Sub folders for the item list

Recommended Posts

I'd like to be able to add sub folders to the item list. I have an item list a mile (kilometer for the Euros). Something to make the list shorter would be nice. Then I could set up a Crafting folder, Manu, Eng, etc.

Just something to make EL life easier.

Thanks.

Until such a thing is implemented, you can "tag" your items entries and use the keyboard to quickly navigate. For example, here is what my items list looks like when I first bring it up: gallery_55231_221_33897.png

Here is what it looks like after I quickly type "m022" while the cursor is hovering over the list: gallery_55231_221_52225.png

Edit: changed picture to remove offensive word.

Holy shit that’s organised!

It has to be; the list currently contains 238 entries.

Note to developers: If you do implement the tree ("subfolders") thing, please make sure that you don't remove the keyboard shortcut capability. Thanks.

If this feature was to be implemented, how would people want it to work? One option might be to initially display the high level list of top level folders, then if one is clicked, the sub-list is displayed instead, perhaps with an "back" list entry or a back button somewhere. Would just two levels of hierarchy (folders and folder contents) be enough? A fully expandable and collapsible in-window tree would be the other option.

I personally would like to see an in-window tree, if:

a. One could use the left and right arrow keys to expand and collapse sublists.

b. One could expand the window horizontally, to handle the shifted sublist item names.

c. One could move (rename) items list entries between sublists, or up and down the tree (perhaps using "/" as a special character and "../" as a special string, similar to their use in pathnames).

If you are going to be playing around with the item lists code, there are two other things that I would like to see (but haven't asked for before because they are minor compared to other things):

a. When renaming an items list entry, put the current name in the text window.

b. Allow more characters in items list entry names (maybe 40?).

Sgik, that is what I wanted, a window tree. I'd accept folders if that was easier.

A full tree view is probably going to be a lot of work. In the meantime, I've changed the allowed list name length to 40 characters and modified the rename function to start with the current name. Thanks for those suggestions sgik.

Edit: I stupidly committed a test version of the code yesterday, that's now fixed.
