tropatropa Report post Posted June 14, 2012 Post the method you used to install the game. Do not run regular applications as root, may cause problems (that means do not log in as root). Installing the game using the deb package will put the following files into the following path: - The binary path is /usr/games/el.x86.linux.bin - The data folder path /usr/share/games/EternalLands - The personal data folder path /home/yourname/.elc (Places->Home--->View tab->select->Show hidden files [Ctrl+H for short]). Here you find el.ini file.
Guest james Report post Posted June 14, 2012 i used the "quick install" way as I am a total noob. Im running ubuntu studio, does that mean I should use the one marked debian?
Guest james Report post Posted June 14, 2012 last night, I removed and installed again via synaptic package manager. same problem, no el.ini

bluap Report post Posted June 14, 2012 If you initially ran the client as the root user or via sudo then you will have created your ~/.elc directory and not have permissions to access it as your normal user. While logged in as your normal user, open a terminal and type the following command exactly (copy/paste would be good). This will correct the ownership of the files if they are incorrect or be harmless otherwise. sudo chown -R $USER:$USER $HOME/.elc
Guest james Report post Posted June 15, 2012 thanks bluap, I did what you said, and had to enter my password. then tried to launch from apps/games/eternal lands and got the same error message as before. any ideas?
