Did you always want to be an all arounder?

Recommended Posts

When I first started I actually wanted to be a fighter. Not a pker, but I wanted to train mobs. After a while of doing a little mixing in alch and manu I got hooked on being a mixer. A friendly competition with an ex-guildie to see who could get to manu 40 first and it quickly became my favorite skill. With time having past and getting bored of mountains of leather helms I've moved on to training other skills and try to actively train them all to one extent or another. (I'm also kinda OCD in that I want to be able to make every item in game)

So what about you? Did you always want to be an all arounder? If not, what drew you towards being an all skill leveler?

When I first started playing.. I wanted to be a mage only.. then the crash happened, and we had to start our characters all over..

That's where I came up with the goal that I need to level all my skills up to at least level 20. Now I'm working on getting the last two up to 30.. then I'll probably work on getting them to 40 :)

I started as an all-arounder simply because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do - so I worked on it all. Slowly over time I started to drop stuff. Summoning was first (didn't want to use a PP on the nexus, and you can only get so far on rabbits and rats). Other skills got less focus as I stopped leveling them and only worked them to make materials for other skills (like alching bars for crafting). Whatever specialization I have now is in-part a simple process of elimination.

I like being able to do stuff... Variety and all that. So having the skills to make whatever I felt like was important.

Of course, there's not a great deal worth making, or that much variety in EL, but I didn't really consider that... Plus with the limited variety, developing all skills matters more.

Except summoning, since that takes PPs and doesn't really give you much (or didn't until the stones, but I don't want to invest the PPs and time for that)

when I first started the game I just wanted to play to have fun really and the only skills I used were the usual: a/d, alch and harv...

When I started a new char I continued with them skills a bit, then focused on a/d.... once my a/d passed gargs, I thought I should train my other skills... with magic in preference!

When I 1st started I was just milling around doing all sorts, doing one thing until I had read the books to be able to do another was usualy the way it went lol.

Then one day I bumped into a handsome young dude by the name of Watchwolf  who suported me into the manu skill for a little while. So thats what I did mostly. But then you find you need other skills such as alch.

So now I am an allrounder, when I get a tad bored of one I go off and kill a few fem orcs, then I have to replenish my SR's and HE's. Then your armor breaks and you have to make more rofl. But I gave up on summoning as it just wasnt for me. I tried the new eng skill but that wasnt for me either. Did a little crafting maybe in the future I will do some more but boy you need alot of books and well the ole GC is a bit sparce at the moment lol

Oh and ya!! lether helms after a while pah!!! rofl

Best way to become all-rounder.

Get a/d to 120, and yeti, kill yeti, buy hydro bars, buy nexus, then level with your 1600+ emu, you can level super fast. Then make your own hydro bars, sell those, make more gc and become teh rich.

Thats my plans anyways.

When my wife and I started we looked over the skills and tried to divide the skills we were interested in among ourselves as much as possible. This left me with A/D and Potions. While she largely took on Manufacturing and Crafting. And we both did Harvesting and Alchemy.

When my daughter started playing she decided she wanted to be a summoner.

Now, I'm taking on more and more of the crafting and manufacturing due to my wife's health. Eventually, I'll probably move into Engineering and Summoning.

(sounds a lot like my family...everyone plays and the computer is hogged :D )

Anyway, when I first started playing, I really wanted to up my A/D. But chasing down rabbits, we all hated that. Once I started getting into the more aggressive creatures, (goblins, skellies, etc.) I started using a lot more HEs. I HATE spending money on things I can make, so i've picked up alchemy. Another reason for being a 'jack of all trades' is that you can see which skill can make you richer. Some people devout themselves to manufacturing or crafting, both very profitable, but if you choose one or the other, you restrict yourself. However, if you choose to be good at both, you have a double blade. For manu and crfting, bars are mandatory, so I choose to make my own, to not spend money. Bars need ingred, which I harvest; SO in the end, doing everything saves/gains you money.

truthfully when i started i was mega n00b for a long time. I landed in potioning and alchemy mostly but was a novice at both. Then I started growing gaining items and other things through different money making methods. (some good some ended up .... not so good) which landed me into mass training. Then my friend Dekke and I learned how to power level my stats. So i did a 24 level jump in a/d and ended up a main fighter and pker in training (say that cuz 50's and 60's aint the best pk stats xD) but i learned a lot and now mainly stick with fighting / alch / magic I had just got mana drain for a month or so before the big erase on pyscho. But I hope that this year will be a root of new bigginings and I can be better then ever

Having played single player CRPG's since the Apple II days, I have always tried to be an all arounder in every game I played that let me.

I came into EL with that same goal in mind, but quickly found out that doing that can be very hard or takes a lot of time. EL from my view makes you interact with others. Looking back, I don't think you can do everything yourself 100% and level at a good pace.

This thread asked about intentions when a newbie.

My intention was always to be an allrounder - I couldn't decide whether I wanted to single out one skill. I enjoy being able to look at my skills and see them getting a higher number as time goes on. I also like, as pointed out above, being able to turn to a different skill if getting a little bored of one particular thing.

I have changed my mind a little about summoning from what I posted in that thread. I'm now letting it slowly creep up as and when I get enough ingreds for a session of rat summoning in WS summon arena.

When I started I wanted to be a manuer.

I needed to fight to get the first ingredients, and I soon found out that fighting was easier to level, so I fought to get overall experience faster.

At that time I mostly used cooked meat when mixing, so I started making FEs. And found out that I could get money from them, and EFEs (much more money! - now I regret selling my first EFE, lol). Of course it involved harvesting.

As I was fighting, I wanted to train magic so that I can heal myself. And I wanted to make my essences myself, so I trained alchemy harder.

Let's sum up: manufacturing, fighting, harvesting, alchemy, magic.

Cooldown had been introduced, and I was mixing stuff that needed more food, so I thought drinking potions of feasting would be better than eating cooked meat. So I started training potion. I became bored and stopped for a while. But finally I found out I could get money from SRs, so I started again.

As I became better at manufacturing, I wanted to be able to make glowy swords. So I needed to get magic nexus.

I thought it was bad to have a magic nexus 5 and rarley using it. So I started training crafting. And found I could get money that way too ;)

When engineering was introduced, I tried it. But until we can get money from it, I won't train it much.

As you can see, I'm a real greedy dwarf :(

What didn't I mention? Summoning... I barely trained it, I'm not interested in spending pickpoints in animal nexus.

I decided pretty quickly after joining my first guild to become a crafter as there was noone else focusing on that skill in the guild I was in. I wanted to be self sufficient so started alching to get levels to make bars, also to be able to contribute to mixing parties in the guild. My very first goal was to get the levels to make crowns and after many months of harving and mixing I got there. Once I had achieved that I decided to start levelling other skills to break the monotony. I'd go train fighting to get a break from the mix window.

Crafting will always be my primary skill, having said that my alch is much higher than my craft from mixing all the bars and essies needed for crafting items. Then as I already had the nexus for making crowns I decided to start levelling manu a bit and in the interests of making my own srs rather than paying for them, started to level potions.

Engineering I have done a bit but until there is a use probably won't do any more and summoning I have at a nice round number of 10 from rabbits and rats but it probably won't go any further cos I have already got a lot of pps on nexus and don't really want to invest in animal. I also eat a lot of bones and meat to mix other stuff so would resent using them to summon things.

The biggest problem I have found in being an all rounder is that there are not enough slots in sto to hold all the ingreds you need if you want to level highly in all skills.

Being an all rounder makes the game more interesting but that's just because I get bored doing the same thing all the time and like a bit of variety.

I don't think I remember what I wanted to be at the start, most likely a mage or something.

Now I'm not much of anything LOL.

Back when I first started, I concentrated on getting to know the game. Ended up starting pots on my own by giving out healing potions at beam and getting the vial back (waaaaay back when lol)

After I had gained enough to make my own healing and mana potions, I began training a/d hard to gain the levels to get into my guild of choice.

After that.. for the last two and a half years, I've tended to focus on whatever skill I needed to focus on in order to provide for myself and my guild. I went on a leveling spree to get all skills to 30, then leveled them a 'spree' at a time.

Like others, my goal is to read every book in game, and be able to make every item in game. It's a long way off, but I'm fairly self sufficient now.

I won't object to staying close to the top of the craft and pots charts either lol.

When I started a little more than 2 years ago, did I take all nexus but animal and started to read all books.

I thought I would be able to make all items in game after short time.

Found out it was impossible, because of too low emu.

I reset 4 times, worked with few skills at the time, reset when I found them boring.

I have all skills but eng and summon over 60 now, buying nexus for hydro, be able to work on all skills.

Trying to read all books, still 36 left.

My goal is not to get to the top, but to be able to make every item in game.

I had wanted to be a crafter, manfacturer and potioner so i had started to alch a bit. But then i found myself harvesting alot, so i changed into a fighter. I still kept my 4 vegetal and 2 inorganic nexus and havent taken any neg perks so far, so im not a pure fighter, and semi-allrounder.

My shorterm goal is to get magic 49, then resume my training. My longterm goal is to make it to top 50 a/d. Its a very good challenege for me without the neecd to harvest lol.
