SunriseCoder's Tank Building Guide

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I got one idea today after yesterday's epic fail of n00b instance :) We was need a tank. Very smart and strong and toughness tank.

My idea is build tank using less att exp and a lot of def exp :) My priority is less of attack.

I will update this main post during I will build my char. If you want to follow this guide and build new char - please re-read game rules and especially rule #5.

You follow this guide without any warranty and on your own risk :) I don't know game such as creators, and I can give stupid advices, but I think, I will build good tank :)

My new char is called Tanker, I will not turn privacy on, so you can watch him >> HERE << or in-game just type:

/mercator about Tanker

Please remember, this page info updates not in real time.

Ok, let's start:

  1.
  2. Choose your way:
    1. Most cheapest way is training with leather set + steel/titanium chainmail + Red Dragon Helm of Life and Mana + steel shield.
    2. Training leather set + Steel Plates + Red Dragon Helm of Life and Mana (after break, buy Crown of Life) + steel shield + NMT perk
    3. Full Steel Set (or Titanium Cuisses and Greaves) + Crown of Life + NMT perk.
    4. Full Steel Set (or Titanium Cuisses and Greaves) + Crown of Life + NMT cape.

1-st way is more cheapest, but less advantages.
2-nd way is better, because steel plates give you -2 accuracy and +13-15 armor, so you can fight with more stronger monsters than 1-st way.
3-rd way is more better, allow you to fight more stronger monsters than 2-nd way.
4-rd way is very hardcore for make money for it, but most worth and will save you 7 pickpoints to attributes.

If you choose 2-nd way or more - don't forget about Rostogol Stone, because disconnect can give to monsters time for kill you and deny you to heal.

You can also start fight with 1-st way armor and continue harvesting for money after you get Defense 26 and monsters in some mines/caves will ignore you.

  3. When you just born, go to Wraith and buy Physique for all your pickpoints (you should to get 9 pickpoints).

  4. Then go to harvesting Vegetables so much as you can (I recommend you harvesting Vegetabless until harvesting 13).
During harvesting buy Physique for your new pickpoints. You will need a lot of Physique for being a tank earn money.
You can sell Vegetables to Tavern for 0.5 gc each. It's not much, but it will be enough for books or armor.
Don't forget to Heal. NPC Tutorial will heal you until your attack 20. You can get harvesting 13 just harvesting vegetables 2 hours only (240 Vegetables).

  5. Finally, you have Harvesting 13, Overall 14 = 14 Physique, 220 EMU and 55 HP.
Time to earn some money. There is a lot of ways to make money, but I recommend to do Fire Essences.
For Fire Essences (FE) we need to harvesting some Sulfur. It's dangerous mineral to harvesting,
because there is harvesting events, which can make damage up to 35-40 HP. It means, you should not
start to harvesting sulfur if you have less than 40 HP.
What to do? Now time for start healing yourself. Easier way is buy 2 Sigils
and a pack of Health Essences (HE) and cast spell 'Heal' for restore 10 Health Points (HP).
Harvesting and sell any plants until you have 1100 Gold Coins (gc) for Sigils and 100-200 gc for Health
Don't forget to harvesting Vegetables each hour, I've got Harvesting 16 and Overall 16 while harvested for sell.

  6. Buy Sigils in White Stone Magic shops for spell 'Heal', buy HEs and
start harvesting ingredients for Fire Essences.

  7. Take Physique 20 (60 HP max), Sigils and HEs and go for harvesting ings for FEs.
Make 1000 Fire Essences now and sell them to any bot not cheaper than 4 gc each.
I recommend you to haul all ings to storage and use cooked meat for mixing.
When I mixed this essences - I got Day of Joule (no food need for FEs), but
you can buy cooked meat from bots or on market channel.
I've made 2 Enriched Fire Essences while mixing this 1k FEs and I will sell them later.

  8. Buy Excavator Cape in White Stone City for 2900 gc.

  9. Make 1000 Fire Essences else. Sell them to bot too.

  10. Buy books in Naralik for Iron and Silver Mining, Iron Smelting
(and all required for them books too).

  11. Buy Book of Health Essence (and following books for prerequestice)

  12. Start to read all that books. While books are reading - you can do next steps.

  13. Prepare to harvesting marathon. Now you should to harvesting a lot of stuff.
Don't forget to buy physique for your new pickpoints for more EMU. You will need
to harvesting following stuff only, don't mix it. If you want more EMU - you can
harvesting nightshades each start of hour, then after 120 harvest exp limit you
can back to your ings. You can also doing Xaquelina's and Kaleb's dailies, buying
dung with money, which Xaquelina will give you for her quest. Less money, but more exp.
More exp = higher harvesting level = higher overall level = more pickpoints = more physique = more emu.

  14. Buy few Perks for more pickpoints and use them for more physique.
You can get Power Hungry, I Can't Dance, Gelatine Bones and Godless.
Don't worry, you will remove them in future. You can get 22 pickpoints = 220 EMU with these perks :)

UPD 2011-08-15. I got good idea now. Don't buy this perks or do reset right now if you got any negative perks. You can try to do it without reset, but I've already bought that perks so I will need to do reset.

At this point I got Full Physique (48) and now I have 520 EMU. I will spread next pickpoints to Coordination

UPD 2011-08-15. Don't worry, take Full Physique anyway. Don't buy any Coordination after Full Physique.
Try to buy Full Instinct after Full Physique.

  15. Let's start with harvesting ingridients for Fire Essences.
I think, should be enough ingredients for 7k Fire Essences:
7k Red Roses, 7k Red Snapdragons, 7k Sulfur.
Here I got day of Alexey Stakhanov and harvested all day night shades. Got few addititional pickpoints.

  16. Buy Inorganic Nexus 2 and Monster Magnetism Perk. It will need you for harvesting Silver and Iron.

  17. At this point you can harvesting 1k Silver Ore and 500 Chrysanthemums and mix Health Essences with it.
Don't worry about a lot of losts, but I hope you can make few hundreds successful and a bit Alchemy exp.

  18. Go to Tarsengaard Magic School naked (because Armed goblins in Tarsengaard) and find Hyitan. He will offer you to do Hyitan's pie quest. Harvest all ingredients for his quest and put them to storage. You can do next steps while waiting for Magic day. If you finally catch Magic day - go back Hyitan and tell him for you are done - he will give you 80k magic and 40k Potion experience. If you will finish his quest in Ordinary day - you will get only 40k Magic and 40k Potion exp. After this quest you can buy Sigils for Restoration spell. It more useful than Heal.

  19. Then harvest 10k Coal.

  20. Now harvest 20k Iron Ore. I hope you already read appropriative book
I know, what do you think about me, but I hope, it will worth it.

UPD 2011-09-02. Heh, unfortunally, it was my fault. At first, it's a nightmare to harvesting this tons of ingridients, then big nightmare to mix Iron and Steel bars with 200 emu. More over, it's only 122k+142k=264k exp, and mixing 3.6k Health essences can give you same result.

  21. While harvesting Iron Ore if you will be bored - you can switch to collect stuff for Aluwen and Unolas gods serve. I just collected 1k Coal and 1k Rose quartz, and other stuff bought for 15kgc total.
UPD 2011-09-02. Do Gods' quest anyway, look about Iron ore a bit back.

  22. After collection all stuff come to god's priests and give them your stuff.

  23. Finally, harvest 3k Chrysanthemums and 6k Silver Ore.
I hope, silver mining book has done.
UPD 2011-09-02. I've harvested ings for 5k HEs, but if you don't want to mix Iron and Steel bars, but you want to start training with strong monsters - you can harvesting ings for 10k HEs or more. It's depends of your patience. Anyway, you will use them for training in future. And few days of harvesting will allow you to forget about making HEs for few months.

  24. If you bought any perks or any attributes except Physique, Instinct or Vitality - time to do reset. After reset buy full physique, then full instinct, then vitality. Look a bit below for more information about what you need to get while harvesting.

  25. Time to Start mixing.
If you will catch day of Joule - mix entire day and you can save a lot of food. Don't worry about losts. You will have a lot of fails and losts, but don't worry, it worth it. When you will have first 12 free pickpoints - use them for Physique. You will need 200 EMU for mix. You can take more, but you will get less instinct in future.

  26. Mix Fire Essences firstly. While mixing you will need first time few hundreds of Cooked meat as food. Try to don't sell any Fire Essences, because you will need them for bars. Try to earn money with harvesting or make few Health Essences for sell.

  27. Then mix Health Essences
Better to mix HEs with Potion of Feasting (FP) as food. Try to make 1-2 hundreds of HEs, then sell them, then buy more FPs for this money. Finally, you can make 2k HEs, 1k sell and have a lot of FPs.

  28. Finally, mix 1k Iron Bars, then 1k Steel Bars.
You will not need that bars, so you can sell then when you make a little party for buy more FPs.
At this point don't buy too much FPs and try to be out of them when you will finish mixing Steel Bars.
UPD 2011-09-02. If you don't harvested ings for it - time to smile and have a little break :)

  29. Now time to buy equipment. Buy following equipment for your way. Some flood about them:

Red Dragon Helm of Life and Mana for +170 Health Points (HP) and +40 Mana Points (MP). When your helm will be broken, I hope, you will have enough money and Human 5 for buy Crown of Life.
Steel Plate Mail - for good armor and less Accuracy (-2 accuracy).
Steel Shield - for Defense +7 and Accuracy -2.
Steel or Titanium Cuisses - Don't matter between them, so you can buy any of them as you wish.
Steel or Titanium Greaves - Don't matter between them, so you can buy any of them as you wish. But if you can buy Steel Greaves of Uber Defense - it will be very useful training on couple of monsters, but not good idea use them without 'No More Tears' cape or perk.
Fast Regeneration or No More Tears cape - you can get No More Tears perk for first time if you don't want to earn so much money for NMT cape, but if you can - you can save 7 Pickpoints and it will be very nice. But if you will buy NMT perk - you will need to buy NMT removal stone when you will buy cape, and this stone you can buy in EL shop only for real money.
Unicorn Medallion - for Defense +4
No Weapon - but if you have very lagging Internet connection, you will need Orc Slayer or Frying Pan for kill monsters if you will disconnect.

ok, chose your Targets and start to make money with Harvesting and Alchemy. You can buy Antisocial Perk for 10 pickpoints, but if you have not good friends - it can make some problems for you. Also you can buy Skeptic perk for don't wait until your attack and accuracy astro will down to negative for start training.

  30. Yahoo!!! Finally!!! We can start to fight.

At this moment I've got Physique 16, Instinct 24, There is not Forks, Evancense perk, Skeptic perk, Antisocial.

Take your armor, MM cloak, RDHOLAM, 10 Rings of Disengagement and HEs+SRs (1 SRs for 4-5 HEs) and go to Naralik.
Stay on Center or map and wait until first Male Goblin will come to you.
Try to attack him, then flee. Be careful, if you will get much damage - use Ring of Disengagement for stop fight.
If you can resist to goblin, you can change MM cape to Fast Regeneration cape on you. Wait for some goblins will join for attack you.

Stay on Male Goblins until Defense 21

I made Defense 21 in 12 minutes, at levels 7-10 I hold 1 goblin on me, then 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. And when I was Defense 15, I had 6 goblins on me, it was very nice exp. I made few screenshots, may be I will publish them a bit later.

  31. Unfortunally, I haven't found nice spawn for next levels. I can't found multicombat safe area, so you will have to fight in non-multicombat area (or PM me if you found one).

Stay on Skeletons or Tall Winged Gargoyle until Defense 26

You can find Skeletons in Portland Titanium cave top level. Don't downstairs to second levels, because Armed Skeletons there can kill you easy. Unfortunately, some players can get daily quest for kill Skeletons, but you need only 1 Skeleton for training.

Gargoyles can be found in Tarsengaard Gargoyle cave, but be careful and don't confuse it with PK cave.

It can take a lot of time, so try both ways and choose best of them for you.

You've got the general idea for a tank build, but right now, your pretty much doing it wrong. To start off don't add PP's in 2's or 1's... always have attributes in 4's ie. 4/8/12/16/20/24/28/32/36/40/44/48. If not, you cross attributes would never be even (add 1 PP into something and watch your cross attributes, they will not change, adding 2 will only raise them by 1, but 4 will raise them by 2 benefiting you the most.)

Take your character for example. As of right now, you have 26 Phys, and your cross attributes are all 15. If you had 24 or 28, they would be even, benefiting you more.

tanker

Main Attributes

Physique: 26/26

Coordination: 4/4

Reasoning: 4/4

Will: 4/4

Instinct: 4/4

Vitality: 4/4

Cross Attributes

Might: 15/15

Matter: 15/15

Toughness: 15/15

Charm: 4/4

Reaction: 4/4

Rationality: 4/4

Dexterity: 4/4

Ethereality: 4/4

Perception: 4/4

next, you have to much phys for your levels, and no instinct or vitality. Physique helps you absorb and DO more damage while raising your EMU and health, Instinct helps you dodge hits more, and vitality raises your mana and helps absorb more dmg.

=================================================================================================

With that being said, it's much faster to flee train on monsters with high instinct and relatively low phys to start. I wouldnt recommend having anymore phys while your on a monster than you normally would with any other build, at least until trolls or ogres but still not recomended imo because of crit hits. I have made a couple def build chars and the fastest way i did this is:

First off, Defence and Magic Gods are your friend, the earlier you get them the better. Also at any time if you wish to wear anything more than augs be my guest, but i wouldnt get any higher than 5 human (steel set and col) or 2 human, but once again its up to you. An easy way to get PP other than training def would be alchemy, which i recommend doing if you get bored with training, or simply for the oa levels.

Perks that you should take: There is no fork, Evanescence. Once again, the sooner the better, but definetaly before ogres (dont NEED them for fem orcs, but it does help). An easy way to get PP other than training def would be alchemy, which i recommend doing if you get bored with training.

1. start new character, harvest vegies/train rats until you have a total of 20 OA, and dump them into instinct. (24 inst)

2. Continue getting oa's until you have 8 more pp and place them into phys, and start flee training wolves with augs on. (12/24 phys/inst)

3. at this point you can flee train wolves for quite a while, until you can move onto large spiders (TG magic school secret spider cave is best) and flee train them until you have 12 more PP, in which time i would place 8 into inst, and the other 4 in phys (16/32/4 phys/inst)

4. now you are ready for the fastest bit of your training, fem orcs (best place would be votd temple). Take some def pots with you just in case you get more than 1 or 2 of them on you, and watch teh exp fly. you should be able to get 12-16 PP easy while there, depending on how long you want to stay. Now place 8 of those PP into vitality, and 4 into phys. (20/32/12 phys/inst/vit)

5. here you should be around 45 def or so, depending on how long you stayed on fem orcs. Go train on trolls (best place is carmien manor where there is a 4x spawn, and multi them all day.) you should get 8-12 PP at this time, once again depending on how long you stay. place 4 into phys, and teh rest into instinct. (24/36/12 phys/inst/vit)

6. This is the easiest part, you should be around 55 def at this time, so head on to male ogres (best place is Palon Vertas blacksmith cave where it is multi) and train them past armed orcs and even cyclops if you wanted. You should have 16-20 PP at this time, dependent on how long you stayed. place 8PP into inst, 4 into phys, and 4 into vit. (28/44/16 phys/inst/vit)

7. Your around 70 or so def, so go to cyclops (best place would be egratia point where there are 6 of them on one map) and multi them if you have not trained past them while on ogres until ~80 def. Stay until you get 12 PP and move to fluffs (the only reason why i wouldnt stay longer is clops break a lot of armor, and crit like crazy, so not the best monster to def train on.) Put 4 pp into inst, and the other 8 into phys. (36/48/16 phys/inst/vit)

8. Now your around 80 def, go to fluffies and have fun with all the exp you see constantaly floating above your head (cave on your way to hydro has 2 fluffs, or the one in thelinor with 2, but you could also try getting one of the 2 in SKF on the inside or outside of manor, all of which are mutli.) should have ~8-12 PP, place all 8 into vit. (36/48/16 phys/inst/vit)

9. This is the best/most boring part... Move onto feros now that your ~95 def (best and really only place you should go is the feros cave in bethel, thats mutli and if your on at the right time, empty for ~8 hours.) Here you can/should train to 120's defence. i would tell you what to put the PP's into, but by now, you get the idea. It also wouldnt be a bad idea to start saving your PP for the transition (if you even want to), to a normal build and start getting atk exp.

The idea of this build is to never hit (no coordination or reasoning) and always dodge (instinct), but always absorb the hits that you do take (physique and vitality), recieving the least amount of damage. There are other ways of making a tank build char, such as high coord/inst/vit (with that build you also hit so your a/d gap wont be as large) Hope this guide helps you build your char up more sunrise, and anyone else that maybe thought of doing one.

Yes chris is right.

The problem with high might (obtained through physique) is that it means your crit to hits will be large enough to cause damage to the mob, and therefore give you attack exp. With a might that normally cannot penetrate the mob's armor/toughness you would have to roll a crit to hit AND a crit to damage on the same round to do damage.

EDIT: Also, reading chris's guide, there are other spots you don't mention. Melinis has several fluffy spawns which you can lure on to yourself and multi them all. For feros there are several (4?) spawns in north redmoon, you can lure there. There are also feros in thelinor which you can lure to store, and train there, healing yourself and them, withdrawing the essies from sto. Beware of PK etc.

i'm sure there are other good spots but i only mentioned the spots that i found easiest with the most monsters. I did this build on the Pk server where spawns are always open, and got to 69 def in only 2 weeks of training.

and iirc there are only 2 feros in nrm, unless ofc more have been added since i last played fully

Heh, I see, discussion start being more hot :)

Well, I will open to you secret, but a bit later :)

I need to earn a lot of money for start highest difference between attack and defense levels.

Finally, I have read ChrisC's guide and you are right :) I have same idea, but I need some money for start.

I need to get high difference between attack and defence from first levels - it's easy and difficult.

Easy - I can get so fast 10-20 def levels, and I can easy training on monsters with 20/20 or 25/25 and I will not hit them.

But I have one question: Why better to use 4 PPs at once instead of 2? They works in pair = 2 PPs.

I also want to see what you will train on at 48/6 p/c and 7/7 a/d.

Anything you can get def exp from at 7 def, you'll kill in one hit, resulting in very slow leveling.

You should really just focus on training a/d first and later worry about carry capacity and money making. Low level training is not expensive, you'd do fine with augs and a shield, using heal spell and drinking mana potions.

EDIT:

But I have one question: Why better to use 4 PPs at once instead of 2? They works in pair = 2 PPs.

Many cross-attributes are believed to work best in multiples of 2, 3 or 4. The clearest example here would be Rationality, which is divided by 2, 3 and 4 to get the experience bonus for mixing, combat and ranging, respectively.

So in the case of Rationality, you would not increase all the exp bonuses at the same time unless you increase it by 12 at once.

The exact effects of other cross-attributes aren't so clear, but they might also work best in similar multiples.

EDIT 2:

As for getting mostly defense exp and very little attack exp, you could just optimize your gear for high defense bonuses and attack penalties.

For example battle hammers have a lot of accuracy and critical penalties, but also defense penalties, so you need a good shield and some instinct along with them.

The key here is to try different combinations for a while and look in the session counters to see how much your att:def exp ratio was.

And on higher levels, training multiple monsters at once helps a lot.

Thank you very much for your advices :)

Ok, I planning to do reset after fill supplies. I got physique at first for not die after 2-3 harvesting event like radon pouch or cavern collapse.

Then I will get more coordination as possible. Primary target is get much EMU for harvesting. When I will get all stuff - I will do reset and will start to mixing FEs, then HEs, then bars. I will get a lot of pickpoints, will buy 20-28 instinct (depends of quantity of my PPs free after reset) and will start to training. By the way, now I have 560 EMU :)

I thought about leather set, but may be I will try to buy steel chainmail and steel shield, but best for training as tank is steel plates.

I don't know what I will be use, because I don't want to get human nexuses at first levels... I will need so much as I can get instincts.

what i always wore was FR cape (great for healing health/mana when you have low emu from only phys and no coord), steel chain, aug pants, leather boots, and col, but ofc i had the nmt perk. i used that set-up up to ogres until i got steel set. but tbh bronze set would be ideal because it gives higher armor and lower accuracy meaning you'll have less of a chance to hit creating a higher a/d gap. i believe i was 32/69 a/d on ogres, with 24/36/12 p/i/v, evanescence, tinf, nmt perks, and full magic and def gods.

Bronze plates gives -1 accuracy, but steel plates gives -2 accuracy. May be useful only bronze shield, -2 accuracy and defence +8

How much chance to break bronze set?

Looks like you haven't worked on Tanker in a while, but if you do I don't think you really need to #reset. Remove the points you have in coordination and start building instinct. Buy some defense and instinct pots, equip a pick and try to flee train some deer, moving on to wolves/gobs when appropriate. Put all your pp into instinct until you have ~16 reaction. The pick will keep you from hitting the mobs too much, so the excessive damage you'll be dealing shouldn't be too much of an issue. Your physique will keep mobs high for your a/d level from hurting you much. Your xp/min will be pretty bad as long as you have to keep potting up your defense to counter-act the pick, but will greatly improve once you get up to where u can actually train on wolves/goblins easily. May or may not be worth the extra effort to not throw away the oa's.

Ah I stand corrected on the crit-to-hits. I did not consider those in my thoughts, was just trying to provide an alternative since i hate resetting, even at low levels :).

I have reviewed guide a bit and add next steps.

I think, I was not right about negative perks and reset, so very funny possible to do without reset, but I need it for remove negative perks and remove 4 coordination. But I will calculate much more about this and may be buy removal stones will be better for me... but it's so very much money :( but 2 EFEs will help me a bit :)

About next time - I will get full physique at first for more emu for make money. I can't put real money to game and I think, it is not interesting for many players.

But also my strategy will allow to get a lot of Harvesting, Alchemy and Overall exp levels.

Of course one trouble will be with SRs - so I can't make them by myself and I will need to buy them always.

Another problem is I can't make money by drops and my common drops will became 'rare', because I will training with very strong monsters with flees, and will kill them too rare, but I will need a lot of HEs and SRs, so I will need to harvesting and mixing and sell something for money always.

Of course, I hope, when I will taking a part in Instances, we will divide all drops as equal parts, but I need to get defense 100 or so first.

For full physique at first I will need 44 pps only = 34 pps + antisocial :) It's easy with making 1k Iron bars.

But next 44 pps will be hellish hardly and hellish boring for earning, but I can buy full instincts and sell goods for a lot of money. I didn't calculated it, but I hope, it should be enough for steel set + rdholam + CoL. Possible will be to buy NMT cape and steel greaves of uber defense, but I'm not sure, it costs too much.

But when I will buy all stuff and full phys + instinct, I can start with very strong monsters (I hope) :) It can be even Male Goblin (his attack 28) vs me with 7/7 a/d :) And it should be a tons of exp. After defense 20, I think, I can switch to gargs or even armed skeletons, but most worth will be hobgoblins as n00b monsters. Then Trolls, then Ogres, but I'm not sure about trolls, because they have not much defense (60/25 a/d) - so I can get a lot of att exp :(

Hardly to think so long in future, only hardcore practice will show truth or my point of view.

Are you sure? :) look at date of first post and this, and compare them. I've used all this time for harvesting few hours every day and already mixed 7k FEs and 2.3k HEs.

People says, what Eva perk is ultimate tank's perk, but I'm not sure... I need to check it in fight. About PowerHungry I can say - it's only 3 PPs, but very annoying for me. Antisocial - I think, very much players have this perk, but if you have a friends, who haven't this perk - you can take it and ask them for buy stuff from NPC. Another way - you can buy stuff from bots, they are usually make +10-15% benefits for them, but 10 pickpoints is very good :)

According to wiki: Since attributes are divided by 2, 3 or 4 when used, the best value for pickpoints on each attribute is 12, 24, 36 or 48. The second best values is 6, 18, 30, 42 and the third best is any value dividable by 4 (4, 8, 12, 16, etc.) and the fourth best is even values, and last and the very worst is to have attributes with odd values.
