Wannabe crafter needs advice

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if the Molimes and Ghraes of this world have any advice for a newbious crafter who does not want to spend his life harvesting cotton. What is the most efficient route to succes with minimum expenditure of time and gc?

One of the problems I experienced is that the most useful C1 rings - which IMO are VotD, IP, DP and Naralik - are also drops or have a free alternative (i.e., #beam me) ...with the exception of the DP ring. As a result, I abandoned the crafting god because it was proving to be useless.

Is there anywhere I may look to for encouragement in this skill?

When you have the level to polish sapphs, I'd do a lot of those. If you can afford to, keep them for later use. If not, at least you can sell them to NPC without losing a lot (and for a profit if you make your own WEs).

If you get to the level to make meds: do those. They sell to NPC as well, for 170gc. If you can sell items to market, good. But the market value is usually less than the value of the ingredients. So, polishing/meds should keep you going until you can go for the C2 rings (although it's quite a while before you get to the good ones, Glacmor mainly)

There isn't one. Every way to level crafting takes quite a bit of time and/or gc. Your options for the lower levels are pretty basic. Spend the time gathering ingredients to make thread, base rings, and/or vials, move on to polishing gems when you've read the books.

I reccomend as much pol sapphs as possible, then once you have a decent enough level make moon meds and sell to NPC, you'll make a big of gc and a lot of exp. Meds continue to provide decent exp for a ery long time, but when you do get into the 40s/50s crafting in the school or maybe crafting half in school, half out to reduce losses of gc. Also a few C2 rings (Mainly glac and EVTR once you have the levels) get good exp and can be sold quite well. Thats my advice ;)

I do not like the crafting of silver and gold rings and amulets at low levels. The ingredients for a ring are expensive compared to the polishing. Better to start early at polishing, use craft potion if you wish. Once you reach a decent enough level to craft base rings and amulets with nearly no loss, do you start on those.

*shows my EL age* When I started there were no crafting potions or thread. I started with polishing sapphires.

Today though I would suggest making thread to level 10-15. Then grabbing some crafting potions and polishing until level 30. Make a few rings on the side as needed, but due to all the ingredients, best to wait until you're well beyond the suggested level so you don't loose ingredients often.

There's not a good trainer in the 30-70 range. Diss rings if you have fighters in your guild.

Otherwise Moon Meds (sell to NPC). All that polishing helps here!

Once you get over the hump of the 50s, you can start on C2 rings, but the lowest level C2 rings are also the most expensive to make.

If you can somehow get to level 75, start on Glacmor and EVTR. If you do some of the harvesting yourself you can break even (even turn a tiny profit around level 80).

I always found vials to be an excellent form of leveling.

You can level very fast if you make your own ings

also if you do medallions and want pure profit exp i suggest harvest your own stuff

Last post was in November to you dug up a thread just to be sarcastic? If you want to post to the skills forums try one of the following:

- Legitimate question

- Constructive criticism

- Legitimate answer

Sarcasm on a nearly 1 year old thread is not acceptable

So, I'm completely new. I used to have a character and lost the info so had to create a new one.

I have mainly been focusing on crafting, since it is the easiest thing to do. My crafting level is at 8. From things I have read here, my approach should be:

Make thread via harvesting cotton until level 15ish

Make vials (how?) until lvl 25

Make rings (how?) until lvl 30

My problem is.. what do I need in order to do this? I have already made thread. :) But how (and what knowledge) do I need in order to make vials/rings, etc?

Any help is appreciated.

Ok, so the question is a month old, but it is unanswered, and this is my thread, so I'm seizing this chance to bump it!

@arthur

I'm not sure how much progress you've made since your post, but many people would argue that crafting is certainly not an 'easy' skill. The ingredients for most items (crafting or otherwise) are listed in your encyclopedia, which you can access by clicking the question-mark icon in-game. There is also a key combination that opens the ency....not sure if it's Alt-E ot Ctrl-E - I'm posting during my luch break at work.

Also check the posts by molime and Ghrae in this thread. They are currently the top crafters in-game, and so should know what they are talking about. You may also find the CEL website useful. For example, information about jewellery may be found here. In fact, it has just about everything you may wish to know about the game, and makes nice reading too :)

Harv cotton for a few days, then get to crafting school and turn all cotton into double exp. Getting to level 30 should take less than 10 hours if you use fps, as simple as that.

Being a fairly new low level crafter myself, i started with the cotton thing first too.

Next i made the rings, silver and gold, went very well, very fast. But, u do gotta harvest the ingredients of course.

Next, polishing gems, as suggested, do the gems that require only 1 of each ingredient: sandpaper, water ess, gem. Sell the gems to the npc, buy more sanding paper/ FP's and do it again.

Polishing gems helped me level very well.

Making empty vials as well is great, but you have to get the vial mold first, either get the ingredients for someone to make it for you, buy it, or read all the books for it, get your manu'r up to make.

I did try medallions, personally, I prefer the polishing the gems. It's easy, and relaxing.

Good luck, have fun :lipssealed:

Ass mode kicked in? I like making thread from cotton. When I get bored, I make bars for rings. I then make rings, if I'm not bored already. I eat Dead People helps w/ mixing alot.

I did enjoy vials... until the molds started breaking. While it is GREAT xp... EFEs or vial molds make it questionable whether you make any money.

Popular Craft Training Items: Thread (harv & make at cotton patches), Polished Sapps, Medallions, Vials

Once you get to level 80, you should be getting 95% success rate on Glacmor rings. So a little bit of harvesting can mean breaking even or turning a small profit. Plus the xp is higher than most other things.

I will share my crafting experience (I've just reached lvl 70)

I've starting playing this game when threads cannot be mixable: in those ancient ages I mixed raw silver and gold rings to be sold to other high-levelled crafters. But the failure rate were very high and the money back not so good (well, I have ever harvested and mixed all the resources by myself...so we cannot say that I've lost money). When Threads arrives I were around craft 12 (iirc), so I begin to mix tread up to 22-25 (cannot remember exactly, was a lot of time ago... :D ). At those levels I begin to mix polished sapphires (a good noob that wishes to become crafter have to read all books about sapphires pretty soon :) like all the other mineral books ), approximately up to 60. When also vials become mixable, I've seen that they can be good starting from 40s to level. Then I begin to do some glac rings, with very high rate of losing ingredients (Always making ingredients by myself). Now, at craft 70, I have a failure rate of 87% (using some potions anyway...will be 85-86% without pots at all, 88-89% using potions all the day), and if you consider that I buy only en essies and mix all other ings I have also a good money retourn. But mixing all the ings is a huge work (now I will need at least 1k glac rings to reach craft 71...so it will be 2k polished sapphires, 2k silver bars and A LOT of fes, without considering rubies... :P ).

Anyway, for the lovers of the statistics, glac rings faliure rate was, for me, the follow:

- cra 60 - 77-78%

- cra 70 - 85-88% (depends also what is your astro bonus when mixing, and if you use crafting potions or not...)

hope it will be useful for your conveniency extimations :D

Ditto:

polished sapphires are really good xp. you can sell them to the magic shop in idaloran and use that gc to buy more sanding paper and continue the cycle.

Vials are okay, I usually make them in a school when its a special day, or my astro makes degrade low. (not sure if degrade affects vial molds, but I don't want to chance it)

I also REALLY like medallions. We have guild projects where we make a few K moon medallions. Usually 3-6k. Then we sell them to a magic shop in glacmore. All sun, star, unicorn, and moon medallions can be sold for 170gc each. But they aren't stackable so 5k moonies can be a REALLY long time!

I love the xp of moonies and teh definitly level me alot.

Once you get the level glacmore and evtr rings are the most cost effective, at least I have found. Useing tons of magic ess for other rings just seems a waste. I'd rather make the least expensive ring and then use the tele to portal once on c2.
