  1. crash in free_md2()

I'm still wondering why anyone would buy a nVidia card. Especially for a linux machine.
  2. The Pope

I am not talking about whether he did good things or not. The guy was a catholic, he believed in god, he is now with god. He's happy, those who care should be happy for him.
  3. The Pope

I don't get this. Why are people sad about this? If you're a true catholic - or any other christian believer The pope is on his way to meet god. The guy probably looked forward to this all his life, and he is finally getting his wish fulfilled. A bit like when a Britney Spears fan get's to meet his/her idol, just much bigger. The pope is happy, you should be happy for him, not sad. If you don't believe in god (believers are not adviced to read this part). There is no god. The pope is just an old guy in a funny hat. An old guy died, just like millions of other old guys you don't know. You aren't related to him, he is not your friend, he's just a guy who was on TV a bit too often because of a hoax involving a man on a cross a few thousand years ago. There's nothing to be sad about.
  4. Scammers of Gamble Bot

Wrong terminology here, you don't scam a bug, you abuse a bug. Scamming involves fooling someone into believing something that is not true, for a gain. (e.g. fooling a n00b into believing that there are free swords in KF). Bots don't believe, bugs don't believe.
  5. Fear this!

The last I heard about this is that the arctic is the one that's likely to melt, and it's floating, meaning that it wil not change the sea levels at all. The antarctic is much colder, around -60C, and if the temperature rises that much, we'll have much worse to worry about. Like, a large part of the earth would have temperatures above 100C, the boiling point of water (human consists of 90% water). On second thought, temperatures like that would cause the water in the oceans to vaporize, lowering the see levels, possibly evening out the rise in see levels caused by the ice melting. Don't worry about the ice melting. Worry about the heat necessary to do it instead.
  6. So has anyone seen "Sin City" yet?

    You misspelled Sim City
  7. listen to me.

It's not easy. I was trying to play both games, but just about every time I posted on EL forums, some people replied with "You're playing Planeshift now, why are you still here?" - it seems to me that there is a feeling that you are only allowed to play one game (or possibly one MMORPG), and have to leave EL when you start playing Planeshift. Only after posting the "how many games do you play" poll, and showing than over half the people who voted play more than one game, did they stop telling me to go away because I play other games. And that's for me who never wanted to leave EL, so I can understand that people think that they won't play EL again when they start playing Planeshift.
  8. daylight saving time

I have one radio-controlled clock, it was the last clock to change, because I can't force it to (well, I could pull out the battery). I had finished changing everything else before noon I think, but the radio-controlled one took a couple of hours more. Faster than expected though, I was guessing that it would be about a day late.
  9. cash for gc

1 gc for 1 dollar. Acceptable, Daxon?
  10. How do bags disappear?

Doesn't matter, noone counts them anyway
  11. Old times

Then which one was purple? And how do I move my vote
  12. 1. bug walks on the edge of coffee mug. 2. bug trips and falls into coffee 3. programmer drinks coffee
  13. daylight saving time

That was a week ago. Or is the US behind in this regard?
  14. Old times

Alchemy - purple, fits my clothes
  15. Bigger creatures

Theoretically, the problem is not that hard, the animals would just have to take up more squares. The main problem is that this would add a lot more processing on the server, since it not only has to mark all those tiles as occupied, but also check if they are all free, before moving or even rotating. And then there's some problems with how to rotate the group of tiles 45 degrees, if a horse takes two tiles 100,100 and 100,101 when facing north, which tiles would it take when facing north east? Remember the map editor manual here, we wouldn't want anyone to be able to walk diagonally through the horse
  16. Bigger creatures

It would have to fly high enough that it's over the trees and houses, so it doesn't fly through a tree. And how do you attack a flying dragon with your sword?
  17. How do bags disappear?

One more thing though: There are two things that make bags disappear. When it's been 12 minutes since something was put into them, or when the number of bags in a map get higher than 100 (200?). Which means that there is no guaranteed way to make a bag not disappear. If you don't want to lose it, don't put it on the ground. Your inventory and storage are the safe places.
  18. Bot

Unless you get permission directly from Entropy or Roja, yes. But I don't think you are going to, if they wanted the fruit in the harvest area, they would have put it there in the first place, or just not made the food level requirement. It's kind of cheating, although it doesn't seem to be for your own interest only, but for everyone, but still, the developers worked to make harvesting not quite as easy by requiring food, and a bot like that would ruin that.
  19. Question

I had read a lot about MMORPGs like Ultima Online and Everquest, and as I am not very social IRL, I thought that would be an interesting way to meet some new people. But the money factor was something that kept me away, especially since lots of people claimed to have become addicted to MMORPGs. At some point I tried a search for "MMORPG" on happypenguin, and found one game that seemed to be what I was looking for - EL. Nowadays I only play to be with the friends that I did meet, the levelling up part of most MMORPGs is just so boooring. I'm still looking for an MMORPG without that part. Back when I joined EL didn't have the boring leveling up stuff, and I think I actually liked it better back then.
  20. Bigger creatures

I wouldn't say a square, but a circle / eitght sided regular polygon (octagon? ). If a big square animal walked towards a wall untill it can go no further, it wouldn't be able to turn 45 degrees. The worst would be a H or U shaped animal (head upwards), which would need only a single tree to get stuck. But, it depends on how actors turn (one thing I didn't check yet). If they turn 0-45-90-135-180 to make a U-turn, we need to be very carefull. If they do the shortcut 0-180, we have a lot more freedom, basically we just need to make sure that the tail is not longer than the head If he can turn 180 degrees, he should be able to go back the way he came. As for the efficiency, that's just about the only thing I was worried about, especially in the path finding function. But I never studied good path-finding algorithms, and I don't even know how the one works the server uses, so I'm not sure how bad it would be. But, all that will be for Mihaim or whoever he accepts for working on the server to worry about.
  21. Testing The Map

did you ever use the mapeditor? I doubt that. I did, and that's how it worked when I used it. My creativity didn't fulfill my own requirements though, so I never showed anyone the result.
  22. No. No matter how crappy SDL may be on Windows, it doesn't just magically know which keypresses Windows never should have sent to it. I disagree. Try reading it again... Do you still disagree? EL is NOT magic. Windows is supposed to NOT tell EL which keys you press in other programs, and so it can't know it unless Windows screws up and tells EL so anyway.
  23. Religion

    None of the above.
  24. It WAS explained clearly enough. People just need to learn to read.
  25. EL too dark?

No, my contrast and brightness are set correctly, and I have no problems with too light or too dark in any game or program, EL included. Making EL brighter could be fixed by turning down my brightness and contrast when I start EL, and turning them back to normal when I exit it, but why should people with working screens have to do that just because one person has a broken screen?
