Puntif Report post Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) Unlike manufacturing-style mixing, Radu doesn't publish official recommended levels for summoning. I suspected that some of the summoning recommended levels in the encyclopedia were wrong so I did some testing. Summoning mixing seems to follow the same success/fail curve as manufacturing-style mixing. I have measured success rates at a variety of levels of difference between recommended and actual skill levels. Most of my testing was done with a character with skeptic to eliminate adjusting for astro. When mixing at recommended level the success rate is about 50% and the yield is about 75%. I graphed the success rate and yield and found the slope of the curve greatest at the low end. When mixing at 16 levels below recommended the success rate is around 3% (my samples ranged from 1.9% to 5.9%) but mixing at 17 levels below recommended always had 0% success. This difference seems large enough to use to identify the recommended level. I was able to use this methodology on a number of creatures at brown snake level and above. Brown snake - skill level 0: 293 fails, 0 succ (0.0%) ... level 1: 68 fails, 2 succ (2.9%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 17 (encyc says 17) Fox - skill level 3: 145 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 4: 90 fails, 4 success (4.3%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 20 (encyc says 22) Boar - skill level 7: 163 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 8: 323 fails, 7 success (2.1%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 24 (encyc says 26) Wolf - skill level 11: 177 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 12: 215 fails, 6 success (2.7%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 28 (encyc says 32) Skeleton - skill level 15: 124 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 16: 169 fails, 7 success (4.0%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 32 (encyc says 32) Short garg - skill level 17: 152 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 18: 109 fails, 5 success (4.4%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 34 (encyc says 34) Tall garg - skill level 19: 305 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 20: 95 fails, 6 success (5.9%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 36 (encyc says 36) Wingless garg - skill level 21: 201 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 22: 189 fails, 4 succ (2.1%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 38 (encyc says 38) Puma - skill level 23: 248 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 24: 248 fails, 7 success (2.8%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 40 (encyc says 40) Female gob - skill level 24: 232 fails, 0 succ (0.0%) ... level 25: 211 fails, 8 success (3.7%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 41 (encyc says 41) Polar bear - skill level 26: 275 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 27: 268 fails, 7 success (2.6%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 43 (encyc says 40) Black bear - skill level 28: 228 fails, 0 success (0.0%) ... level 29: 202 fails, 8 success (3.8%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 45 (encyc says 45) Male armed gob - skill lvl 30: 259 fails, 0 succ (0.0%) ... level 31: 236 fails, 10 succ (4.1%) conclusion: actual recommended level is 47 (encyc says 47) I wasn't willing to test summons that required more expensive ingredients. When I had nexus and tested I found loss rate very high even accounting for astro (also did with good astro). You do get occasional extra summons but that does not make up for experience lost.
