bots with no gc

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in the frustration with bots that claim to be buying items but don't have the gc or the inventory slot to buy them with. I actually wonder if it's possibly even against game rules, since the bots advertise on channel 3 what they are buying, and afaik, fraudulent ads are not allowed on ch3.

I think the best thing would be for the bot coders to add a test in the code and only offer to buy what they actually have gc for.

What do people think of this?

Because some bot code isn't as smart as others or the bot owners have hard coded ads.

Either way, the bots would still like to be able to buy the item and most bots also trade items of equal value, so you can trade with them to get another item for what you sell to them even when they don't have any gc. If someone wants to sell items to a specific bot and they don't have gc, check their inventory for other things of interest! If you only want gc, then check other bots.

I'm suggesting the bot code be corrected.

To me, the bottom line is it's false advertising. If a player isn't allowed to make false advertisements, why is a bot? The ad doesn't say "buying blah blah for 10k worth of items", it says "buying blah blah for 10k gc."

I think it's a good idea. It's a real pain to go from empty bot to empty bot to empty bot trying to sell something that they say they can buy. Some people try to manipulate market prices this way.

I've run into the same problem myself, although it's usually lack of inventory slots on the bot, rather than lack of gc. Either way it's damned annoying, and can quite easily guarantee the bot'll see no further business from myself.

These are the issues:

---------------------

Bot has no empty slots.

Bot doesnt have any gc.

Easy solution:

--------------

Each bot has to list the gc on it and the empty slots.

Like salt does for example for the cash:

I agree some bots ruin prices and never have cash on them. I know some of these ...

My bots Wanted lists already take into account gc, slots, & emu, but I can understand why most bots haven't jump through those hoops before. It also had confused some people as to why a bot didn't want something even though the bot owners were able to verify it was on the bots buy list. The smarter you make the code, the easier it is to confuse people until all the variables are tracked down and accounted for. With my bots it gets more complicated because friends can be given a discounts or bonus price on items, so 'friends' can see a different Wanted list then normal users because their prices are different. At least that was simplified some by using only the public [rice/wanted list for the ads, but it still puzzles some friends.

The basic idea that a bot shouldn't advertise unless they can pay is good, but it gets more complicated from there

Bot has no empty slots.

PM the bot with "inv", most of them tell you, how many slots are free and/or how many carry capacity they have left.

I agree some bots ruin prices and never have cash on them. I know some of these ...

How can they ruin prices when they can't *BUY* stuff for a higher price?

Yes, thats spam in market channel, but:

o #ignore_bots

o leave market channel and use querybot and other websites

I dont see that as a big problem, PM the bot, before you start to walk, with "inv" and "wanted" and you should be fine. Bots, who never have cash, can be ignored.

Simple as hell.

The problem is, you stand before the bot, have made an item, and that bot cant pay for it, such simple.

And it occurs quite often.

Others offers to buy and sometimes i overlook the slot issue. Sometimes i buy some cheap crap to get rid of my stuff because I am already at the bot. You cant ignore that, because that bad habit, bots without gc is quite often these days.

Sellers refer to bots who pay high prices and I sometimes refer that these bots don*t have the cash on them to buy that stuff. This influence prices.

Basically I agree with the guy who started this topic.

People check the sites like query bot to decide what to charge for an item they are selling. Doesn't matter if the bot can't actually buy the item in that situation because people aren't actually going to the bot. So the situation goes something like: "I'm not accepting less then ### for this item because I can get that ### from botX." but the seller didn't actually go check to see if the bot had the GC to make a payment. And the bots that usually don't have the GC are the bots that are most often claiming highest payout.

Well.. when the seller thinks, he can get more money from a bot, he should go and sell it to that bot.

After the 2nd or 3rd time the bot won't buy his stuff, he should think, if his way to make prizes is the right one, because obviously he cant sell his stuff for that price.

This discussion is somehow pointless, like a lot of discussions here are.

If you can sell stuff to a bot for a given price, go and sell it to that bot for that given price, but don't pester the community/market channel with that.

If someone offers to sell stuff for xxx gc with the argument "i can get the same price from a bot", the buyers should say "Then go and sell the stuff to that bot, bye!", then the seller will see, if he gets the price or not.

It looks like (at least for me), that the whole problem of too high prices is, that buyers accept them, because some bots offer that prices, regardless if they can pay or not.

If the price is too high, dont buy from players, buy from bots or NPC's then.

Or don't buy at all.

You don't need that shiny armor or that fancy dress right now, you won't drop death immediately without it.

Just be patient and wait.

If no one buys stuff at those high prices, the prices will go down for sure ;)

And that is not a problem of bots without free slots or gold coins, its a problem of the behaviour of greedy players, who can't wait.

Full stop.

Amen.

After the 2nd or 3rd time the bot won't buy his stuff.....

Then we get a thread like this one to see if there is a better way.

Okay.. what are you doing in real life, when you go to a shop and want to sell things but the shop wont buy it?

Are you going to that shop over and over again, or are you starting after the 2nd or 3rd attempt to *LEARN* and give up?

What's so hard to understand this?

It's a game. In real life, I'd spend my money where it's wanted. Obviously, the bot owners done't want the gc. What's so hard to understand? They should fix the bots to not advertise in 3 if they don't have the gc to buy.

They are advertising that they can buy my item but when I get there they say they can't or won't? I'd call the BBB and report false advertising. Pretty simple

Something that is bad is when a bot owner has his/her bot set up to buy 30 oranges for 19kgc each, and it has been set that way for 4 months with no gc on it. Something like this is unnacceptable as a bot owner imo. You need to keep things up to date. I think its terrible to look up a rosto and see 35 bots who want to buy one for as low as 1000gc. There are bots who will pay mid 40s and yet we see bots who pay 1000, 10k, 20k, 30k, etc... It makes no sense.

I dont keep too many slots free for poeple to sell me items. I need to keep items on it to sell and make some gc. So what can I do if my bot is setup to buy alot of items and when i log on someone has filled up my slots and took my gc? There is little I can do about it. Also, some of us dont have millions of gc to leave sitting on the bot, but either way, if you are buying items the slots will fill up and the gc will be gone.

+1 :icon13:

I found very irritating to check and keep up to date a list of bots that are BSing.

So it looks like most people are in favor of bot code not offering to buy things when the bot has no gc or no free inv slots.

Dogbreath (and other bot coders) - can you please make this change to your code?

I always make sure to keep enough gc on my bot to buy anything it is trying to, but I will put my money where my mouth is and make this update to my bot code too.

My opinion is that there should be some sort of code standard.

Well i agree changing advertising to the avaiable items, for the price sounds, good, as does the idea of having the free slots and emu shown.

To stop advertising because slots or emu is full, i think is a bad idea, because that might change in the 15 minutes of the time from advertise to buy/sell

but if it is shown on a wanted question or link of a said webpage you should know to go there or not.

As for gc Mercator wants the gc for buying products at the time i ask him to buy it. if it is not done that way, the amount of gc should be shown.

One little nit here:

not buying because no free slots is going to be a bit of a pain to code correctly, as there's enough items that stack... As long as there's free emu you still can buy those, provided you have at least one in inventory. So you'd have to be able to reliably identify non-stacking items (item_info.txt does not have that information). (If you have none of a given item in stock, and no free slots, it's easy...)

well you can always get the number of slots and emu available from http://bots.el-services.net/

it takes 5 seconds to go check that so id say its not such a big deal if you dont code that in but for amount of gc the bot has on him, i think that would be very useful and at the moment, you cant get that info for most bots

Normally I also check webpages first before travelling. There are bot owners who would mind if their gc amount on the bots would be made public, I don't, but if not too difficult to code: add the option to opt out/in and any botowner would be happy. Its up to the customer to trust and travel to bots without their gc amount not public.
