Time Keeping in Eternal Lands

by Derin

The world of Draia, in Eternal Lands, uses it's own calendar. This calendar is known as the Calendar of the Elders.

It has a year of 360 days, and each day is 6 hours long-for game time. The hours in a day of the story world is 24hours, just like irl. The time can be measured through the use of an Astrolabe

or similar instrument. The Elder-year has 12 months of 30 days, each month is divided into five 6 day periods.

The Calendar of the Elders

Draians share a common calendar, know as Calendar of the Elders.

It is not known who devised the Elder Calendar or when it was first used, but it has been used for many centuries.

The naming of the months have become a common practice developed over the centuries and today it

is firmly embedded in the cultures across Draia.

This world also has 2 moons that could have played a role in the formation of the calendar.

The days of the Elder Calendar

There is no such term as week in the Elder-calendar. When referring to a date, you state the day, month and year.

The days of the Elders are: Aurun, Dranun, Worun, Mortun, Zarun and Terun.

Aurun is the First Day and the mark of dawn, the first light or the beginning. This is a work-day for the commoners.

Dranun is the World Day, where important decisions are taken. This is a work-day for the commoners.

Worun is the Weather & Godsday, which means that you often do Temple service. This is a day of worship for the commoners.

Mortun is the Day of sorrow. The day is in memory of the dead. This is a work-day for the commoners.

Zarun is the Joy-day, a day of happiness. There is usually some kind of festival held at night after work.

Terun is the Day of the Loved Ones. For the commoners its a half day of work, then rest.

So, for example, you might say: Today is the 3rd Worun in Mortia, when talking about the 15th day in the 8th month of the Elder year.

A more common practice is to say; Today is the 15th of Mortia.

Comparison beween the Elder Calendar and the Earth Calendar

- for reference -

When compared to our Calendar, the Elder Calendar does not begin in the middle of winter, but at the beginning of spring.

So the equivalence of Aluwia is the month March in the real world calendar.

The length of the calendars differs also a little. The Elder year has 360 days and no leap-years.
