, but i think it'd be worth it, that could be all the pure-fighting combat setup needed(adding some extra stuff like automatic magic and item use could be cool) also, for some more stuff, a suggestion for a new spell, something like zap, if you've ever played quest for glory... basically you can charge your weapon before a fight, and it gives some extra damage on the first hit (you can re-charge it in combat if you want, though magic makes you not able to attack, naturally, and getting hit interupts the casting)
  22. Whats The Best Way To Earn Money?

I get my money from selling things i make, crafting, manufacturing, potions, alchemy, and some stuff from what i kill. picking just one isn't really possible
  23. Remote Heal For The Non-magical

stop being so negative. it also takes stocks of HE, ME, and the sigils, that's not quite so easy to get and instead of picking on the reason for this, why not just talk about the suggestion, ie, scrolls or use-click potions? that's the relevant part
  24. Honour System

looking at a/d/p/c wouldn't be enough, as someone in full plate with a serpent sword could take someone tougher if they're on an errand and not kitted up. you'd have to use the effective stats, using the changed listed in #arm
  25. More Interactive Fighting

Instead of just confidence, you could have a combat style setup a few sliders, one for agressiveness/caution one for when to run (as a percentage of health if it's allowed, one for how much to use magic (yes, this would be automatic, but magic in combat at the moment is hard enough to be not that usable, this would make mages better able to fight) if the combat system were a bit more advanced, then this would work, whether you attack hard, and open yourself to more counter attacks, or only counterattack (very cautious), quite unlikely to get hit, but slow to do damge. of course, the XP you get would heva to be adjusted with this so you can't go cautious and do what's currently flee-fighting
