I guess everybody knows I advocate advertising on the main server and do as much as I think appropriate when I'm there. Bringing up PK and getting a conversation going about it, then a general invitation every half-hour or so. I also have tried to push the idea of main server contests in which the prize is a free PK account paid for by one of us. Me anyway, since I came up with the idea... at least once. It's only $5... *sniff* One more thing I hate to bring up because it would create a 'Rule Number Four'. I am out front shouting about the fewer rules the better when the subject comes up, but let me try this on you all: If we want more players to join the PK Server, we have to make them feel welcome. I suggest a 'Newbie Limit' for random attacking. Basically the idea is don't PK newbs until they are comfortable here and learn their way around. How to judge a "newb" is the hard part. I was thinking because the only statistic we can learn from others is the material points (health level.) Maybe no attacking new players with a health level under a certain number? 50, 60, 70? Of course these numbers could pertain to players who have just reset, they could be included or not (I vote not.) Got suggestions? Anyway, the idea is a rule to allow new players on the server a time or level period to get used to being here, learning about us and guilds, differences from main, find places to hide, whatever. Killing players fresh off the island is pointless anyway. They carry nothing valuable, PK points probably don't mean much (I don't know the system,) and it risks scaring them away. As it is, we have a player now who is highly respected in the forums, among the devs and mods and on the main server who has been slaughtered as a newb a number of times. I won't state a name because I had not asked permission to do so, and the player doesn't talk on channels as far as I know. Still, it is someone who would be a good advocate for the server if a little PK honor and respect was made visible. I hope this makes sense! It's not targeted to any players, just an idea to build the community... so... bring on the comments!

Just noticed this thread... Thanks, Entropy! Occasional contests would help a great deal to bring more players to PK. I'm not a very good PK'er myself, but still have a great time on the server. I also have a version of Piggy on Main who comes to visit old friends and gives a few reminders about the PK Server on Channel 4. I'm happy to discuss how we play there, and what the differences are.

I voted but didn't comment, now I think I should. I voted to drop the bot, but more specifically to remove BroD. BoD is still up in the air with me. There is a valid argument to keep BroD on the server in that the Cape of Unbreakable exists, and we are here to bust each other up in the first place. I would be happy with that but for the fact that the BroD directly affects armor and high level armor is rare here compared to Main. We can't by it from the store, and I still don't think we should be able to. Thus, BroD can destroy some particularly valuable items. As far as the Bone goes if I got hit with one at 150 damage, then two of me would die at my level now! This isn't too big an issue since I die from just about anyones attack. Anyone strong enough to weild high level weapons, anyway. Up to this point in EL I have always fought only carrying items I can make myself and don't attack critters I know will destroy me easily. I've only carried a rosto once when I found it as a n00b, and have only seen one other (on Main.) So... BoD can go or stay. Tanta, and the other stuff she sells can stay, I don't think that is the issue. Eventually everyone will have a CoL no matter what. It just seem the Branch of Destruction has become a Bone of Contention I'd be fine with refunds to those whose have bought them, and everything else being water under the bridge.

My vote included one bot per continent per 'owner' for the time being (hundreds of new players will bring a different condition.) Trade bots should remain in safe places if not near storages. I believe we should discuss a limit to items being sold by bots: All tools and enhanced items should be available, extreme weapons, armor and rostogols, maybe not. I'm sure Entropy would like to be the sole seller of rostos other than player to player! Anyway, Bones and Branches of Kill Everybody and Crowns of Protect Me From Everybody should be only items that newbs dream of on Christmas eve.... We should be able to challenge each other with nothing more than stats, fists, and bravado! Hiya!!! Punky White Fool!!! I am the other white meat ye shall phear!!!! Um... after I finish dinner.... Ads on #3 are fine with me, 15 minute or half-hour, whichever. I'd also like to see bots out in the open near storages so they aren't used as 'drop sinks' for guilds to deposit harvests while avoiding PK. And please! Don't name them after Kings of Gods! Sheesh, Odin is standing out in the cold begging people to buy from his box full of apples and pencils! Pathetic, I tell ya!

Great contests! I actually caught sight of ReMuS once but lost him in the dark... better than I normally do! It was good to see so many players on at once, I shut down my alts for better performance with just one client. A few more books and levels and I'll be able to contribute some prizes for upcoming events (Kaldoon too!)

Great one! Left me exhausted, lol! Finally got my graphics program, printer, and scanner all working.... now I just have to remember to save screenies! Next time for sure!

Ditto from me, and many a more!

He's stunning! Where did you find a picture of me to base him on I wonder?

A typical porcine hour: Start harv'ing mullein. Check forums. Stung by bee. Add mindless post about trade bots. Check email. Make coffee. Bellow nonsense on channel #1 Yell at stupid bee. Next hour: Attempt to harvest 14 more mullein without stopping....

It will probably be a good while before we see a crowd of sales bots on PK. I don't see a problem with ads on #3, particularly now that we can #ignore the bots. I just have one alt monitoring #3 anyway. Early on while PK was still being invented, there was talk about sales bots with limits as to what they would be able to sell. For instance no weapons, tools and harvestables only, no modable or enriched items, no stones, etc. I just wanted to bring that up, but I'm not smart enough to decide what difference such options would make... For the few players we now have, I would think a limit of one bot per continent per guild (or non-guild player) should be enough for now. An example would be: Piggy has Razorback bot in Idaloran and Wilbur bot in WSC, his alts cannot have their own (don't know how to enforce that, though.) Meanwhile, W@LF guild has BigBad W@LF in Irsis and Howlin W@LF in Portland. Too many bots per guild would be used as mutual storages for alts and guildies making it too easy to safely deposit items that could be lost in battle! With this in mind, maybe it would be best to have the bots ONLY close to storages and ONLY in safe areas. This last point might have more effect on the server than all others since the more bots a player/guild has, the easier it will be for them to hide and organize collected goods. For me, sales bots are great to have in general. There's no hunting for buyers/sellers and no haggling over prices. Tauren made a good point that works for me too, here:

Oink! On main: Mugwump, Komiyan, Piggy (a clone for PK server promotion,) a fistful of others that never check in... On PK: Piggy, Gramps, Grandmama, Hawg, Javelina, maybe one more upcoming. Guilds: Mugwump is one and only member of R@SE, the Piggy family is it's own private enterprise! Welcome to all newcomers and visitors!!

Yes for me.

Yikes! Well at least this thread didn't completely go off the track! My original goal with starting it was to encourage people on the server to attract more players and make the server more welcoming. I don't get the elitist description other than most players on the PK Server are fairly experienced with EL. That would make sense for anyone signing up, but I think that must of us would welcome and gladly help brand new EL'ers. It just seems that trying the game for free to start makes more sense than spending $5 on the unknown. I may be wrong, but there may more older players on average in PK. I'm sure I must be the least elite player on any server anywhere except for maybe RuinScrape... The idea of a free 'trial period' is a good one and might be effective, but I think we already got a no from Radu on that one.

I want a rapier, but I have to get my Musketeer outfit first! Or is that Swinesketeer?

I'm willing to accept it. The forum category here is plenty for our needs so far, but I'm sure we can find a lot to discuss that would be pointless for the whole EL community to sift through. My one concern is that the rest of EL doesn't think we are hiding anything from them. There have been complaints about the existence of a PK server right from the start, and everyone should be made welcome. Maybe for your forum the one requirement would be a PK account to post messages but readable by anyone?

That's a handy item, LabRat, thanks! Does it have a mate for the PK Server?

I have a pile of alt characters so as to play EL in different ways. Mugwump is my main man on the main server and he is more of a manu and craft type, but may do some naked punch festing for fun. Piggy is my main PK Server char and is a lousy PK'er but never carries valuable stuff so I don't mind dying. I have Komiyan on main who is based on a web comic character and fights for the evil god Mephistopheles, but is pretty lazy... still training. Other alts on PK server are for harvesting, potioning, etc. and then there's Hawg who can't even master speech. He is training to be my mighty goon of destruction, if only he would stay out of the tailoring shop... No reason not to PK, it's all for fun. No reason not to try everything EL has to offer! Start some alts, join the PK server where you can have more than one alt online at a time! No cooldown, too. The only complaint we have on the PK server is not yet enough players to compete in challenges and contests or just to chase around... of course I don't mind, I always end up as pork chops!

You have read 51 of 337 books shown However, that is on the PK server. It's kind of hard to read while you are running away all the time!

I have no clue, but the photo is fascinating! Must be a good film!

Come on over to the PK Server! The water's fine!

I've heard of Cuil through a few radio news reports, maybe I'll take a look. With 2 godzillion petabonks of info on the web, any search engine gets results here in the future so what's the difference. Something new and different is fun to play with regardless. I have a Gmail account and use Googoo as my home page with calender, weather, headlines, etc. Much less 'busy' than Yahoo which I like, and no ads at all. With a little research and concentration a lot can be gotten from using Goofle features, apparently the Gmail server space each account gets can be converted to file storage space as well. When it comes to privacy I have a radical opinion. Give them every detail! In my case, steal my identity. Please! You'll be getting all kinds collection notices and prison threats left and right... don't even think about credit! Seriously, if we all overdose worldwide data banks with useless trivia beyond measure, the servers may not fill up but the software won't be able to glean any reliable statistics. "Too much information" is a phrase that will explain the overload in every data collection agency from ad marketing to secret service agencies everywhere!

Data Directory, multiple client folders, and auto name/password entry
Piggy posted a topic in Help Me
I have four separate characters (alts) on the PK server where it is permitted to control more than one at a time (not on Main server!) Each name runs from its own client, all four on my main (C:) drive courtesy of WinXP. My goal was to maintain a completely separate data directory for each to keep the counters and quest logs specific to each name. I also would like to be able to use the auto name and password input on the log on screen for each (this used to work a few updates ago.) This option is only available from within the el.ini file. I tried to set paths for each data dir to each client folder but I don't see any evidence of it there plus anything I set in el.ini doesn't take. Should I create a folder in the My Docs folder exclusive to each client folder with the same name and how would I direct that? Found a few glancing posts here but not directly with my multiple client situation... is there a way to keep all data separate for each or should I just let it be and type in the passwords! Thankee! -
Data Directory, multiple client folders, and auto name/password entry

Blessed be the programmers! Thanks Mar© I think I got it, at least the logic makes sense.... if I screw it up you'll see another post! Thanks again, Piggy -
Paul has a point when it comes to keeping name changes private. We already have confusion over familiar names having been traded to unfamiliar people, and some don't like to say which alts are theirs. Others like myself consider their alts to be one big happy family and would rather everyone knew who's who. As far as scamming goes, in PK we have to trust or not anyway so it's just a matter of relying on judgment of character. That seems to be working fine as things are with few complaints and accusations. It's similar to the reason we don't attack each other every time we meet. It's not productive to leveling and I always get pwned . I'm sure name/color/race changes are the same as main but the EL Store says Learner takes care of these features so a PM here or on the Main should answer that. Um, if he doesn't answer this thread! Hmm.... maybe I should change "Piggy" to "Chunk Manly PhD".......
