The message means that your client_state.json file is corrupt.  If you've not edited the file and if other files are corrupt, then it is is probably due to something else such as disk errors.  If you edited the file then you can still recover by fixing the error.  The JSON format is text but has a specific structure that must be valid.

Maybe the save procedure should keep the previous version in a backup file every time it saves? Would give a chance to restore it.

Anyone still experiencing and issue like this, please upgrade to the latest stable release, 1.9.6p1.

http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?/topic/61733-new-client-release-1961

Changes/fixes include:

  • Add additional logging when saving user files. The explicit file close needed for the logging may possibly fix "problem with ..." issues.
  • Detect if loading a zero length user file, log to user but don't disable saving. Zero length files have been reported but required user action to resolve.

@bluapJust a detail, but iirc the current latest stable release is 1.9.6.1. (that's the one you linked to)

(1.9.6p1 was the previous version that got a tag)

They are the same 1.9.6p1 (shown in the client) == 1.9.6.1(the release tag).  Should really modify the client to use the stand version numbering.
