Revised October 26, 2021

Invances are team events. The entire point is to clear the map within a time limit. If you enter, you *must* help the team win.

 No sabotaging other players.

Gatekeeper must never go AFK and must allow people through the gate.

No AFKing for *any* reason, anywhere. No leaving the map (with the exception of a quick restock) for any reason and then come back near the end just for the experience. If you must AFK, you must exit the invance and not return.

This is not an event to farm bosses, serp other players, train a/d, stand around at the gate while others do the work, or go AFK.

If you bring more than one character, all characters need to be actively fighting at all times.

Do not show up just for the bosses or run over to the boss spawns to wait for them before it even starts.

If you do not get experience (undercappers or maxed 178ers), you cannot go and cherry pick what mobs you want then leave.

You must go in good gear - "good" will depend on the range and will be more flexible for the lower ranges. You are not helping the team if you show up in leathers/augs, iron swords, and training arrows, no matter how high your stats are.

If you go *only* as an archer and will not do melee, you must have reasonably high AP, must not use training arrows, and must come down from the walls and continue to range in the field when those mobs are gone. Plan to shoot approximately 300 arrows (or 200 with Ethereal Ranger perk/bow).

Observers are allowed but you must not clutter the channel with chat, are not allowed to cherry pick mobs to kill, and are not allowed to pick up bags. You must not get in the way or inconvenience those who fight. This also applies to alts of team members who are not in range.

If you see someone breaking these rules, report them via the #abuse command immediately while the invance is still going on. It's difficult to check it out if you report it two days later.

**Lower ranges (40-60 and 60-80) do not have the archery and gear requirements.

**Breaking these rules can result in you being banned from invances.

Ok, after having capped invasions for over a month without any rules, it's time to change a few things, in order to make it fair and fun for everyone.

From today on, people over the cap are only allowed to WATCH them. They are not allowed to interfere in any way, such as healing players, blocking resources/paths, taking bags, casting spells that would affect players, monsters or summons, or anything that would help or sabotage those fighting in the invasion. Giving advice is OK, but nothing more.

Help Channel(s) rules:

Starting immediately, the help channel structure as you knew it will be slightly changed.

From now on, jc 1 will be newbie help ONLY. For more advanced help you go to jc 2.

This will be strictly enforced. Anybody persisting in asking non-newbie questions or chatting about non-newbie stuff, after being asked to stop or move to jc 2, will be denoobed.

People choosing to stay to help the newbies are expected to follow these guidelines as well.

Please remember these are HELP channels, not chat/soapbox channels.

Guidelines for jc 1:

--Questions about animals (monsters directed to jc 2)

--Seridia (c1) questions. (Most Irillion c2 questions directed to jc 2, however low level subjects such as skunks and racoons are allowed in jc 1)

--In general, questions relating to levels less than 20

As always, ingame secrets are not to be discussed in either channel. I may add to this as I think of other things that come up that might be unclear. Check back if in doubt.

Edit: Apparently it is necessary to clarify that we deal in Eternal Lands help, not other-game or real life help.

Market Channel rules:

Hey folks

Lately we've had a bit of trouble with the market channel and this seems to be a good time to refresh you all on the etiquette required for it. Market channel is to be run cleanly and professionally, a give and take of information easily seen and uncluttered by chatter and off-topic stuff.

Allowed in market:

1. Buying/selling ingame items

2. Buying/selling ingame services*

3. Price checks

4. Lotteries

*services can include, but are not limited to:

--hauling/muling harvestables for other players

--pk services

--bounties, with the following rule: NO NAMES ALLOWED TO BE MENTIONED.

--Automated announcements need to be a minimum of 15 minutes apart.

--URL links need to be a minimum of 15 minutes apart per person.

--Multiple-bot owners cannot stack their bots' messages one on top of the other, they must be individually timed and spaced apart. It is discouraging, to say the least, for players to be faced with a wall of automated messages.

--Players are allowed 1 ad per 5 minutes.

--Personal or guild restrictions and conditions, such as but not limited to, who you will not buy or sell from, are to be stated/discussed in pm, NOT in the public advertisement.

--Only one "line" per message/ad/announcement. This is equal to the amount of typing you can do in one post before you must hit your enter key to send it. (Yes it might actually look like two lines)

--Players and bots must post for themselves. Any exceptions have met all required security standards to prevent fraudulent and illegal third-party posts.

**Current exceptions:

--EternalBroker

--LabRat's Auction site

NOT allowed in market:

1. Death bags (sent to jc 1, 4)

2. Looking for training partners (sent to jc 4)

3. Non-existent services, scams

This may be added to at any time, as issues come up. Hopefully this will clear things up for you all. This is effective immediately. If you or your bots are making any announcements that do not follow these guidelines, you must remove them at once or they will be removed for you as we see them.

EL General Chat (jc 4)

EL general chat is just that...conversation about Eternal Lands. Not market ads, not personal chat, not chat about other games. Please take all off-topic chat to it's appropriate channel, or if all else fails, the true off-topic channel jc 20.

Ads such as guild recruitment are to be no less than 5 minutes apart, and please note it is one ad per guild/event/person.

Eternal Lands Game Rules.

1. Don’t be a troublemaker.
Don't cause problems on purpose that require the attentions of the moderators. If in doubt, don't do it.
Breaking these rules or the spirit of the rules (not just the letter of the law) is punishable. While for most people a warning is sufficient, for repeat offenders, trolls, intentional troublemakers, and/or severe infractions we may bypass warnings.

2. Moderation is never a topic for public discussion.
Issues and questions regarding in game policies and procedures should be addressed to the game administrators (namely Aislinn) or the specific moderator via private message. Issues and problems concerning other game moderators should also be addressed privately with Aislinn. All private messages will remain classified unless otherwise agreed upon.

3. Do Not Cheat.
Cheating in the game means using illegal clients, illegal unofficial map (.elm) files that have been altered from the official versions, unregistered and/or unapproved bots, macroing, automating, scripting, or exploiting bugs. Any attempt to seek loopholes or manipulate information to get around these rules is grounds for banning. Anyone knowingly aiding cheaters will also be locked and/or banned.

4. No Skirting Punishments.
Seeking loopholes or attempting to get around any punishment can result in permanent bans from both the Eternal Lands game and forums. This includes, but is not limited to, using or creating additional accounts to get around bans and locks, as well as minor punishments. Anyone knowingly aiding someone in circumventing a punishment will also receive an appropriate punishment.

5. Use Appropriate language.
Do not use language which is sexually explicit, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise offensive. This includes both clear and implied language, images, or links to websites with such content. This includes purposeful variances upon the spelling of such content for the purpose of bypassing the filters.

6. No Harassment.
Harassment is not limited to the type of language used; it encompasses the intent. This includes both clear and implied language or actions that are systematically and/or continually unwanted and annoying. This further includes the distribution, release, or discussion of any real-life, personal, or private information about other players, moderators or volunteers of Eternal Lands. Repeatedly targeting a specific player or persons with harassment will result in severe consequences.

7. Respect Others.
You must respect the rights of others and their rights to enjoy this game.
Do not advocate, start or participate in any discussions that are racist, sexist, anti-religious, anti-ethnic, anti-gay or other hatemongering philosophies, or anything that is sexually explicit in public. Do not organize nor be a part of any guilds or groups within Eternal Lands or their forums that do so.
Do not patronize, mislead, or take advantage of people (newbies) as they become acquainted with the environment and make beginner's mistakes.
**Note** This does NOT include pking, pvping, "spawn stealing", bag stealing/jumping, or guild/interguild issues. These are a normal part of gameplay and will be treated as such.

8. Do Not Give Out Your Password.
Once you give your password out to anyone for any reason, even for the purpose of character sharing, you relinquish all rights to that character. Eternal Lands is not responsible for the return of your character or account, or for the actions of your character once you have disclosed your password. Characters that break the rules can and will be locked, regardless if "someone else" was on it.

9. Use Appropriate Names.
Please do not create a name that is obscene, vulgar, profane, offensive, utterly senseless and stupid (e.g. dfjritq47fa), or is made with the intent of impersonation. Take into consideration that the name you choose does affect the atmosphere of the game. Inappropriate names can and will be locked no matter how much time you have spent in the game.

10. No Impersonations.
Do not impersonate any Eternal Lands owners, developers, moderators, players, bots, npc's, or guild. This includes creating similar variances upon names in order to deceive, misrepresent or post false information to others. Also do not pretend to be a bot. **Note** If you purchase a name change, your old name is now fair game for another player. If you did not like the name enough to keep it, don't complain if someone else wants it.

11. No Character Creation Spamming.
Do not attempt to spam character creation by creating numerous characters with similar names (e.g. Player1, Player2, Player3…) or by creating numerous characters in a short period of time.

12. No Linking To Inappropriate Websites.
Do not post URLs to sexually explicit, obscene, or vulgar sites. These would be considered "X rated". If the site contains questionable material, something that would be considered "R rated", then you must give a warning before posting it. Do not post or discuss links to cheats, illegal clients, hacks, or malicious viruses or programs, or any sites that would themselves be illegal or promote illegal activities.

13. Sell And Trade At Your Own Risk.
Eternal Lands will not be held responsible for any transactions dealing with real monetary currency/items or in game money/items. No buying or selling of character accounts or guilds, or advertising of them, is to be made in any EL forum, ingame public chat, or channels. You take full responsibilty for your actions and their consequences. Eternal Lands will assume none of that responsibility.

14. No Improper Advertising.
Do not market, promote, advertise or solicit within the Eternal Lands any non-Eternal Lands related businesses, organizations or websites.

15. No Spamming.
Spamming is excessively communicating the same post, phrase, similar phrases, or posting purposefully irrelevant messages. This also applies to excessive personal conversations (in any language) in highly populated places* that derail these locations' purpose and create spam.
*Highly populated places can include, but are not limited to, beam, storages, and channels including the unmoderated ones such as the language channels.

16. Multilingualism
English is the official language in EL. We do support and embrace the other languages, which is why we are working on translations as well. However, we do require that you speak English in official channels, since those are highly populated places where multiple languages derail their purpose and create spam.
*A simple one line greeting in another language is acceptable.

17. No Bag Spamming.
Do not drop large numbers of bags for any purpose as this may lead to the bags of others disappearing and cause people to lose the items they’ve temporarily placed at their feet.

18. No Summoning Near Populated/High Traffic Areas.
Do not attempt to summon or bring your previously summoned creatures with you near populated and high traffic areas(e.g. all storages, Wraith, “beam”, NPC's, ships, etc.). In addition, on Isla Prima and its insides, do not summon anything other than IP's natural inhabitants(i.e. rabbits, rats, and beavers). If your summoning is causing such problems as, but not limited to, lag or resource blocking for other players, in addition to the above restrictions, you may be asked by a mod to stop and move somewhere else to summon.

19. Do Not Block Resources.
Resources include, but are not limited to, spawns, harvestables, teleportals, ships, doors, bridges, and archways. If you are asked to move, please let people pass.

20. No Hacking.
Do not attempt to interfere with or hack into any transmissions to or from the servers. Do not attempt to hack into someone else's account or convince them to give you or others their passwords.

21. No Exploiting Bugs.
Do not exploit any bug in Eternal Lands and do not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug (bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits) either directly or through public posting. This information should be immediately communicated to the Eternal Lands' owners privately.

22. No Illegal Clients.
When modifying the Eternal Lands client you must abide to the license given, and may not distribute copies of illegally made clients. All patches or unofficial clients must first be approved by an Eternal Lands owner (namely Entropy/radu) before use.

23. No Macroing or Automation.
Do not use illegal automated programs, scripts, or computers. The use of any illegal automated program or system, devices, computers, or scripts will result in an immediate ban from the game.

24. Bots must be declared.
To use a bot in Eternal Lands, the bot must be registered, approved, and obey the bot rules. You can register your bot and read the bot rules here: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13063
If you do not declare your bot it may be banned from the game.

25. Obey Contest Rules.
The moderators may create and enforce rules and consequences for contests and other events, which you agree to abide by and be bound by through the act of participating and/or attending.

26. Invance Rules
1. No sabotaging other players, no blocking stuff (except for the gate). If you are the gate keeper, you must NOT be AFK and you must allow people to go through the gate.

2. If you go to an invance where you would gain exp at the end (that is, your levels are within the invance range), you must help the team win. So:
a. No AFKing inside the fort walls, or on the walls.
b. You must bring good gear with you, don't come naked or with iron swords or with training arrows/bolts or with low level bows.
c. If you decide to be an archer, you must bring good gear (see the above point), have a reasonably high AP* (over 20), and you must use at least 300 arrows**.
c1. Archers must continue to fight (ranged or melee) even after there are no more mobs around the walls. So if you see that you don't have targets to attack, you must go out in the field and hunt. However, one single archer is allowed to stay on the walls near the gate, as a backup. Only the best archer in the team is allowed to do that (highest AP and ranging skill).
d. If for some reason you have to go AFK for more than 2 minutes, you must leave the map and not come back before the end. Do not go to invances if you think you will not be able to finish them, it is rude to the other players.

3. If you go as an observer (levels under the cap) you are not allowed to get bags without explicit permission from the players there. You must also not get in the way or inconvenience those who fight. This also includes unnecessary chat on the invance channel.

4. If you see someone breaking those rules, you must report them via the #abuse command.

*The AP requirement doesn't apply for 40-60 or 60-80 invances.
**If you have the Ethereal Ranger perk, you can use 200 arrows/bolts instead. Also, this applies for people that only do ranging, if you do melee too than it doesn't apply to you.

27. Capped Invasion Rules
People over the cap are only allowed to WATCH them. They are not allowed to interfere in any way, such as healing players, blocking resources/paths, taking bags, casting spells that would affect players, monsters or summons, or anything that would help or sabotage those fighting in the invasion. Giving advice is OK, but nothing more.

28. Obey Channel Rules.
Rules for all Official Channels:
1. No coordinates are allowed to be given in any official channel. Players need to learn to explore and notice their surroundings. The goal is not to blindly auto-walk everywhere you go.
2. No quest help is allowed to be given in any official channel. If the player who asks is truly stuck (and not just lazy), you MAY pm them to try to set them on the correct path. Talking about it publicly ruins the quest fun for everyone else who wants to attempt it.
3. Game secrets are not allowed to be publicly told, discussed or sold in any official channel. Again, it ruins the fun for everyone else.
4. Players are allowed 1 ad per 5 minutes if applicable, such as guild recruitment ads on channel 4. This also applies as a per guild (or group) rule. One ad per guild or group (regardless who posts) per 5 minutes.
5. Deathbags can be announced on channels 1, 2 and 6 (not on channel 3).
6. Buying/Selling and price checks belong to channel 3.

Newbie Help Channel Rules (#jc 1)
1. The Newbie Help Channel is for newbie questions and answers only, chat is directed to #jc 6.
2. Questions about monsters and other creatures stronger than wolf are directed to #jc 2.
3. In general, only questions relating to levels less than 20 belong to this channel.
4. Only ask Seridia (C1) questions; most Irillion (C2) questions are directed to #jc 2.
5. Anybody persisting in asking non-newbie questions or chatting about non-newbie stuff, after being asked to stop or move to #jc 2, will be denoobed.

General Help Channel Rules (#jc 2)
1. The channel is for Eternal Lands questions and answers only, chat is directed to #jc 6.

Market Channel Rules (#jc 3)
1. In Market Channel it is allowed to: buy/sell ingame items, buy/sell ingame services*, asking price checks, and posting lotteries.
*services can include, but are not limited to:
- hauling/muling harvestables for other players;
- pk services;
- bounties, with the following rule: NO NAMES ALLOWED TO BE MENTIONED.
2. Players are allowed 1 ad per 5 minutes.
3. Automated announcements (bots) need to be a minimum of 15 minutes apart.
4. URL links need to be a minimum of 15 minutes apart per person/group.
5. Multiple-bot owners cannot stack their bots' messages one on top of the other, they must be individually timed and spaced apart. It is frustrating for players to be faced with a wall of automated messages.
6. Personal or guild restrictions and conditions, such as but not limited to who you will not buy or sell from, are to be stated/discussed in pm, NOT in the public advertisement.
7. Only one "line" per message/ad/announcement. This is equal to the amount of typing you can do in one post before you must hit your enter key to send it. (Yes it might actually look like two lines.)
8. Players and bots must post for themselves**. Any exceptions have met all required security standards to prevent fraudulent and illegal third-party posts.
**Current exceptions:
- EternalBroker
- Guild NPCs (one member per guild can post for them once every 15 minutes)
9. It is not allowed to announce death bags on Market Channel.

Radu's Chat Rules (#jc 6)
1. "Radu's Chat" channel is the general chat location for EL. This channel is somewhat more lax than the other official channels, so enter at your own risk. However, be mindful of the game rules. They still do apply.

Official Contests Channel Rules (#jc 7):
1. All prizes and conditions to win contests MUST be announced at the beginning of the contest before the players start.
2. Contest holder MUST follow through to the end and give the stated prizes. Intentional logging out to avoid awarding the prizes will be punished.
3. No changing of the rules or conditions of the contest after it has started.
4. No substitutions of prizes (unless of greater value or adding additional items) after the contest has been stated and/or started.
5. Only one contest at a time. Check first before starting one. Official contests and events take precedence.
6. No lengthy general/off-topic chat during contests. Also keep the chatter down when there is no contest. With lengthy conversations and discussions, it's harder to check if any contest is currently on, and more difficult to get a contest started (the announcement can get lost in the chat).
7. Do NOT make "PM Player X saying blah blah blah" contests WITHOUT Player X's permission.

All rules here may be subject to change or addition at any given time.

The moderators of Eternal Lands have the authority to use their discretion on a case by case basis. Repeatedly violating any part of the Eternal Lands Terms of Use or Forum Code of Conduct, including the areas detailed above, can result in permanent banishment from the forums and game.

The forums are given to the community free of charge as a privelege to use, as is the game itself, so we ask that you do not abuse this privelege and in joining these forums that you will abide by the rules listed here:

3. No Hate Groups

Do not organize nor be a part of any guilds or groups within Eternal Lands or their forums that are based on or advocate any racist, sexist, anti-religious, anti-ethnic, anti-gay or other hatemongering philosophies.

4. Respect Others

You must respect the rights of others and their rights to enjoy this game and the forums. In order to show proper respect, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, insult, name call, or cause distress and / or unwanted attention to other members, moderators, volunteers, or developers. Do not patronize people as they become acquainted with the environment and make beginners’ mistakes.

Posting

5. Posts should be constructive in nature.

Back up your statements / claims. If quoting, make sure to quote all relevant and necessary text, and if appropriate, provide a link to the originating source. Do not make posts or threads that are solely intended to incite controversy, provoke anger, insult people, present misinformation, and / or concerning personal issues with other members.

6. Use Proper Titles

Use a relevant, specific and descriptive subject for any thread you create. “Good idea” and “Look at this” are not examples of good titles. Moderators retain the right to edit the titles to more accurately describe the content within.

7. Use standard font color and size.

"Some" use of fancy fonts and colors is fine, if used to highlight a word or line. However, entire posts made up of large, specialized, and/or multi-colored print is disturbing to the eyes and many people can't read it as well. Forum moderators can and will use their discretion in removing the post or changing the font back to normal.

8. Stay on topic.

When posting a new thread, make sure it fits into the topic or category of the forum. When replying to a post, make sure to stay on the topic of the thread you’re posting in. Do not post across several categories or in the first available forum.

9. Use Constructive Criticism

Do not insult the developers or implementations of the game. When a new addition is made to the game and you find something wrong with it, then phrase your words in a thoughtful and meaningful way that people will be willing to respond to. Back your ideas or opinions up by facts or good, well thought out suggestions.

10. Sell and Trade at your own risk.

Eternal Lands will not be held responsible for any transactions made in game or on the forums dealing with real monetary currency or in game money or items. No buying or selling of character accounts is to be made in any forum or in game public chat or channels.

11. Do not give out your password.

Once you give your password out to anyone, even for the purpose of character sharing, you relinquish all rights to that character. Eternal Lands is not responsible for the return of your character or account, or for the actions of your character once you have disclosed your password.

12. No Flaming or Trolling.

Do not verbally attack or provoke others into fights or post for the sole purpose of causing unrest or dissent and stirring up trouble. Do not use immature name-calling and do not take personal conflicts onto the forums in public.

13. No Spamming.

Spamming is excessively communicating the same post, phrase, similar phrases, or bumping or posting without any real content. Do not post for the sole purpose of increasing your post count (i.e. popularity contests, post bumping, cross posting).

14. No Linking to inappropriate websites.

Do not post links to porn sites. If the site contains questionable material, something that would be considered "R/X/AO rated", then you must give a warning in your post concerning it. No linking to websites that would contain content in violation of any forum or game rules stated here.

Some questionable links will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

15. No improper advertising.

Do not market, promote, advertise or solicit within the Eternal Lands Forums any non-Eternal Lands related business, organizations or websites.

16. No Impersonations

Do not impersonate or pass yourself off as an Eternal Lands owner, developer, moderator, or in-game players. This includes creating similar variances upon names in order to deceive, misrepresent or post false information to others.

17. Exploiting

Do not exploit any bug in Eternal Lands or on the Eternal Lands Forums and do not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug (bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits) either directly or through public posting. This information should be immediately communicated to the Eternal Lands' owners privately.

18. Do not post or discuss links to cheats, illegal clients, hacks or malicious viruses / programs.

When modifying the Eternal Lands client you must abide to the license given, and may not distribute copies of illegally made clients.

19. Hacking

Do not attempt to interfere with or hack into any transmissions to or from the servers. Do not attempt to hack into someone else's account.

20. Macro, Automate.

Do not use illegal automated programs, scripts and computers. The use of any illegal automated program or system, devices, computers or scripts is strictly prohibited and may result in criminal liability under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, Section 1030 of the United States Code. Violators will be prosecuted to the full extend of applicable law and may also be liable for the punitive damage.

21. Do not violate any local, state, national or international laws or regulations.

22. Copyright Infringement

Do not upload or transmit copyrighted material that you do not own all rights to without the express written permission of the copyright holder.

23. Skirting Punishments

Do not attempt to create additional accounts if you have been banned or suspended. Seeking loopholes to punishments can result in permanent bans from both the Eternal Lands Forums and game.

24. No direct link useage of EL website graphics

Do not post images in any forums of any graphics from the EL websites. Doing this causes the internet traffic to rise to our sites, thus increasing our costs. This includes direct linking the images as your avatar or signature, in a post, or any other way possible.

25. No scamming with your forum account.

If you try to scam with your forum account, you will have all forum accounts deleted and all ingame characters deleted. Most likely you will be banned from both too.

Forum Names, Signatures and Avatars

26. No bad names.

Illegal names can and will be locked no matter how much time you have spent on the forums. Furthermore, no names allowed whose intention is to belittle the conditions of others or impersonate anyone or are in any way obscene, vulgar, or profane.

27.One forum account per human.

All others will be locked or deleted. Admin choice which one stays, if any.

28. Signatures & Avatars

Stay away from flashy, hectic and annoying pictures, especially when animated.

Your avatar must be no bigger than 90 pixels by 90 pixels in size and no larger than 50 KB.

Keep signatures limited to any combination of text and images that doesn't exceed 80 pixels of height and 640 pixels of length. Signatures must be no larger than 50 KB.

What can and cannot be included in signatures and images follows the same rules and regulations as anything else posted in these forums.

Forum Moderation

29. Moderation is never a topic for public discussion.

Issues and questions regarding forum policies and procedures should be addressed to the game administrators(namely Roja or Entropy) or the specific moderator via private message or email. Issues and problems concerning other forum or game moderators should also be addressed privately with Entropy or Roja. All private messages will remain classified unless otherwise agreed upon. Public threads on these issues will be removed.

30. Locked threads.

If a topic is closed or removed do not, under any circumstances, re-post the same topic or material. If you have any questions as to why a thread was closed or removed please contact the moderator via private message. Do not create a new thread on a topic if there is currently a thread on that topic already.

31. Spoilers

Spoilers (including but not limited to: entrances/exits to secret locations or quest guides) are not allowed at all and your posts will be deleted without warning. We reserve the right to delete any post if we feel that it is a spoiler that should not be shown on these forums.

All rules here may be subject to change or addition at any given time.

The moderators of Eternal Lands have the authority to use their discretion and common sense on a case by case basis on moderating these forums and punishments for violating any of these rules.

Repeatedly violating any area of the Eternal Lands Terms of Use or Forum Code of Conduct, including the areas detailed above, will often result in permanent banishment from the forums and game.

**All In game rules NOT listed or changed here STILL apply for bots!**

	Eternal Land's Bot Rules

	1. All bots must be declared & paid for. If they are not, they will be banned.

	2. Bots that only talk are OK, as long as they don't spam local chat or a main channel,

and they are not breaking any of the game rules.

	3. The only bots that are allowed to buy and sell now are paid bots.

	4. Trade bots cannot be in range of any storage, or in high traffic areas (docks, etc.)

	5. Bots that serve their master in a way such as muling are illegal (see the rules for multiplaying).

	6. Bots cannot be stationed in range of harvestable items. They must be far enough way so that they

cannot harvest from where they are standing.

	7. No bots are allowed on Isla Prima or VotD unless agreed upon by us.

	8. Bots can not make items or level up* in any skills using any automated program(s), or manually.

If the Player wants to level the bot manually, this has to be done BEFORE the character becomes

a bot and is declared to be one, NOT use any automating programs which would go against the main game rules. If a bot is in a map where there are monsters who will attack it, the bot needs to have the MM perk or cape.

	9. Commerce bots have to be stationary, with a few exceptions (such as going to the storage every once in a while, or some bots going to resupply, if an exception is made in their case).

	10. Bots that are allowed to speak in official channels are only allowed one message no more frequently than once every 15 minutes. That means the entire message MUST fit in one posting only.

	11. If you wish to add any new features AFTER your bot was an initially approved, those features must be approved by Entropy FIRST.

	12. No horses or any other mounts are allowed for bots!

	13. Bots must be at least 30 steps away from the storage NPC, or 30 steps away from the door to the storage NPC.

	Some bot exceptions:

*Exceptions to the rule of no leveling up in any skill MIGHT be possible but only after having Entropy

know about it and agreed upon. You must discuss these issues with him and give all details as to why

your bot should be allowed to level up.

**These rules can be added to or revised at any given time.

1.A normal character bot: $20 per year.

2.A blessed character bot: $100 for the first year, then $20 for each year thereafter.

To pay: Visit the Shop Page of our website, scroll all the way down and read about payment information. You can use paypal or send a check or money order in the mail.

To declare: When you send in your payment, you must also write a message with the following info:

	1. your in game name

	2. your bot's in game name

	3. what your bot will be used for

	4. the location of the bot. Exact x,y coordinates and the map name must be given!

Paypal has a place that you can do this by default that will send an email.

*You also may send an email to Entropy at: chaos_rift AT yahoo DOT com OR a forum pm to Entropy if you want to see if your bot will be approved before paying.

**After your bot is declared and approved, your bot will be tagged as such in the game. All bots that are not tagged are considered illegal, as they are undeclared or unapproved. They will be banned!

***Also note Rule #11. If you wish to add any new features AFTER your bot was an initially approved, those features must be approved by Entropy FIRST.

How do i get a bot?

	There are 2 ways:

	1. You have to make it. Yourself. By Programming it!

There is no buttons to click and no form to fill out, no readily made construction set.

You can use the testserver on port 2001 to develop your bot and you have to get your bot approved before you connect with it to the main server.

	2. Find someone to make it for you. Learner offers this service for a price. Go here to read more:

So you think you're top stuff, eh? Want to become an official Eternal Lands moderator in-the-game? A...Newbie Helper?

We get asked about this a lot, so here are the minimal basic requirements we look for. Sometimes there are additional talents we have need of too. Please note: we do not take applications for moderator positions. If we see somebody who fits what we are looking for, we will do the asking.

-Speak english fluently.

-Are a stable and mature person able to be impartial.

-Type maturely (no 1337 sloppy shorthand typing).

-Are active in the game consistently, so as to be a reliable and helpful member of the team.

-Have been playing the game long enough to know the "ins & outs", and have a very good knowledge base of the game.

-You must have been helping newbies & players for a while, consistently and accurately.

-Have a LOT of patience for helping newbs and n00bs alike and not mind saying the same things over and over and over...

-Have no bad record of doing anything illegal or acting nasty in the game.

-Have not continuously begged to be a mod/newbie helper.

...More guidelines can follow later on when I think of them. You don't become a moderator by asking to be one. We usually spot that you are helping a lot in the game, and are a kind, polite player. Someday we might ask you if you want to be one. But do not have your hopes set on it, don't act all nice and helpful just to become a moderator because you want some extra powers or think you will get any rewards from it.

Moderators/newbie helpers do NOT get ANYTHING for free. They do what they do because they are good people who want to help a game they like!(well at least I hope that is why )

Almost always when we have a change made to this game there are people who complain. Now, it's alright to complain as long as you follow forum rule #12, but we also have people who flame, quit the game, and think that we, the developers, don't listen to them.

I'd like everyone who has played this game and has gone through different updates/changes to the game with us to keep the following in mind:

#1. We love making this game, we care about it and the users. However please understand that we have fulltime jobs outside of this game, we are not on 24/7 and there are few of us. Things move slowly, forum/game moderation is not 100%, and we will never be perfect.

#2. We want this to be the best game we can possibly make.

#3. In trying to accomplish #2, we will be doing many updates and changes to the game. These updates and changes will not always be 100% right the first time we put them in the game. They very well might need a few days to get right, but we will keep working on them until they are right. But please remember, the changes we make are to TRY and make the game better, because it is trial and error for us too! To make something great you must take risks, try new things, even if they are controversial and the players don't like them at first. Sometimes it takes a bit to get used to something new.

#4. This game is not complete, it is in Beta stage, that means you players are Beta testers, and should have the respect to help us out by giving mature, positive feedback, not flames. When we make a change, don't give up on it, test it out for a few days, there may be new things you find out about something that we didn't know before to help us fix the game and make it better.

#5. We DO listen to player feedback. Contrary to what some might think, we do read the vast majority of the posted suggestions and ideas in these forums. Just because we don't have time to reply to them all, doesn't mean we didn't read it over. If I read a good point, I tell that person it is a good idea, and I do keep it in mind.

#6. We have a lot left planned for this game, from simply adding a ton more monsters & weapons to more complex things like reworking the skill systems. We cannot put a deadline on when it will all be done.

Any Eternal Lands client binary must comply with the Eternal Lands license, most importantly the following sections:

4. You may distribute machine-executable forms of the Software or machine-executable forms of modified versions of the Software, provided that you meet these restrictions:

a. You must include this license document in the distribution.

b. You must ensure that all recipients of the machine-executable forms are also able to receive the complete machine-readable source code to the distributed Software, including all modifications, without any charge beyond the costs of data transfer, and place prominent notices in the distribution explaining this.

c. You must ensure that all modifications included in the machine-executable forms are available under the terms of this license.

Translation: any binaries you create must be accompanied by the source code used to compile them. Additionally, if you modified the source code, it must comply with the same section that relates to patches:

3. You may make modifications to the Software and distribute your modifications, in a form that is separate from the Software, such as patches. The following restrictions apply to modifications:

a. Modifications must not alter or remove any copyright notices in the Software.

b. When modifications to the Software are released under this license, a non-exclusive royalty-free right is granted to the initial developer of the Software to distribute your modification in future versions of the Software provided such versions remain available under these terms in addition to any other license(s) of the initial developer.

c. You must cause the modified files to carry prominent notices stating that you changed the files and the date of any change.

This means that any modifications you make to the client become the property of Radu, and he has the right to add them to the official client.

The following restrictions section of the license is the most clear:

Restrictions:
1. You are not allowed to use the Binary Data that comes with the Official Eternal Lands Client without our prior approval.

2. You may not distribute our Binary Data in your modified versions, without our approval.

3. You may not use our Trademarks (such as Eternal Lands) in modifed version

s, without our approval. You can (and must) add a notice stating that the code is a Modified Version of the the Eternal Lands Official Client.

4. You may not use modified versions to connect to the Eternal Lands server, without our approval.

The one that affects the most people is #4. Any modified version of the client that connects to the server is in violation of the license.

In order to get approval for connecting to the server with a modified client, you should notify the developers in the Programming forum that you want to begin work on something. It could also save you time, if there is someone else already working on a similar modification or the modification will not be allowed. People who are already active in development and have been submitting patches do not need to worry about this, you have permission.

An exception to the modified clients rule is bots, which must follow the rules here:

Official Newbie Helper and Moderator Rules & Regulations here.

Note: this is an unfinished list, more can be added to or changed at any time.

NEWBIE CHANNEL RULES:

1. Obviously no spamming or insulting, obscene talk/language.

2. The purpose of Newbie Help channel is just that, newbie help. It does not matter if a newbie is asking a question or not at that time, it is still ONLY newbie help. It is up to the moderator(s) in the channel to keep it that way.

3. Answering questions and helping newbies comes first and foremost! If someone asks a question, then answer that question before you talk about anything else. And if you do not know the answer then say you don't know instead of not saying anything or continueing to chat(they might think you're ignoring them)!

MARKET CHANNEL RULES:

1. Obviously no spamming or insulting, obscene talk/language.

2. The purpose of market channel is to buy and sell and get information about buying and selling (ie. price checks). When the conversation goes off course, the resulting consequences are at the discretion of the moderator(s) in the channel.

BROADCASTING RULES:

1. All big events that have never been done before have to be cleared with me first. So send me a PM, telling me what day/time you will do it, and if I approve it then you can go ahead and do the event.

2. Smaller events, such as manhunt's do not have to be approved by me, HOWEVER, I would like to limit them to 3 per hour. A good question is how do you know if there was 3 already. Well, you really don't have any way of knowing for sure, but you can ask other NH's if there have been any. And if no one knows, then it is ok to do the event.

3. Events like Trivia Contests should be done on a specific channel(or area in the game), and should NOT be BC'd messages except for the beginning and conclusion of the event, or any other important message concerning it. But the questions and such should NOT be bc'd.

DENOOBIFYING RULES:

1. Only denoob someone if they have "offtopic'd" more than one time, no statute of limitations.

2. Things such as (but not limited to) modbashing, gamebashing, or giving out private dev info does not even require a warning, you can just denoob them as soon as you see them doing it.

3. Things such as (but not limited to) spamming, argumentative/disruptive behavior, ingame secrets, or obscene language can result in a denoob if warnings and/or punishments do not stop the behavior, or result in worse behavior.

4. Denoobings should be discussed with other online mods first to get a consensus if at all possible.

WARNINGS

1. Overall, we should #rule or #or (overrule leaves a log, rule does not) first, also a pm or mpm is considered a warning as well.

2. In a channel, when multiple people are needing a warning, a public channel warning to the channel in general IS considered an official warning.

3. Things such as (but not limited to) modbashing, gamebashing, or private dev info, do not even require a warning, you can just mute/denoob/kick/boot them as soon as you see them do it.

4. Things such as (but not limited to) spamming, argumentative/disruptive behavior, ingame secrets, or obscene language for first-time offenders should get a warning first. If they don't listen and do it again, they do NOT need more warnings.

5. Repeat troublemakers: These people do NOT need a warning, there is a HUGE difference between the random offense or unintended offense (which will get a warning unless drastic as mentioned above) and the repeat troublemaker. Repeat offenders with a pattern of (intentional ?) rule breaking will be punished accordingly and without warning upon commission.

PKING RULES:

1. If someone specifically ASKS to be made Player-Killable, then you may make him PKable, but they must give you a reason and it must be a valid reason. If you see them abusing something because they are pkable, then unpk them immediately.

2. If you want to make someone PKable for a contest, that is fine too but ONLY if he/she agrees to it!

3. If someone has broken a rule on purpose and has flammed/spammed you and others in public, then you may make this person PKable. However you MUST also post on the abuse forum the reason you made this person pkable along with the chat log of their offenses.
