Eternal Lands Fact Files

Recommended Posts

Okay, over the next few weeks, I'll be compiling information on Entropy's EL world - the one that is revealed by NPCs, that is. This is mainly for writer's resources, so that they know the general outline of the history and geopolitics of EL, and adapt their stories to fit.

Fact File: World

Name of Planet: Draia

Age of World: About 4,000 years.

Major Landmasses:

- Seridia: Seridia is the smaller of the two continents, but more populated, as it has a lot of natural resources. It also has a warm climate, being near the equator, in the northern hemisphere. Records show that it began to be populated about 1,300 years ago. The major races living on this continent are Humans, Elves and Dwarves.

- Irilion: Irilion is the larger of the two continents, but due to its cold and harsh climate, it is not as populated as Seridia. Major races on this continent are Orchans, Dreagoni and Gnomes.

- Isla Prima: Isla Prima serves as the link between Seridia and Irilion. It is located south-east of Seridia and north-west of Irilion. It is primarily a trading outpost to service ships that travel between the continents.

Notes of interest:

- Draia is a small planet, but has an unusually-high magnetic and gravitic field, which may be explained by a large molten-iron core.

Fact File: Whitestone City

Government: A modified form of autocracy, where the monarch is also bound by certain laws and regulations. Current ruler is Lord Luxin, a wise and benevolent ruler who seeks to help his people and newcomers to the lands, and who is instigating social reform to benefit his subjects. It is the capital of the Whitestone region, with Tirnwood Vale, Grahm's Village, and Lakeside Village under its administration.

Geography: Near the centre of Seridia, on the north-west part of the Whitestone map area. Bordered by Portland to the west, South Kilaran and Nordcarn to the north, Grahm's Village to the south, and the Northern Woods, Elavro Mountains, and the Forest of the Fall to the east

Economy: No natural resources. It relies heavily on the surrounding villages for supplies of food and raw materials. However, several high-end specialty stores exist only in Whitestone City, such as Victor the cloak-seller and Mira the potion-seller.

History: Whitestone City is the oldest and largest city still existing on the continent. It was founded by Lord Whitestone, built as a castle initially, using slave labour. Later, people moved into the castle surroundings and it expanded into a full-fledged city. It achieved dominance over the region through military terror. During the Great War (also known as the Mortos War), it sent a portion of its military to protect the Morcraven Marsh winery. The previous ruler, Lord Luxin's father, was a tyrant who started a war with the Gnomes and was defeated when the Gnomes used Gauss Cannons to destroy his fleet. Lord Luxin killed his father to end his reign before all the resources of Whitestone were completely drained.

Other notes of importance:

- Maintains Fort Hallgan and Fort Caladak in Morcraven Marsh in a joint military action with Portland City to protect the coast from pirates.

- A Good Will Festival is held there occasionally. Originally, it had some religious connotations, but now it is just an eating and drinking competetion.

- The Church of Glydoc is at Whitestone City.

- Whitestone City has a mutual defence treaty with Portland.

Lyanna's Comments:

- The relationship between Whitestone City and Vermor Castle is unknown at the present time. Possibly at one time, they may have fought for control over the region.

You're welcome, Roja. Haha...I seem to like creating frameworks and resources for writers more than actually writing stories...:D That Vermor Castle story is going to take a loooong time to finish... (Sorry, stage...)

Fact File: Nordcarn

Government: Leaderless democracy. The citizens of Nordcarn largely resist interference by authorities. Despite it's lack of an obvious leader, Nordcarn's citizens are law-abiding and disturbances rarely occur. This system has existed for more than 200 years now.

Geography: Nordcarn is bordered by White Stone City to the south, Southern Kilaran to the west, Tarsengaard to the east, and Mynadar and the Valley of the Dwarves to the north.

Economy: Nordcarn has abundant mineral deposits of quartz, iron and gems. It also has a natural trade route with Mynadar, through the Nordflaq River.

History: Nordcarn is regarded by many to be the ancestral home of the Dwarves.

Other notes of importance:

- There is a semi-barbaric goblin tribe that inhabits the mines near Nordcarn.

- The Nordcarn military is quite small, Dwarves not being very good fighters. To compensate, they have focused on missile warfare and passive defences.

- Nordcarn is perhaps the most heavily-fortified city on Seridia, as the Dwarves have been adding to its walls for centuries.

Lyanna's Comments:

- As Nordcarn is supposedly the homeland of the dwarves, at some point in time, a group of dwarven colonists must have left Nordcarn and built Mynadar. However, in the records of the event known as "Peril at Mynadar", it is clear that Mynadar regards Nordcarn as a rival competitor, so relations between the two cities may not be as friendly as assumed.

Fact File: Portland

Government: Democracy. Portland has two main governing bodies - the Council, and the Chamber of Commerce. There are 6 Council members, headed by the Mayor, who are elected to office each year by the populace. The Mayor, however, has a term lasting at least 3 years. The Council makes the major decisions on politics, justice and city ordinances. The Chamber of Commerce comprises 9 members, appointed by the Council every 5 years, and regulates trade in the city. The current Mayor is Nyeald, and the head of the Chamber of Commerce is Bais.

Geography: Portland is on the western coast of Seridia. It is bordered by Whitestone City to the east, the Kamara Desert to the north, Morcraven Marsh to the south-east, the Tahraji Desert to the north-west, and the ocean to the south-west.

Economy: Portland has bountiful natural resources as well as a safe harbour for trade. It is the closest to the mineral deposits in the Tahraji Desert, has a working titanium mine, several outcroppings of quartz and sapphires, and abundant farmland. All major industries are represented in this city, and it boasts a fine swordsmith as well as a ring craftsman. However, the dominant industry is still the sea trade. Portland is second only to Mynadar as a centre for trade on the continent of Seridia.

History: Portland initially was a small fishing village about 120 years ago, when traders from Whitestone City moved in to build a port. Because of the bustling trade, Portland soon grew from a small offshoot of Whitestone City into a major city, and procured independence within 20 years. However, the separation was amicable, and Portland to this day charges no port duties on White Stone trade. Portland has also been experiencing pirate attacks and raids for the last 11 years or so.

Other notes of importance:

- Portland maintains Fort Hallgan and Fort Caladak in Morcraven Marsh in a joint military action with Whitestone City to protect the coast from pirates and train their armies.

- Portland also has the largest library on the whole continent.

- Portland is walled due to dangerous monsters from the Tahraji Desert and the titanium mine close by.

- There is a pirate outpost 20 kilometres north-west of Portland, which has just recently acquired lighter-than-air vehicles.

- Portland has a mutual defence treaty with Whitestone City.

Lyanna's Comments:

- It is possible that in the near future, Portland may be the scene of some rather horrific battles between the continental military and the pirate army. Citizens should take note.

- It's my home! :D

Fact File: Corren Town

Government: Democracy. Corren has an autonomous government, but does not have a Chamber of Commerce like Portland.

Geography: Corren Town is in the Desert Pines area, on the north-western corner of Seridia. It is bordered by Kilaran Fields to the east, the Kamara Desert and Portland to the south, Evergreen Woods and the Tahraji Desert to the west, and the ocean to the north.

Economy: Corren is primarily a port and a mining town, due to the proximity of the Crystal Caves - the largest and most extensive mine system in Seridia. The Crystal Caves house nearly all forms of mineral veins, metal ores and quartz crystals. Because of this, Corren has a very strong economy.

History: Nothing of interest to date.

Other notes of importance:

- The Church of Aluwen is located in Corren Town.

- Corren Town is the major market supplier in raw materials - something that the Dwarves in both Mynadar and Nordcarn are trying to overcome.

Lyanna's Comments:

- nothing as yet.

Fact File: Tirnwood Vale

Government: Ruled by Whitestone City, but has a circle of elders to decide on everyday village matters. The majority of the population are Elves.

Geography: Tirnwood Vale is in the middle of the White Stone area, bordered by Vermor Castle to the east, Whitestone City to the north-west, Lakeside Village to the south-east, and Grahm's Village to the south-west.

Economy: Tirnwood Vale is rich in timber and forest fauna. Major industries in Treetown mostly are hunting, and the trade in timber and furs.

History: Nothing of interest as yet.

Other notes of importance:

- Tirnwood Vale's elders are seeking to break away from Whitestone City's influence and declare independence.

- Sylpho, the priest of Selain, the summoning God, lives on the outskirts of Tirnwood Vale.

Lyanna's Comments:

- With the majority of the population being Elven, it is likely that Tirnwood Vale would be a centre of learning and knowledge - particularly with respect to forest biology and herbology.

- It is strange that head priest of Selain would be located so close to a town full of elves, who follow Aluwen and hence are mortal enemies to Selain. Perhaps there is a sinister plot afoot...

Fact File: Mynadar/The Valley of the Dwarves

*The town itself is Mynadar, and the general area is the Valley of the Dwarves.

Government: Up until the Great War, Mynadar was ruled by a king. However, there has been no news about the system of government in the years since the rebuilding of Mynadar.

Geography: Mynadar is located on the northern coast of Seridia, bordered by Tarsengaard to the east, Nordcarn to the south, Kilaran Field to the west, and the ocean to the north.

Economy: Mynadar is the busiest trade centre on the continent, primarily due to the gold mine. The valley of the dwarves has fertile fields and an abundance of flora as well. The major industries are gold mining and trade. The Nordflaq river allows trade with Nordcarn.

History: At some time in the history of the Dwarves, a group separated from Nordcarn and built a port town to exploit the gold mine in what is now known as the Valley of the Dwarves. In the years before the Great War, Gondric Mithrilfist found the Dark Throne of Mortos in one of the mines, and later became the living avatar of Aluwen in order to banish the god of death from the realm. At the beginning of the Great War, however, Mynadar was overrrun by the army of monsters and undead that Mortos and Selain raised. We do not know any information beyond that point at the moment.

Other Notes of Importance:

- The temple of Mortos has been uncovered in the east of the Valley of the Dwarves.

- Mynadar's walls have been reduced to ruins and are slowly being rebuilt.

Lyanna's Comments:

- nothing at present

Fact File: Grahm's Village

Government: Ruled and administered by Whitestone City.

Geography: Grahm's Village is located in the Whitestone region of Seridia, bordered by Whitestone City to the north, Morcraven Marsh to the west, Lakeside village to the east, and Grubani Peninsula to the south.

Economy: Grahm's Village has very little in terms of industrial potential. It has a stables, but mainly serves as a trading outpost for the trade routes between the winery in Morcraven Marsh and Whitestone City.

History: Founded by a shopowner named Grahm.

Other notes of importance:

- Whitestone City is trying to get rid of Grahm's Village, as it is a burden to them.

Lyanna's Comments:

- Nothing worth saying.

Fact File: Lakeside Village

Government: Lakeside is ruled and administered by Whitestone City, and does not have any independent leadership.

Geography: Lakeside Village is the main port of the Whitestone region, and is along the eastern coast of Seridia. It is bordered by Tirnym to the south, Vermor Castle to the north, Grahm's Village to the west, and the ocean to the east.

Economy: Lakeside has access to the sea trade routes, and is usually the first port-of-call for ships coming from Isla Prima and Irilion. It's primary industry is fishing, and some zoology.

History: Absolutely nothing of interest so far.

Other notes of importance:

- General Trik is buying weapons and armor for his army near the Lakeside docks.

Lyanna's Comments:

- None so far.
