What is your political compass score?

Recommended Posts

Here the taxes (for the self employed) are about 30-50% depending on the income, where you live, etc.

On top of that, you have to add the house taxes and various other local taxes, again, depending on where you live and the local laws.

We also have other local taxes depending where you live...

And what do I get in return? Not one god damn thing.

Now, I am not a xenophobe, but I pay 5% of my income for medicare, and that money goes on illegal emigrants that abuse the US healh service. If I have a problem and need to go to the doctor, I have to pay big $$$ from my own pocket; the government won't pay shit for me, a tax payer.

Well that's maybe true, if we go to the doctor we get payed like 80% of our costs. Although if you rarely get sick you never get something, but if you have a very bad disease you will get back a lot, but we never get back 10-20% we pay more on taxes than you do, only if you are an exception who is sick all days of the month or someone who is just too lazy to work and gets like 500-600 euros per month to do NOTHING! So our system got its positive points, but also its negative points... I think in the US you have to economise your money more than we have to do, but you have bigger earnings and less people who can abuse your money imo.

The top marginal tax rate in the UK used to be 98%. Socialism, wtf?

Hmm. If one adds up all the taxes: income tax, social security, plus the cost of health insurance we americans probably pay as much out as those in socialist countries.

I wasn't thrilled with the answer choices for some of the questions either. *shrugs*

We socialist countries have a whole bunch of extra taxes too.

E.g. UK (relatively low tax for Europe)

Income tax up to 40%

+ National Insurance (social security) 11%

+ VAT (Sales tax) 17.5%

+ Petrol (Gas tax): $5 per gallon

+ Punitive taxes on tobacco/alcohol

+ Council tax (homeowner tax)

+ savings, pensions, death tax etc.

But hey, it means if you decide you can't be bothered to work then the state will look after you.

Wow, really cool graph! Can you update it tomorrow, maybe, when more people post their score?

And yes, it's funny that most of the people seem to 'gravitate' around me. I guess my political views are somewhat reflected in the game?

Your political compass

Economic Left/Right: -3.13

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.23

I found it hard to choose between "Agree" and "Disagree" on a lot of questions because I tend to say "I agree/disagree, except in this set of cases."

This makes me on par with Ghandi! :D

Seems the players of El generally lean to the left... Maybe we need to turn EL into a communist society...

Share the wealth boys, those of you with 200k+ Gold have to re-distribute the wealth to me... :(

I suspect a lot of that must go to your military... ie. in Canada, our taxes are nowhere near that (in fact, due to surpluses, they're decreasing), yet we keep up the same 'socialist' services like medicare. I personally can't even imagine what you'd be doing with a sales tax of 17.5%. :)

Hey, since I have a day off, and GNU R installed, I've generated an up-to-date (since the last posts were made) overview of EL's political leanings (according to the survey). Also, a large format, with names is available at http://rootshell.be/~bremac/private/large.jpg (sorry that some names overlapped, it's a bit hard to correct programatically.) The two red lines represent the means of the two scores, just so you can get a general idea of the averages.

Of course, mine are nowhere near as pretty as Mundaus's, but it was just for fun anyway. :) I just like seeing what kind of information I can get GNU R to present.

EDIT: I'll update this every once and a while (since it's an R script, all I have to do is append to a CSV file and regenerate). Also, the blue lines are now the medians.

What can I say? I'm a dreamer. :P

A 'neutral' option to some questions would have been nice, since like many others, there were some issues I didn't really have an opinion on.
