  1. § Can you cry under water?

Yes, but you won't be able to see it.

§ Since bread is square, then why is sandwich meat round?

Because you buy the wrong kind? I always use square meat.

§ Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

Because a round box is way too hard to make.

§ If you drink Pepsi at work in the Coke factory, will they fire you?

    Very likely.

§ If a 911 operator has a heart attack, whom does he/she call?

There are more than one 911 operator working. Someone needs to be able to answer the phone when he/shee goes to the bathroom.

§ Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer?

Because your freezer was too cheap to put in a light. My parents freezer does have a light.

§ If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

    It would ruin the show.

§ Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

Goofy was meant to be a rat, not a dog.

  2. I don't like the idea. We already have the afk message when you mention a name next to that afk person or when you pm her/him.

Do you have reasons for not liking the idea, except that *you* don't need it? Like, any bad things about it? Do you see any reasons why it shouldn't be done, even if others like the idea?

What I'm trying to find out here is whether your "don't like it" should be more like "don't care" or "no way".

  3. Cd

You can't run EL from a CD (yet), since it tries to create chat and server logs in the directory from which you run. Well, perhaps it'd work on a Unix system.

It should. I have had /usr/local/games/eternal-lands readonly ever since ~/.elc got implemented.

  4. No, it is a bug in your guild's forums. A very high level of bullshit was detected, and our poor forums can't handle that.

Well, seems there is lot of things that this forum can't handle, it can't even display old threads as read, even when we've read them plenty of times and posts disappear all the time, even answers to direct questions from mods. Good thing EL.com page works better then, maybe you should hire the same people to fix your forum...

  5. I didn't before you asked. I did now, and it works wih nedit 5.5, which opens the files in separate tabs.

Tabs? Oh, nedit is a graphical editor? Then it doesn't use stdin  That's why it works. It wouldn't work with vi or other tty editor (unless the author played tricks with reopening /dev/tty).

    Am I being stupid?

    Looks like you're missing OpenAL

  6. Resolving the hostname is only done once - before connecting. There's no way it could cause a ping between 2 and 29 seconds.

(At least not as long as EL uses TCP. A sufficiently creative programmer would be able to make it affect the ping with UDP, by doing a DNS lookup for every packet, instead of saving the reply).

  7. Reminds me of a story in an english textbook back in school. A man get's pulled over by a cop in the UK.

    Man: Yes?

Officer: You're driving on the right side of the road.

Man: Of course I am, do you want me to drive on the wrong side of the road?

Officer: You ARE driving on the wrong side of the road.

Man: But, you just said I'm driving on the right side of the road.

Officer: Yes, right is wrong and left is right.

    Man: :rolleyes::o:unsure::o:unsure:

Actually, I don't remember the last line, I don't think there were smilies in textbooks :D

  8. Also, IP is packed as it is - it should be moved to a place where players who have the knowledge of how to use their pickpoints can go in peace, away from the clutter of IP.

At the top of a mountain, inside a volcano, or at the top of an ancient temple are some good (mysterious) places for him to go.

Interesting idea, why don't we have a map with a volcano? One where you can walk up a small path all the way to the top and then an even smaller path down inside, and lava at the bottom?

This "add quote" thing is kinda cool :o

  9. Couldn't the same argument be made for having the top 50 list in the first place?

Well, no. Because the top50 is running on its own server, so the only bragging is done by the people who visit it.

"no"? Sounds like a misunderstanding somewhere... Adding guild tags to the top 50 list would be allow exactly the same people to brag about it as the top 50 list itself, and the extra network traffic would affect the same server as the rest of the top 50 list. Sure the list would be a bit larger download, but it's less than 10% (4 letters, compared to peoples names), and that's without counting the HTML tags.

It should be easy to make, as all the work to make the top 50 list is already done, it's just a question of adding the tag along with the name. About one line of code.

  10. 1. This would be like some kind of auto-hunting? Click the animal and wait for your char to catch it... No challenge in that either, and that's just about the only challenge in this game, at least until you get to PK. But next people will probably suggest auto body-restore and auto restore spell for PK too.

    2. That would be like things were before someone made the cursor height sensitive - partially at least, I guess you still want the height part for walking around in places were the ground is not at zero.

  11. I don't get the point of people saying that newbies need to be able to find him. Newbies shouldn't be wasting pickpoints before they know what they want to use them for. They will start by harvesting and killing rabbits, rats and beavers. You don't need any nexus for that. You can use an iron sword without a human nexus, and inorganic won't be needed until you start harvesting quartz. Pumping up physique and coordination shouldn't be what a newbie starts with, and as for perks, the positive ones cost a lot and once you start to need nexuses you'll run out of pickpoints soon enough without spending them on perks. The negative perks require lots of knowledge about the game, to avoid needing to #reset later.

I'd say move him, let Isla Prima be the newbie-friendly island and move the wraith to somewhere that isn't used very much yet. Although I wouldn't suggest inside a town, he seems to be the kind of thing you would meet on a mountain or deep in the forest.

Getting him away from #beam me up would also cut down the use of that command (which should have been removed over a year ago).
