Eternal Limericks!

Recommended Posts

I think they all should be in a book as is. Limericks are supposed to be funny, and these do apply to EL as EL IS, as players can relate to it.

EL is not just about roleplaying, moderators and bags and game mechanics and players with names are very much a part of it, as are debates over them :(

I think players would get MUCH more entertainment out of a mixed bag of limericks :)

Annatira, I love your moderator rhymes, but I don't think an official poem should have moderator and EL in it
:):P

The criticisms are a bit odd.

It's like, people are asked to write limericks about amphibians

You later come in and say you are compiling a book on eastern green tree frogs, and then proceed to criticise peoples poems because they aren't enough about eastern green tree frogs.

If you wanted a bunch of poems on eastern green tree frogs, you should have started a thread :P I think the purpose of this thread was just a bit of fun, not yet another series on the life and times of Mortos and Selain in limerick form. :)

Ribbit.

As far as I can tell the purpose of this thread was indeed in fun, and people wrote some great limericks, regardless of their content, and did a great job putting the thread to use!

My only point is that story-lines are story-lines in my mind, and there is a distinct difference to me between the game world, and the story world, as was debated somewhat in the topic over the changes to the curse of Mortos idea (see here). And Personally, I think that the official stories should fit the story world, the 'real' world of EL doesn't have moderators around to help everyone and weed out troublemakers, the only similarity would perhaps be the gods, which was why I asked if Anna could work on altering hers if she felt like.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with poems about moderators and people, and all that stuff, they're great, I'm not criticizing at all :pirate: at least not what I would consider criticizing.

Annatira, I love your moderator rhymes, but I don't think an official poem should have moderator and EL in it
:medieval::)

Forgive me, my wording was a bit off there :), it does sound silly now that I read it. All I meant was as I stated above, I have a belief that stories should be stories and game mechanics should not intrude upon that 'realistic' world. Which is certainly simply my opinion, its been made apparent others think otherwise. :)

If you wanted a bunch of poems on eastern green tree frogs, you should have started a thread :) I think the purpose of this thread was just a bit of fun, not yet another series on the life and times of Mortos and Selain in limerick form. :P

My apologies, if you consider my post an intrusion upon this thread's purpose. It was simply my way of requesting permission of the limerick's authors to use them, while encouraging others to write more rhymes. Perhaps in the future I shall contact the authors privately so as not to derail the intended purpose of the thread. :)

All I'm doing, is trying to make use of some of these rhymes for a fun compilation, everyone can read all of them here, yet I thought a group of them would be interesting as a Draian Book of Rhymes, that fit the storyline world. When I make my post in the poems section I'll be sure to link back to this thread, so that all the rhymes can be read, not only the ones which fit the story-line world.

I just really like to keep story-lines, story-lines, and many people disagree with me on to what degree that should be done, even other writers, its simply a matter of opinions, to which we are each entitled, and if a specific author wants to contact me and argue for their limerick to be part of a Draian Book of Rhymes, feel free! :D

There's obviously some differences of opinions here, so I'd better chat with Roja and see what her opinion on all this is, and if I should include all the rhymes :mace:

Well if you actually read the Official Songs, Ballads, & Poems section, it is filled with EL stuff such as deathbags, newbies, channels, beam, names, etc etc etc. VERY good writings that should stay included.

I'm not sure why you are trying to rule all that out now.

You're right, there are many of those things indeed, and many great writings.

What I had in mind for a Draian Book of Rhymes I was going to introduce from a roleplaying stand point and have it be a book from the Draian world, like what children would read, about bears and goblins and other such fun rhymes.

However, it seems at least a few people feel that the rest deserve to be part of it too, and maybe they do! They're well written. :)

I'm afraid my intentions have been misjudged, most of my comments were simply in reference to a compilation of what would be a book from the 'real' draian world, which I failed to make completely clear.

I suppose I simply have to reconsider what my purpose with these is, and see what some others think as well. :medieval:

I understood what you meant, I just don't think it is the best way to go.

Limericks are fun, not stuffy and formal like you write for the histories of Draia as a "real" world. It is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

That may be fine for a history, but if you want players to be interested and involved, you have to loosen up and let them read and write what appeals to them.

In my not so humble opinion as a former linguist/english/multiple foreign languages major/writer, a book should capture a reader's interest and be able to keep it. If it can't do that, it's not worth the writing. You really have to know and target your desired audience.

(Heck, spleenie's limerick even caught korrode's attention and he's not involved generally in the story section at all!) (no offense korrode! :) )

I completely understand what you're saying, and thank you for bringing it up :)

As I stated, I believe I just need to reevaluate my intended purpose for these limericks, get the opinions of an assortment of that audience you mentioned, and find out what the best way to go is :medieval:

It's alarming, how little I had to change this song.

Blantly stolen from the Irish, Tom Smith, and Coryn

As I went home on Monday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw a mule outside the door where my old mule should be

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me

Who is that mule outside the door where my old mule should be?

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

still you can not see

That's a lovely deer that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But a deer that carries SRs sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Tuesday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw a MM cape behind the door where my old cape should be

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me

Who owns that cape behind the door where my old cape should be

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

still you can not see

That's a lovely green tunic that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But tunic that scared ogres away sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Wednesday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw a BRoD up on the chair where my old BRoD should be

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me

Who owns that BRoD up on the chair where my old BRoD should be

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

still you can not see

That's a lovely green snake skin me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But snake skins that degrades your CoL sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Thursday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw leather boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me

Who owns them boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

still you can not see

They're two lovely Brown Fabrics that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But laces on a Brown Fabric sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Friday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw a Rosto by the bed where my old stone should be

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me

Who owns that rosto by the bed where my old stone should be

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

still you can not see

That's a lovely diamond that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But a diamond that doesn't stack sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Saturday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw two MCs on the floor where my old MCs should be

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me

Who owns them Matter Conglomarates? They don't belong to me

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

still you can not see

That's a lovely cabbage that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But cabbage that weighs in at half a ton sure I never saw before

As I went home on Sunday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw a mine under the bed, where one just should not be

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me

Who put that mine there over there? Are you trying to get rid of me?

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

still you can not see

That's a lovely Fire Essence that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But an FE with a detonator sure I never saw before

[edit: 2 extra verse, or 1 alternate ending verses. Based mostly on Tom Smith]

As I went home on Sunday night as drunk as drunk could be

I saw a nine foot humanoid a-looming over me

Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Who the blazes is that?

Ah, you're drunk,

you're drunk you silly old fool,

but now I think you'll see

That's a Male Armed Orc whose fell in love with me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But running in Eternal Lands I never saw before

Now I'm sitting in VoTD tavern

As drunk as drunk could be

And I'm grateful all my armor is still attached to me

Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred maps or more

But if I ever look at an avatar again - hey, whose that char by the door?

Pyewacket, both of yours are great but brendal is the name of an ingame player is it not? Was the poem specifically talking about him, or was that just a chance matching of names? I'd like to use the first one with Idalor however, with your permission.

permission granted and I can guarantee it was mere whimsical chance and happenstance that Brendals name cropped up to match my limerick. The fact I have him in my guild and am willing to pay people to pk him is entirely coincidental. Honest. No really. heh. :)

jus one that popped to mind this morning..lol..

When I woke up this morning in storage

And poured out my vegetable porridge

I wondered about the clothing to wear

I might go as bold to wear nothing at all

But just didn’t find the courage..

It takes quite a bunch of good notion

To add to the game a new potion

Too bad - overkill

and ruining one's skill

You deal with mad players emotions

Like normal I train by the hour

Slowly increasing my power

I suddenly lag

Die dropping a bag

Of corse lost all but a flower

Not much xp needed to lvl my pot

The ores I need are in my favorite spot

Wow this makes me sick

"Ores require a pick?"

Came all this way and forgot

Started about a weeks back

Finished EL, how 'bout that?

I expected more features

And more than 4 creatures

Whats that? Theres more than 1 map?

Was gone a min while using the john

I was here first, so please just move on

I hope you just might

find a new place to fight

and GOD DAMMIT STOP SERPING MY SPAWN

Limmerics and EL are difficult to me

Lost my thought when I autowalked into a tree

I guess this limerick will end at line three

Very nice, JJk, and welcome back

This one is a bit meloncholic..but I'm sure some of you will know what i mean by it..enjoy  If you read it with your heart you will find pieces of the el community in it..

as time fades away in the Land that i love

I sit by the water, see eagles above

and can't help but wonder

because there up a yonder

could be the one that I love

at night when the sun leaves

both the moon and myself greeves

I can't help but think

could there be a link

between ficton and make-believes

if that is the case

then life is a race

between lovers and dreamers and those who just live

the reward in the end is not what one gives

but the smile on the dreamers face..

Kisses and Hugs filled my chatlog

but the Dragon was stronger

and the man was no longer

now my love's out of sight in the fog..

*** The shadows in the mist ***

In the mist i sees you dancing

Memories strokes back, a walk in pale moonshine

Never we was afraid a mysterie exploring

Gratefull I am for you handed me your time

Beleave me some things just never leaves ones heart

In the fog i still sees things manifested massively

On that beach i now, prints my view over ocean

Carriad in the mist i still sees you dancing

*** The pillow of clouds ***

Proud and strong as noone else i sees you

The things which takes shape in any size

You with a magic stroke pets to pure bless

The demanding crowd takes nest with you

You finds time and space where such not are

Love and tenderly care you most willing hands out

My life you filled with light and conformable joy

I ask myself is this something i can ever repay enough

The pillow of clouds to me you are Blossom :)

Once in a land made eternal

Lived a leopard who was mostly nocturnal

He'd stalk the land

Whether green or of sand

and write his kills in his journal.
