Why do people always want new stuff? It makes more sense to me to fix the "old" stuff so that it gets more use. There are countless (well not quite, but I mean there are a lot) of items that are just not worth using because they have been superceded by the "new" items that get added periodically.

There are many suggestions to fix many of the superseded items.

I don't have the power or ability to make the changes personally, only make suggestions, some are to pre existing stuff some are new stuff.

So in brief;

The gun would be a muzzle loaded (maybe an EL shop xclusive item) requiring both Eng and Ranging to operate, dealing unspecified damage and loading/firing rate. firing bullets made from white cloth, blackpowder and iron and maybe paper.

This could generate some irl cash

Any more suggestions/comments?

And ir would be able to occasionally be broken requiring that quack in MM to fix it :bangwall:

Just to have fun with it:

To make it an all in one ammunition, it will be a paper cartridge

5 lead bars

75 engineering to make.

Where do you get lead bars?

DOH!!! Lets go with copper. Many bullets today have a copper jacket. 3 iron bars and 2 copper. :D

Because people keep leveling so there is a constant need of new items belonging to higher levels. Requiring high levels of two skill in use, or it blows up in your face, is a way to prevent it from making older items superceded.

It will be Tasers next !!!!

come on man, tazers are a bit far fetched, if your gonna troll at least try and put some effort into it.

Simple...guns have no place in EL, end of. :)

Fire arms have been around since the 14th century so plausible and in line with the games loose medieval theme.

Lest we forget we has already remote mines, night visor glasses, flying machines, specialised detectors & sensors, advanced metals & the ability to access hyper space, none of which fit with the medieval ethos.

Blackpowder projectiles deserve a spot along side, especially if the gun itself is sold via the shop and the ammo whatever it turns out to be is made via high level players.

All the stuff to make a fire arm are already in game; blackpowder, wood, iron, cloth etc...

I am not talking about AK47s or a Barett XM500s but a low accurate, high damage, dangerously unstable and expensive piece of kit that is in keeping with the EL theme.

and remote controlled mines are? It's no different than ranging, except for slower firing time and maybe greater damage. Muzzle loading weapons are a natural progression. We have enough mixers that are maxed out and bored with the game. We need to add new items.

I know some of you are in countries where personal firearms are illegal, but much of the world is allowed personal protection.

having seen the number of players with maxed stats i'm not sure adding a few new items is going to last that long for them, maybe there should be a new map that is so dangerrous to enter (initially) that only the highest players can get to it or find away to survive there, maybe dragons are ferrocious, or the level of harvesting/magic is that much higher

also, how about the rabbits dropping poo, then you can harden them to make shot for a blunderbus, low range and low damage but a wide target area

shot = rabbit poo + fire ess + lead (new item lead?)

+1 for harquebus, arquebus, hackbut, etc.:

Very slow on reload, but very high damage (even bigger then FA from bow).

Sounds like a very good idea.

You put some bombs at entrance in pk and take a gun to make sure you kill everyone. This way any noob can kill anyone. Seems fair to me.

Ah the 'reductio ad absurdum' response, classic. Why stop there Domino? Why not say oh no having a new item in game will ruin EL, the economie will die, noobs killing casties, pk will die blah blah blah

Strange, since we have bow with FA now and there is no complain about it. As for bombs, I did whine about it long time ago but only thing I got in reply was "watch NH tutorial you f**** n000b !!!111eleven".

Did they really use guns in medieval times? At best, it would have been some rudimentary form of a musket-type gun. Maybe slingshots and cannons would be a better idea. Heh. I'd hate to see the medieval ambiance and theme ruined.

I agree.

Although this post was never about the introduction of desert eagles and AK47s, more using the ingredients already in-game to make a new feature of EL.

Introducing firearms is very controversial I know, but and this is a big but, guns in some form no matter how rudimentary or crude have been around since early 1200AD, which is 8 years after the third crusade (1189-1192) so in my opinion fits with the"flow" of EL.

As a side note +1 to cannons and slingshots

Check for example "Pilars of eternity" cRPG. They implemented medival firearms very nicely.

Myself I would see it like this:

1. Don't add several of them, focus on single unit, an arquebus. Example: http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140731105637/assassinscreed/images/d/d2/Arquebusiers_development_concept.jpg

2. Use that item (ammunition) to 'burn' some not useful ingredients (gun powder making?).

3. Make it very slow to reaload and inaccurate (accurate level of long bow, or no acc bonus at all). So for use mostly by high level rangers or close combat with tank.

4. Make it cause very high damage (FA damage or greater).

5. Make it very easy to break and expensive (150kgc at NPC?).

Where do we use it you might ask in that case. Simple, for example as support weapon on invance (replacement of bow). HOWEVER for thoese that love to role-play (me) I see it as a hunting weapon. Even now I sometimes hunt animals with bow, for meat. I know, this brings no profit, but I care more about FUN.

Let me know about your thoughts on this.

Blackpowder is also known as gunpowder so is already ingame.

Although as a side note some other already ingame items that aren't that well used is; paper(used for early cartridge casing)

cloth( used as wadding in muskets)

copper (as modern bullet casing)

tin( as buckshot in some forms of early blundrbuss thingy)

I am as gungho as much for this as anyone, a point was made that we need a lot of lose ends tied up before implementing anything new. Little non sexy things that need to be done. The harvesting and ranging gods need a npc. We've asked for dailies for potting and crafting, still waiting on them. Quests and story lines that drop off into nothing. When we get some of this stuff complete, then let's push for hand cannons and fire lances, instead of new mobs that only the pr0's can kill. ;)

Guns and hand cannons date back to the 1400's in europe. In China they started using gun type items around 800-900 AD (9th or 10th century).

Guns are actually a very Middle Ages item.

Now implementing an item where disgruntled regular players could lie in wait for PK annoyances and shoot at them...

Actually on that note...

Maybe guns should be craftable, but bullets only come from the EL shop.

From what I saw, those Chinese guns were closer to fireworks than to modern guns. Also, their black powder wasn't the same as the modern versions (different proportions of carbon, sulphur and saltpeter, and something like 40% other ingredients). So that makes for guns that were not that effective as killing weapons.

It would make more sense if it was the other way around, in terms of burning less used items, pay whatever it is for the gun and have an engineer make you some bullets

some of the first uses of gunpowder where as celebratory fireworks, they where later put to military use as rocket propellant and fire lances in the early ~800AD but buy 1200AD they had developed hand cannons literally small cannons that ft it in your hand that idea of using a propellant to fire projectiles rapidly spread west but enough of that history junk.

i dont mean this to be a patronising link btw http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/war/gunpowder.htm
