Goblins

I just knew that he was going to be late. Gibur was always late. As a matter of fact he hadn’t been on time a single day in his life. But dwarves do not pick on each other, now do we?
So I picked up my pack of mining gear and headed out for the gold mine by myself. I was a quiet afternoon, in general a pleasant day, not as pleasant as a mug of dwarven ale deep down in the great hall, but still nice. The entrance to the mine was in disarray, no guards and a disturbing amount of debris - a cave-in! I dropped my gear and rushed forward to help my brethren. After a few steps I stumbled upon something, it was, I’m sad to say, Gibur. He had a look on his face that looked scared. What could have scared Gibur the slow? I thought to myself. I gazed down the shaft of the mine and saw movement, strange movement. This was not the proud walk of a sturdy dwarf, it was sneakier. So I took the same tactics as the intruders and when I got closer I saw strange green creatures tearing flesh of a dead dwarf. I turned and fled the mines. And that was my first encounter with the race they call goblins.
- Bosur Ingotdigger, dwarven miner of Mynadar.
History
The goblin scavenger race is believed to be Selain’s attempt to create a vile form of the orchans. The goblins couldn’t muster enough strength to battle the other races, so they withdrew to the earth. There they waited, trained and learned the way of stealth and ambush.
Over the centuries Selain lost interest in the goblins and their ways, and they slowly drifted into oblivion, the bad yet laughable evil of fairy tales.
When the dwarves continued their search for gold and gems they rediscovered the goblins. They soon learned that the goblins of the old tales were no more. This "new" breed of goblins was much stronger, more agile and hungrier than ever.
Physiology
Goblins are ugly, smelly scavengers. They mostly travel in packs of 5 or 6, but many times they could also be seen traveling alone. Varying around 5 feet or less in height, they have greenish marked skin, yellowish brown eyes, and wear clothing, armor and weapons that they pilfered from dead corpses in graves, an unsuspecting traveler, or each other.
Society
Most goblins lack the mental capacity to form any kind of society and they do not worship any gods. Some goblins can occasionally rise above the single-minded dimwittedness of the average goblin; these goblins wear clothes and arms. The armed goblins can form societies or tribes, but it is a rare thing.
Standard tactics of the goblins is usually ambush and devastating sneak-attacks. However, the average goblin is usually too stupid to determine if fighting you is a good or bad thing for them.
