Music!

Recommended Posts

Alright, Hazo and I were talking (log included at bottom), and we came up with a nifty idea.

Playable instruments in-game. You can make them (I guess with the proper Manu level - it'd have to be high as instruments have to be specially made to sound right), and you can then buy sheet music to practice and play (you'd have to practice it so many times to be able to actually play it - maybe it could be a way, in the future, to unlock certain music or something? You can practice the song for experience - I guess in a "Music" skill - and when you play it you get lots more experience plus you unlock the song and are able to listen to it from anytime that point forward. I don't know, I'm still developing the idea). Right... that's it for now... ideas/questions/comment... feel free to share 'em.

[PM to TirasHazor: I think that we should have musical instruments in-game... and some sort of skill related to a bard.]

[PM from TirasHazor: LOL]

[PM from TirasHazor: That'd be awesome. xD]

[PM to TirasHazor: Then I could go around playing my bassoon in-game too. Everybody would ask what it was, and I would laugh in their faces! Hahaha!]

[PM from TirasHazor: haha!]

[PM from TirasHazor: I'd just.. use a harp or something]

[PM from TirasHazor: I'd run around and call myself a wandering minstrel]

[PM to TirasHazor: What if we had to make the instruments? That would be even cooler!]

[PM to TirasHazor: Lol!]

[PM from TirasHazor: lol, yea.]

[PM from TirasHazor: or a lute maybe.]

[PM to TirasHazor: I could open up my bassoon case at the beam and let people throw money in!]

[PM from TirasHazor: lute? loot? leut? however it's spelled. >..]

[PM from TirasHazor: haha!]

[PM to TirasHazor: How about the flute? :D]

[PM from TirasHazor: That could work.]

[PM to TirasHazor: Maybe I should put that on the Suggestions forum... it's original... kind of. :D]

[PM to TirasHazor: It might be difficult to implement...]

[PM from TirasHazor: I've never seen it in any other game. <.<]

[PM from TirasHazor: Maybe]

[PM to TirasHazor: I've seen bards in other games.]

[PM from TirasHazor: the skill could go up when you play a song :P]

[PM from TirasHazor: But did they have musical skills and makable instruments?]

[PM to TirasHazor: Yeah, and you have to buy music and stuff...]

[PM to TirasHazor: No, they didn't have those.]

[PM from TirasHazor: I'd make a concert hall in one of my maps! :D]

[PM to TirasHazor: Yay!]

[PM to TirasHazor: I think I'm seriously going to suggest it.]

[PM from TirasHazor: Do! :P]

Advantage:

- It'll be a cool thing as a feature

- People that have creativity might be able to make their own music (well, like having EL make the audio file to be added into the music list)

- Making your own music notes or whatever they are called. And maybe sell them to other players so they can add them to their music list. But in order to actually get the music, they'll have to play it, means they need a high level for it. I mean if to play the rare musics need like lvl 30 then playing the custom music is like at lvl 35 or 40.

Some of the disadvantages: ^^

- Players might abuse it to get unlimited easy oa exp (means need to fine a way so players will need something other than food to get the exp)

- Some people might abuse it and make eerrrmm.... sounds spam to annoy other players  Since i think if someone playing a music, the other players should be able to hear them also. If this is the case, will it create more lag?

Some questions:

- How to make the random things (eg. manu has their failing rate in making stuff for certain item). I mean will it be just a random in failing to play a note?

- Will the skill just be like another click-ing style to play the notes? Well it doesn't seems to me that this skill will really needs a player to know music

Hmm.... if it's really going to be implemented, seems like the idea needs a lot more thinking and specific details about it :D

PS: someone might want to eerrmm..... re-phrase my words? lol. I'm still not good with the grammar and stuff. And it seems like a bit confusing ha ha ^^'

It'd definately have to be harder than just clicking mix and eating food, yea.. Maybe it could work like magic.. I don't know, ..uh..lost my train of thought.. it's almost 2 AM.. I should go to bed... Oh! right, if..no..lost it again.. ok, if it actually emits sound when someone is playing a song, it needs to be disabl-able, like the game music/sound.

Nice. Maybe you need "spirit" sigil and "sound" *NEW* sigil and a air essence. Require like lvl 20 magic or something similar.. And the instrument could be like a needle in manufacturing or a mortar and pestle in potion making. Never be used up, just be used.

Playing music, if you're good enough, could calm hostile creatures so they don't attack (like an MM cape or perk), allowing you to walk through hostile territory. But if you stop playing so you can harvest something, you're vulnerable again.

Have music involved in a couple of quests. You must be able to play a certain instrument at a certain level to open a secret door or something.

Have the music skill give OA, but have a skill for each type of instrument (string, wind, percussion, etc.). Once you reach level n for that instrument type, no more experience can be gained.

Maybe it's time to put in place the 'charm' attribute ^^ More charm easier to succeed in playing a tone?

Btw it'll be great if u can make little money by doing street performance or something lol. Or maybe there is an NPC that'll randomly give money or smack (just like harv) when u play music for the NPC. Or maybe give or take money. So when the NPC thinks (randomly i guess) u r not playing good enough it'll take your money rather than giving some money

Make a quest that needs music in order to complete the quest

can't wait to make an orchestra ;)

Hahaha, seems like it's more like a what-we-want list rather than giving ideas on how this skill whould work

Suggested System:

Create Musical Sounds Window, similar to Wand Window. Have a Music Master (or Orchestra Conductor) NPC that will teach you Sounds for a fee. You can choose to specialise in different instruments: drum, flute, trumpet, lute. Each will have its' own set of musical sounds. These sounds are to be bought and mixed like Sigils to create Song Sheets, using Parchment. A higher Music level opens more Sounds to be bought, or allows more mixtures.

Create items: Drum, Flute, Trumpet, Lute, Parchment (all bought from general or music stores). Drum, Flute, Trumpet and Lute are equippable. Can only play one at a time. Sounds that do not fit your instrument cannot be used until you change.

Players may change instruments halfway while composing to continue a melody.

When a melody is complete, players click the 'Inscribe' button to write down the different notes onto a Parchment and transform it into a Song Sheet. These Song Sheets are magically-empowered to play music when used. (Think of them as the magical medieval equivalent of Hi-Fi sets). Not stackable.

Example Melodies

The Dead March

Melody combination: Drum Roll, Trumpet Blast, Drum 3/4 Beat, Drum 3/4 Beat, Trumpet Blast, Drum Roll.

Music Level: 3

Effect: Doubles critical chance against Skeletons for 1 battle/5 minutes.

Wail of the Banshee

Melody combination: Flute High Note, Flute Middle Note, Flute Low Note, Flute Low Note, Flute Middle Note, Flute High Note, Flute High Note.

Music Level: 8

Effect: Causes enemy to disengage and flee (if monster).

Soul's Stirring

Melody Combination: Lute Ripple, Drum Roll, Flute Low Note, Trumpet Low Note, Drum 2/4 Beat, Flute Middle Note, Drum 3/4 Beat, Lute Down Strum, Drum 4/4 Beat, Lute Up Strum, Flute High Note, Lute Ripple, Trumpet Blast.

Music Level: 24

Effect: Raises self and all nearby allies (guildmates?) attack by 5 for 5 minutes.

Feel free to comment/think up some more. ;) (Hmm..I wonder if someone can talk Koriolan into synthesizing some of these..)

Perhaps include another instrument in there that's a little lower... flute, trumpet, and lute are all pretty high-pitched instruments. Something like a baritone or... a bassoon! ;)

Oh yeah... great ideas Lyanna. Thanks for looking at this and thinking it through.
