  1. It’s hard to tell exactly what went wrong from the log file you provided (Bluap is the man when it comes to stuff like that :P) but my guess would be Raz and Esteria are probably correct re: something in your config becoming corrupted.

IMO the most likely scenario is that your Mac performed a software update while you were in sleep mode (that’s the default behaviour, anyway) and the act of closing all three EL windows simultaneously caused them to write to the same config files at exactly the same time, resulting in some kind of unexpected behaviour.

re next steps: my advice is the same as what Raz just suggested. Don’t copy over the main config file as that’s likely the culprit here, but the character-specific JSON files (counters, spells, etc) should be fine as they are only loaded when the character is logged in, making it very unlikely they were causing your client to crash and burn on launch :)

  2. Hi Caladina,

    Please try the following:

    1. Browse to the “~/Library/Application Support/” folder. You can do this via the command+space spotlight search, just enter what is between the quotes.

    2. Within that folder, and with no EL windows open, rename the “Eternal Lands” folder to something else. Do not delete it, or you might lose counters or other important stuff you might want to keep.

    3. Try opening an EL window and let me know what happens. The settings will all be back to default, but that is as expected for now.

  3. Hi Tempsds,

Those TTF errors you are seeing are normal, it just means those particular system fonts don't contain all of the necessary symbols which would be required for it to be used in the game client. Pretty much every platform we support has at least a couple of fonts like that; the errors are harmless and won't be the cause of your client crash.

If you're still interested in trying to get things going, could you please follow the steps below:

    1. Browse to your (My) Documents folder, in which there should be a folder named "Eternal Lands"
    2. Rename the "Eternal Lands" folder to something else ("EL Backup" would work)
    3. Launch the game and see what happens, note that a new "Eternal Lands" folder will be automatically created

If the game still isn't working as expected at this point, please do the following:

    1. Browse to the newly created "Eternal Lands" folder
    2. Within this you will find a "log" folder containing a bunch of random .log files
    3. Upload the FULL contents of main_*.log to pastebin, or paste it in your response here

  4. Hi Caladina,

Did you copy any of your old EL config files when you moved over to your new Mac? A lot has changed in the years since the last Odie client, and I always recommend Mac folks work from the client-generated config file when switching to my newer build.

Aside from that, the behaviour you mention also commonly occurs with folks who use multiple clients (on any platform). If you fall into that group I suggest making (and saving) the config changes when you only have a single client open, or ensuring that the client you make the config changes in is the last client to be closed when you're done playing - that'll prevent your new settings from being overwritten by your old ones :)

  5. Unfortunately 10.14 is the earliest macOS version my builds support. I chose 10.14 as it is the earliest we can target without causing annoying compromises for those running newer versions. 10.14 was also the final macOS to support 32-bit apps, and it seemed like a happy medium between "old" and "new" whereby those used to their older apps would not be left in a position where they had to choose between modern EL and access to those older apps.

For a bit of context, 10.14 was released in 2018 and is compatible with nearly any Mac released from 2012 onwards (including a 2015 MBP!). If you drop me a forum PM I'll be happy to discuss the barriers which are preventing you from upgrading. It seems a shame to be stuck on 10.11 (which Apple considers EOL) when you have the ability to run the latest and greatest :)

I've never better understood how literally every single volunteer developer (short of bluap now) was driven away, giving up hope on doing anything.

I don't care for the rest of the complaining, but this is wholly incorrect. Our most recent release (1.9.5p9) had six unique code contributors, and numerous client testers who provided valuable feedback and bug reports.

Client development has never been healthier. :)

I think warzard means console mode, not "game view". In console mode, I have the

text extend to the bottom of the screen minus one line or so.

Iirc, the edit line used to be open all the time at a height of one text line. Since the ttf

fonts were introduced, it is collapsed to a few pixels when there's no text in it :

and when you start typeing it expands to the line height needed, shifting the whole

history text up by about a line:

You are right, Revi, the text input behaviour has changed a little since p8. :)

I highlighted this during testing, and it turns out it is an intentional change. The text input area can now expand multiple lines (useful for folks playing with a smaller window/larger font setting).

  8. Those errors seem to be normal for folks running a client with JSON capability for the first time (certain files don't exist yet). The client_state file seems to be created when a JSON capable client is first closed, and testing here without the client_state file isn't causing any crashing (but I do see the same errors as you, as expected).

If you put a space in you new password, the actual new password will be the bit before the space I suspect.

I have just put this to the test, and I can confirm that your suspicion appears to be correct. Useful info for those who might stumble across this in future :)

LenSon, as bluap suggested, can you try logging in using ONLY the part of the new pass that was before the space?

there are the 4 indicator bars on the bottom frame of the screen , mana, food, health, emu and optional action points,

would it be possible to have a way to re order them .

at the moment the only option is to either show or not show action point bar with right click,

if we had the option to 'add bar' or 'remove bar' on those same way we can add or remove the skill bars from the bottom display then we could re order them.

if its just me asking then i guess not, depends it others would want it, i would prefer to have the food bar as far to the right side of the screen as possible so its on the same side as the important stuff.

A hide and show option alone wouldn't make it possible to re-order those bars, as they'd still display in their pre-determined order when enabled (like elements on the side bar). This is just my view, but I would also suggest that things like health, mana, carry capacity and food level are important base functions of the game and should never have an option to disable them in the UI entirely.

  11. What if I am running a version of macOS older than 10.14 Mojave?

If you've been holding out for a version of Eternal Lands which fully supports modern versions of macOS, it is now safe to upgrade. If you can’t (or don’t want to) update to a newer version of macOS, you may have luck with one of Sir_Odie’s older Mac builds which are available here. These builds are not recommended for users with modern versions of macOS due to missing features and incompatibility with newer GateKeeper requirements.

  12. How do I install custom maps?

As of version 1.9.5p8, the macOS client includes the minimal BurnedMaps pack by default, eliminating the need to install it separately. If you'd prefer to use an alternative (such as the full BurnedMaps pack) you may install them at the following path:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Eternal Lands/updates/1_9_5/maps/<the .dds files go here>

Warning: this feature is not officially supported. Mods are not obligated to help if you submit a #help_me request.

  13. How do I access other servers?

If you'd like to join one of the alternative Eternal Lands servers, there are two methods available:

    Using the Launcher:

Click on the button for the alternative server you'd like to join.

    .

    large.LauncherOS.png.d17c7645dd41524e91fb824284fba817.png

    Using the terminal:

Warning: only attempt this if you know what you're doing.

open -na 'eternal lands' --args test

  14. How do I open more than one game client?

If you'd like to open more than one game client for the main server, there are two methods available:

    Using the Launcher:

Click on the Main Server button.

    large.LauncherMW.png.1d4b00e116e1971e95d117cc8dcbaae1.png

    Using the terminal:

Warning: only attempt this if you know what you're doing.

    open -na 'eternal lands'

  15. My FPS is lower/My Mac is noisier/How do I disable High Resolution mode?

If you’re running an older or lower-end Mac and have noticed reduced performance or increased fan noise, you may want to try disabling High Resolution mode:

If you open the game via the Launcher:

Untick the Enable High Resolution option.

    large.LauncherHR.png.826e6eb08882c1d8cc6612987a51925b.png

Opening the game via the launcher ignores the "Open in Low Resolution" setting within the Eternal Lands app's get info window (see below).

If you open the game via the Eternal Lands app:

Navigate to the app in finder and right click on it > Select Get Info > Tick Open in Low Resolution.

    large.OpenLR.png.e251851f66baf85899dc11d1af4b8127.png

High Resolution mode will remain permanently disabled when opening the game via the app until you untick Open in Low Resolution again.

  16. Thank you for the feedback guys, both here and in-game. :)

There'll be a new build (1.9.5p8) likely coming in the next few days with bug fixes from Bluap for some minor HighDPI bugs and the alt+s = ß issue. The next release will also include Burn's minimal map pack by default (thanks, Burn!), and I have been working on a small launcher app to make it easier for Mac users to run multiple clients/access other servers.

Since the new MacOS its like jumping through a lot of hoops to get an unsigned Program running. People get several times Warnings that its unsafe to do so, and the buttons for continued running are hidden. To discourage people without deeper knowledge of an Operating System to not start it.

Exactly. Until 10.14 Mojave it was considered best practice to have an app distributed outside the App Store signed and notarised by Apple, and users would receive a dismissible warning when opening the app. As of 10.15 Catalina, the only way to run a non-notarised app is to completely disable various system protections first (bad idea), which makes it necessary for those apps to now be signed and notarised in order to run :)

  18. Introducing the Eternal Lands client for the Mac!

The client is compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave and onwards, and, as of 1.9.5p9, is built as a universal binary to provide native support for both Intel (x86-64) and Apple Silicon (ARM64) Macs.

The client also supports High Resolution mode for Mac users with modern displays. High Resolution mode is automatically detected and enabled for systems which support it, but it does use slightly more resources. If you’d rather forego the beautiful crispness in favour of performance, you can disable High Resolution mode via the method described here.

Moving forwards, updated macOS client builds will be made available with each official client release - keep an eye on the general chat forum or this thread for future updates.

Big thank you to Bluap and Grum for all the hard work they do to bring us new features - you guys rock!

Non-mac-specific issues should be directed to either #help_me or the appropriate sub-forums as usual. :)

  20. Hello pk_hitman,

It won't be long now that 1.9.5p4 has been released for Windows and Linux users.

There have been a few issues with code signing (this is now required by Apple for an app to run cleanly without user intervention) as I do not have a developer account, but I'll be looking to get this resolved in the coming week.

  21. Hello Maxine,

As of macOS 10.15 (Catalina) Apple has ended support for 32-bit apps, which is why the game has stopped working for you.

The good news is that this is an issue we saw coming, and for the last few weeks I have been successfully testing a working 64-bit build of the macOS client.

I am currently on the move, but I’d be happy to share the current test client with you when I am next available. :)

  22. Resolution issue is fixed, thanks to some genius-level thinking from Revi.

It turns out there was a slight change in the way 10.15 handles lower resolution apps and this needed to be specified explicitly in the info.plist file:

    NSHighResolutionCapable = NO

Pending more testing, we provisionally have a working 64-bit client compatible with the upcoming version of macOS :)
