I voted for asymmetric because this is the way (IIRC) it works in Wii Sports, and I like that point system, and because I like the pros/cons of the asymmetric system more. If I think of a formula later, I will edit my post.

Hello, seems I'm back here yet again. Now ya'll know why I haven't been on in a while Anyway, EL starts for me, but cannot connect to the server. I read in this thread http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34693 that it is probably some program blocking EL. Howerver, I'm running Ubuntu Linux (Edgy Eft), and I do not have any virus protection software nor any firewall. I have disabled GAIM, since that worked for Grogan. The only thing I have running is firefox (to post this) and a terminal window. And yes, I tried closing firefox and then running EL. Edit: And no, EL isn't being blocked by my service provider (MIT). I am really at a loss. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Grum, that's exactly what my telnet says. The telnet doesn't say it can't connect, just the client. While trying to connect, the CPU usage goes up only 0-10%, but mostly there is no change. Once I try to alt-x or close it with the x on the window, the CPU usage goes up like 10-15% and I have to kill -9 it.

Ok, well, maybe it's just a problem with my game/computer. Telnet seems to work, and it takes a very long (5-10 min) to say that it cannot connect. If I click on the client while it's trying to connect, or minimize/maximize it, the client goes completely black, and I have to kill -9 to get rid of it. I was just assuming it was getting frozen because it was trying to connect, but maybe it is something else? Gah, I want to see the penguins! And no, it can't be virus software/firewalls/network. I have no virus software or firewalls, and I have tried this on three very different networks. Plus, I could play on my desktop (which I do not have access to anymore), but not on my laptop. Now that I think about it, this problem has been going on since I installed Ubuntu a few weeks ago.

I'll admit I'm a little conflicted about this issue, so here are my list of pros and cons that I can think of right now. Pros: 1.) Families/legitimate groups of different people can play together without a problem. 2.) I've always had a gut feeling that it should be OK for people to legitimately trade with two accounts of their own. For example, if I had a manufacturing character and my fighting character paid the manu character fair prices. So basically, I would level two characters and treat them as if they were independent. However, I am fully aware that if multiplaying were allowed, this is not how it would be used by a lot, if not the majority, of players. Cons: 1.) What molime said. 2.) I can't help but think that creating alts to get around limitations of one character in a way not consistent with playing two accounts as if they were separate players is somehow cheating. I really fear that this will lead to a community like thatothergame. 3.) I'd hate to see EL turn into a game where "grinding" is standard gameplay. Okay, I guess cons 2 and 3 are basically the same as 1, but I just wanted to expand a little. Yeah, this change would relieve pressure and duties on mods etc, but...well...I just am really afraid that it will change EL for the worst. I could be wrong. It might turn out fine. But I just have a feeling that the type of people I have always been glad don't play EL will start playing. I am worried that it will change EL's wonderful community for the worst. So I voted no.

Just because you can do something, doesn't necessarily mean you should do it. Like others said, the Outlaws forum is to warn other players of people who break the *community* rules. If you don't want to be posted there, don't do anything that would make someone want to post you there. Yes, being posted in Outlaws causes other players to look down on you...but that's the whole point.

I can only get it to compile on one computer, which currently can't handle EL for some crazygonuts reason, and I am not willing to allocate time to look into why until Thursday night. They look cool. They help the game because you have to pay for them. There is a minor PK advantage because there are currently no fighting books for p2p races, so no one gets the +5 a/d advantage that books give. But mostly they look cool and give you an excuse to donate to the game

I still have to log in to see the effects of my LOD settings. I have tested it so far in the C1 portals room and around a WSC fountain. I've been playing with the eye candy settings because the eyecandy kills my FPS. I have found a good combo of settings that gives me 19-23 FPS in the tele room, which is a drastic improvement from what I had before (like 1-9). However, there is one problem that happens. When I teleport to the tele room, it seems to ignore my eye candy settings. All the "beams" are in full detail, so my FPS is very low (7-9). Once I relog *in* the tele room, the settings take effect, and the LOD drops. Also, changing the settings while in the tele room *only* has an effect if I have already relogged while in the tele room. I tested this several times, and it was the same effect every time. I have to relog inside the tele room to get the settings to take effect. Here are my system specs: Windows XP, RC client Nvidia GeForce 4 OpenGL version 1.5.7 Pentium 4, 2.67 GHz 512 MB Ram 46 GB hard drive Here are the eye candy settings I have now: Max framerate: 45 Min framerate: 20 Light column threshhold: 15 Hope this is useful
