New windows client for people that have problems

Recommended Posts

I compiled a Windows client using no optimisation and i386 code, so it *should* work for anyone.

http://www.gregoryfenton.org.uk/elc-386.exe

save it to your new EL folder, and run it from there instead of el.exe

Hope it helps someone

Sorry about the presence of the console window, can't get rid of the blasted thing :/

Edit: put it on a faster site

elc-386-no_GL_EXTENSION_CHECK-debug.exe

edit: forgot the www. bit :/

If there is no error log to post, I am assuming that Windows didn't even properly start the application..

I guess it might be a Windows problem (bad dll? some virus? some antivirus?)

Ok, can you check the amount of memory you have available? You can do that pressing ctrl+alt+del

Can you close ALL the applications you have open, and try again, all of the clients?

i tried it with the anti virus and firewall down as well. I don't seem to have any other problems with the computer. Also, I was able to start the old client no problems. Hmmm...at first I simply renamed my Eternal Lands folder and then installed the new stuff into a fresh Eternal Lands folder. When I first got this problem, I went back and deleted everything, including the new client, redownloaded and installed. I uninstalled and redownloaded/installed a second time before posting anything. Could I have some garbage in the registry from previous versions?

The EL client doesn't write to the registry

Ok, this is for the programmers only:

Can you write a detailed log (using DEBUG) that writes down in a log all the stuff, like ok, we just started the client (in main() ), we are trying to load the data, we are trying to connect to the server, etc?

Np, we'll get to the cause of that, eventually.

Too bad that no one that has this problem is a programmer, it could have helped a lot..
