Yay for skeptic!

Recommended Posts

Just before I paid the 30k for the skeptic perk, I attempted to make 20 empty vials. at a crafting level of 17, i crit 11 times, so it was 45% success rate.

I bought skeptic

Attempted another 20 vials as a test. 19 successes... Enough said.

I'd hate skeptic for high-level mixing. I'm too dependent on the bonus of good astro for mixing things above my level.

Maybe I spoke too soon.

Now that I'm home and comfortable, I gathered resources for 50 vials, and crit on 15 of them. So for ingredients for 50, I failed 32 times, crit 15 time, stopped twice, and yielded 35 vials.

My crafting is lvl 18, and the ency states 14 is the recommended level. Would it happen to be a typo? Could it maybe be lvl 20 recommended and the encyclopedia is wrong? Was my 19 vial yield from earlier just a fluke?

I can say, without a doubt, I'm very frustrated.

Third session test:

Potion of Spirit Restoration

Material for 40 pots.  8 crits, 14 failures.  20% critical failure rate.

Same potion

Material for 20 pots. 6 crits, 14 failures. 30% critical failure rate.

Utilized potion of potion, base 25 + 5.  Started as lvl30.  Are the pots broken perhaps? Perhaps it calculates astro ignoring the perk?  I will post more results later.

The recommended levels in the encyclopedia do not indicate the level you need to be successful most of the time. IIRC you have a ~50% chance to successfully mix an item if you are at the recommended level (or maybe it's a 50% chance of crit failing, can't remember exactly).

Don't expect a near 100% success rate until ~28 levels over the recommended.

Also don't use empty vials to level crafting. Polishing sapphires is also level 14 and gives double the base experience.

However at your level you should stick to make silver amulets only 5 less base experience then vials and recommended are 9 level below. So should give a lot better yield and thus also a lot more experience - since you only get experience when you succeed to craft an item.

You need alot of silver medallions to make alot of moon medallions that many use to level crafting with.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm not crafting vials for xp, but rather for my own uses making potions. I rather get xp obtaining vials than merely buying them. It has really saved me loads of time being able to punch out some quick vials without shopping for them. I will take the suggestions on the sanding. I've been doing it already but find it expensive with all the gem grinding I have to buy. The IP rings will be collecting dust in storage.

You know the polished gems can be sold to a NPC ?

Some players buy them too for Engineering.

But to level Crafting making vials is nice, I have made some 100k vials but with much higher level and I make only with good astro.

The astro : I like it because I make the expensive items with good astro, with bad astro essences and other ckeaper/lower level items.

As far as I know do good astro give 5 levels extra.
