Recommended Posts

When I log onto EL after only a couple seconds I get this error

The Nvidia OpenGL Driver lost connection with the display driver and is unable to continue. Application must close. Error code 8

I have done all windows updates, all drivers are updated.

I am running windows Vista

Video card is GeForce 7600 GS

any ideas?

Thanks Cher

What version of the nvidia driver are you using right now? A post from nvidia on their forums indicates the problem was fixed in version 275.59 and higher. It's possible that you need to download the driver directly from nvidia rather than use the one provided through the windows update service.

The drivers for vista and win7 are the same, you just need to know if you are running 64 or 32 bit vista. Here are the links for both drivers:

32-bit: http://us.download.n...nglish-whql.exe

64-bit: http://us.download.n...nglish-whql.exe

You will want to remove the old driver completely through Device Manager before installing the new; this link will help you with that if you're not sure how:

You don't want to update video card drivers from Windows Update, you want to get the latest driver from nvidia's website.

edit: ah chr0 posted while i was... yes i had this thread open in a tab for over 24 minutes before getting to it.

Sorry I should have listed I updated drivers from nvidia. Anyway this morning I followed the links Chr0nik sent and uninstalled the old driver then installed the new. Still no change as soon as EL loads it crashes and gives me the same message.
