Gallium 0.4 on ATI RV410

Recommended Posts

Guest Laban

My graphic card is presented in the topic title. It's set to 'normal' by my Ubuntu 12.04, latest version. The FPS was 5-20 until I aktivated 'Poor man' alternative, then I get around 40. I don't know how to install the propriatary driver for my ATI, I havn't find any written for Linux. A bigger issue is that bounch of warnings I get in my mainserverlog, propably caused by following:

[18:31:24, engine/logging.cpp:313] version: 1.9.3
[18:31:24, elconfig.c:1483] Warning: Can't find var 'server_address = game.eternal-lands.com
', type 2
[18:31:24, elconfig.c:1483] Warning: Can't find var 'server_port = 2001
', type 2

I want to fix this, but I don't know how. Most of te warnings that emerge after this, is about 'can't find blabla..', that it search for is there. In the end of the list I can read following:

[18:31:25, io/elfilewrapper.c:309] Error: Can't load zip file /home/laban/.elc/unofficial_custom_clothes.zip

The file exist in the given path, but its name is custom_clothes.zip. Should I rename it?

My processor is a Intel Pentium 4 (dual core) 3.4 GHz. Isn't my gears enough to work without the 'Poor man' option?

1) OpenSUSE/NVIDIA user here, so no experience with Ubuntu or AMD, but proprietary driver is likely necessary.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/AMD appears to give instructions on its installation.

2) Are you using bluap's Ubuntu builds?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EternalLands - Follow this installation instruction page for those.

3) custom_clothes.zip is the Official custom clothes service. Don't touch that.

/home/laban/.elc/custom_mirrors.lst <- this file, rename it to something else for the time being. Until you get the game fully working, eliminate "unofficial" stuff like the unofficial custom clothing. Can try adding unofficial stuff after the official game is working right.

Hi Spider!

Thanks for the answer. Interresting links! The secont link was the one i used, when I installed the game by the ppa via the terminal. I didn't know what bluapp's is, but it seems to be smtng for phones, so no, the game is installed the regular way for desktops. I have som problems with the downloading process in link 1, but I have contacted their tech support about that. (I dont know what to do whith a page full of java or c or whatever the code is written in), expected a binary file together with an installing instruction, but no, I don't know what happends when I pressing download. Have to wait for the the answer from their support before I can continue. During the time I continue to play in 'Poor man' mode.

Oy... bluap is the name of the player here that does those Ubuntu builds.

Yeah, can't really help further until the driver's properly installed.

Maybe someonehere on Ubuntu can assist with that.

The warning messages can be ignored, that error message also (we need to make that one a warning too). If you have other error messages then let us know. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 too but with Nvidia graphics. It could be different for you hardware but Ubuntu normally has a pop-up soon after install if there are proprietary drivers available. To check at any time, open the "Systems Setting" application and click on the "Additional Drivers" icon in the "Hardware" section. This may take a little while to open but will eventually open a window with any options you have and allow you to installed them.

Thanks to all of you for the answers and hints. Now I have got an answer from AMD tech support, telling me that my graphic card is to old for my OS (Ubuntu 12.04, latest build), and recomend me to step back on my OS version, so they can deliver a properly designed routine to that card I have.

I will buy a newer card instead, and then fetch a driver for Linux OS to it. :(

Well, I found a new card, an overclocked HD 7750, suitable to Ubuntu 12.04 by the propri. driver called catalyst, avaible from the program central, but what version I don't know, and also a catalyst v. 13.12 from AMD. Now, with a new card, I lost the sound. Installed the driver from the program central, no problem there, but still no sound. Tryed to run EL, to see if I was able to get the graphic advantage, but the first screen with the blue progress bar stopped, and froze on "preparing open window". With no sound, unable to open EL I swithedback to my old card, get the sound back, but unable to open EL. Get that tips window and putted almost every value to 0, where it means "off". Bothing helps. Erased the whole hidden catalogue, but it putted in that corrupt .ini file again, reinstall EL says that I already have the latest version, and don't reinstall it. I don't know how to remove it by the terminal, so I searched after every file in the entire hd after everything that has EL connected files, and tryed to reinstalled after that, but the answer was the same: already installed, Now I can't run EL at all. Swithing to a better card on Linux is a cursed act, everything get to hell. Have the old gears now, and want to reinstall EL from scratch, without to reinstall ubuntu from scratch, to get rid of some remaining EL files, but.. how?

Hi,

To remove you old EL config files, go to ~/your-home/.elc/main and delete el.ini. Then remove EL with either the Software Centre or Synaptic (if you have the latter installed).

How did you install the Catalyst driver? Did you use the "Additional Drivers" or the "Software and Upates" (which has a tab for Additional Drivers) programs?

If you used the AMD provided installer, you should have an uninstaller in the folder you unzipped the downloaded driver into. But there can be problems as it may not get rid of all the mess. You can Google if it does not solve anything. Best not to use AMD's installer any more.

I run Ubuntu 14.04, but have used 12.04 in the past. It does have the "Software and Updates" program. Install the drivers with this. Switch to the Additional Drivers tab and then wait a minute or two as it searches for drivers. Don't use the open source drivers as they are very slow. You will see Catalyst mentioned select the newest (maybe with the word "updates" at the end of the line) and then apply changes and wait again. Then reboot for reassurance that it is installed.

I run EL on Ubuntu on a Netbook with a AMD C60 which has some AMD graphics built in. Works fine. But don't use the AMD installer.

If you installed EL from my Ubuntu packages....

To uninstall the packages:

sudo apt-get remove eternallands eternallands-data eternallands-music eternallands-sound

To install the packages (assuming you have previously set up the repositories):

sudo apt-get install eternallands eternallands-data eternallands-music eternallands-sound

To reinstall:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall eternallands eternallands-data eternallands-music eternallands-sound

Hi Feran, (and Beaver too), tnx for your information! If I had seen this latest tips erlier in the morning, I could saved about four hours of meaningsless work. Picked away all files by hand with the name "etern*" that came up after a search in the whole hd. And installing again after this work, only to get "It's allready installed" and nothing else happend. Running the EL icon just ended without nothing has happend. After your explanation, I'm back to get this error message "Oh my, Eternal Lands Crashed - Don't Panic!" again, a very big step to a solution!

Now I have done the tips in that err-mess, setting all fx to zero, poor _man to 1, and everything else that can help a week gpu to work. (I've switched the new gpu to the old one again, I get trouble with sound and some issues with the web browser with the new one, but it worked well according to the image viewings, and there was 3 types of driver routines in the additional drivers to choose between, I choosed the one, that seems to work as I wished, but I coulden't test it on EL).

So, now I want EL to work again, and chase info about the new gpu, so I can use it without the minor failures in unexpected places. Additional drivers with the old gpu is empty, AMD want me to degree my Ubuntu to deliver a functionally routine to it, and the software center has nothing to offer. I don't know what I did last time to access EL, but now I atleast get Err. Mess., when I try to start EL, but have run out of ideas how to go furter with the ini-file. (I did an security copy of it before I start to experement with it.)

I have looked at the .ini again, but no ideas what else to do, so I complement with the complains this Error message left:

Does the glxgears command work? If it does you should see some spinning cogs, press escape to exit. If you get a similar error to running EL (X Error of failed request: BadRequest..... etc), then you have a more general driver issue. It is really hard to offer help, but I would try your new card again and check if proprietary drivers are available as suggested in post #5 above. Or search the Internet for solutions for your OS version / GPU model combination.

Nope. That cmd wasn't even installed. I think it was only the routine in the Linux kernel that was driving that old card. Now I putted in the new card, and I had 3 propri. drivers in the additional drives window to choose between (it was empty with the old card), and a administrative AMD control center named Catalyst in the dash. I copied my backup copy of original el.ini, overwriting the one I had manipulated, and voila! EL started without any problem at all! I've all FX there is to get, AND I winded up FPS max to 60! That was awsome to see the game as it was ment to bee seen :) !

But I missing the sound, and that is not an EL related problem, and I'm fishing for help in other forums.

I thank you all for all help I have got, and now I can enjoy the game even moore. I'm happy now!
