First thing to do if the game isn't working or if you have any problems: Update your video card drivers!

Q: How do I make an account to play the game?

A: You download the game, install it, run it, then click on New Character to create a character/account for the game!

Q: The game lags or resyncs or seems really slow, how can I fix this?

A: See the information about updating your video card drivers, above. You can also go to the Settings button on the log-in page and select the "Poorman" option under the Details tab, or if you are in game, click on the View Options button at the bottom, then click the Details tab, and click Poorman.

Q: IP is banned-I never played the game before, but I get a message saying my IP is banned?

A: Sometimes we have to ban IP's of troublemakers and yours can get caught up in it. You can be whitelisted in order to play. Please register on the forums and then follow the directions here: Whitelist your character

Q: I can't connect to the server!

A: See if you can view this page: Players Online

If you can view that page, but can't connect to the server in the game, then you have a problem with your firewall settings. Ways to configure firewalls vary greatly, but you need to allow connections through port 2000.

If you cannot view that page, then there is a problem with your ISP preventing you from connecting. Try again later, or complain to your ISP(Internet Service Provider).

Q: I downloaded the latest update, and now there's stuff missing!?!

A: You have to install updates into the same folder as a full installation of the game, so that it overwrites the current files in there. The directory structure must be kept the same.

Q: I try to run the game and it says I'm missing wrap_oal.dll (or some other file)

A: You probably only downloaded the update, or put the update in the wrong folder and tried to run the game from there.

Q: No sounds/music- I downloaded the game but I don't hear any sound or music.

A: The sound is a separate download. It is located here on the Download Page.

Q: I downloaded the Sound/Music but it's not working!

1. Did you use the correct directory? Example for windows: the directory should look like: C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands\sound\file.ogg

It should NOT look like this: C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands\sound\sound\file.ogg

2. Is it enabled in the game? Options>Audio>Enable Sound Effects. Make sure Sound Gain is up high.

3. Did you installed the FULL pack and not just the update?

4. Did you restart the game?

5. Does other audio work on your computer? Make sure your speakers are on and sound isn't muted!

Q: Can't walk in the game/can't walk correctly.

A: In the game click on the Options button, Video tab, and click on Mouse bug and/or ATI bug.

Q: When I change resolutions in the game everything goes all wacky and/or crashes!

A: Yes this is a bug. If it does this you can change the resolution from inside the el.ini file, located here: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\Eternal Lands\main\el.ini

Q: Why is everything all white? The textures are all screwy and I can't see the ground.

A: Disable the use of Shadows in the Options. (Ctrl+O>Details tab and uncheck Shadows)

Q: My character looks wacky, it has strange textures and/or is the wrong shape and doesn't look human/elven/dwarvish at all.

A: Disable the use of the Animation Program in the Options (Ctrl+O>Adv Video tab and uncheck Use Animation Program)

Q: I can't type the @ and # symbol ingame!

A:Press CTRL+ALT to get the character. For example, CTRL+ALT+2 is @ (varies on keyboards).

How to update your video card drivers

What graphics card do I have?

In Windows 7

Start -> Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization-Adjust Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings.

Under Adapter type is your video card name.

In Windows XP

Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System.

Click the Hardware tab and then the 'Device Manager' button.

Look under the 'Display adapters' tree.

Make a note of the name of your graphics card and click the appropriate link below.

In Windows 9x/Me

If you are using a Windows version prior to XP,

Start ->Settings ->Control Panel -> System

click the 'Device Manager'

Look under the 'Display adapters' tree.

Make a note of the name of your graphics card and click the appropriate link below.

General Notes

Below you find links to various manufacturers of graphics cards (sometimes also called video cards)

If the drivers you get from there do not work, you should not give up, find your computers manufacturer hopepage and try to find GFX/VGA drivers for your system there.

As a rule of thumb (unless specifically told otherwise): Always uninstall old drivers before installing new ones!

ATI Drivers (Radeon, All-in-Wonder, Mobility Radeon, Integrated/Motherboard) drivers: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

On the ATi driver portal page:
1 Select your operating system
2 Select your craphics card type
3 Select your graphics card model
4 Click Go (little green button)
5 Download and follow the installation instructions.
6 Don't forget you should uninstall old drivers before installing the new ones.

In EL:try to set particles to 0 and fps to 30 in el.ini after you have updated the drivers

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df...65&lang=eng

Note from site:

Installs drivers for the integrated graphics controller of Intel® chipsets. This is not to be used if the system has a third party graphics card.

S3 Graphics (GFX cards/chips)

if you experience graphical artifacts and/or can't play at all and have an S3 gfx card/chip, try getting new drivers here:

http://www.s3graphics.com/en/resources/drivers/

read the instructions and download the identification tool:

http://www.s3graphics.com/en/download/drivers/Wins3id.exe

With the information the identification tool gives you (READ how to use it before you use it!), choose the cardfamily your card belongs to under point #4 and follow the download and installations instructions it takes you to on the S3 site.
