GreyElf Report post Posted November 7, 2012 My main character recently got to OA 100 and I would like to start another character with a different build. I am aware of the rules and dangers of making a mistake (rule 5) while playing 2 characters at the same time. How can I open 2 game windows at the same time using a Mac? my OS is old (10.4.1) . thank you
Sir_Odie Report post Posted November 7, 2012 You need two el-clients for that (a copy of your client in a different folder should work).
nixxy4ever Report post Posted November 7, 2012 all i do is i start another client up using the same thing i did for the first one, start - program files - elm this is for windows but im guessing may be the same for mac
revi Report post Posted November 7, 2012 That works for me under linux as well, but be aware that that messes up your chat logs : all chat from both windows will go to the same files... (chat_log.txt and perhaps also server_log.txt). Recipies, quest logs, and so on are specific to a character name, so no problems there. Just for the record, that problem doesn't exist when each window connects to a different server... (not what OP planned, though)
bluap Report post Posted November 8, 2012 You can also use a different configuration directory using the servers.lst file. This allows all files, including chat logs and el.ini etc (handy for name/password at the login screen) to be kept separate.
Ikaris Report post Posted November 9, 2012 Why not pickup an old windows laptop on the cheap for the second character? EL is nice enough to have rather limited demands on hardware if you kick down a few settings. Yes you could even use Linux on an old XP laptop and probably get better performance than XP ... either way its easy and you're golden. Heck an old macbook would be fun too but would probably cost way more.
GreyElf Report post Posted November 11, 2012 thanks, Ikaris. I really like your idea of getting a used laptop. My very old mac would probably lag terribly with 2 windows open.
Mythos Report post Posted March 28, 2013 Isn't that hard, actually Just go to Applications/Utilities and run Apple Script Editor copy/paste the following line do shell script "open -n /Applications/EL-MAC-1.9.3/EternalLands.app" where EL-MAC-1.9.3 is the folder wher El installed - change it with the name you have In the upper menu "Script" just choose Compile Then Run - it opens up a new EL window \o/ Now save it wherever you want and use it to open up as many instances you want
