Client patch for Windows and Linux data (V2)

Hi,

 

i compiled the recent CVS and tried the new client.

Looks good but i have few glitches:

 

1. all windows have a solid black border

black_borders.jpg

2. all effects look very ugly, like on very low resolution

ugly_effects.jpg

3. the quick spell icons look a bit blurred

 

No errors in error_log.txt or in console...

 

I have:

Running on Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 64bit:

CPU: Intel® Core i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz

Rofl at picture 2!! Might be hard to train that way :) And is it just your quick slot or all items? Because all my items were blurred (storage, inv, quick slot)

 

It might be hard to see until you compare 2 items

Are you using "use animation program"?

 

Yes Xaphier! All the option for best visually are on :)

 

 

 

 

GPU : nvidia 9800M GTS (driver 260,19,06)

OS : ubuntu 10,10 x86_64

 

Does disabling the "use animation program" has an effect on you shadows?

Hmm i tried it again - copied the data from the zip file that is referenced in the first post over the clean installation files, cloned the git repository - enabled NEW_TEXTURES and removed PLATFORM definition (i am on 64bit) and compiled the binary.

After running it i got this:

Now the black border i had around windows is gone, also the effects are as they should be.

Just that ground thing is broken.

Oki, great work btw :)

I don't know much about opengl stuff, but is there a way to reduce the load the client produces ?

I've tried to profile the client and ~75% of CPU load is produced by graphic driver.

In console mode my CPU usage is around 20% and 40-50% otherwise (if i turn on poor man or switch off details etc. does not matter, or there is only a minor improvement - like 5%)...

I am working at it, but it will take some time till it is finished, because a lot needs to get changes. Also, it will move the work from the CPU to the graphic card. Especial eye-candy can have a big impact on CPU work.

Cordor, if you quit the client and start it again, is it still slow?

 

Yes and its every time i start the client until im logged in and not if i play.

if i type in my username or password it takes seconds before a letter apears.

With the latest .exe I launched it, loaded the game, could see dp sto, see names, but couldn't see people. Then it crashed.

...

launching the game again, I was able to get ingame and see people.

 

With old client this can happen if you change video settings (shadows?), a relog usually fixes that then. Were any settings changed?

just a minor detail... the 2d skeleton in the ground now looks like singles bones without conection... if i remember correctly one of the "easy first" quests refers to one of these skels, and if it isn't there...

I had a problem with the chars, all the torso's and hair are displaying pure white, but the arms are fine, rest of the images there is no problem....any ideas or help?

* i tried turning off and on most options with no success.

Yes I had no problem after the 2 patches, this only happened when I installed the new exe. I made sure it overwrote the old exe and tried it twice with same the same result each time. Gone back to the old 1_91_1 version pre patches and its running fine.
