Modding a picture.

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I need a picture modded, pretty simple I think but since I never learned a friggin crap about modding stuff

and my possible only experience with pictures is based on paint (:X) I should probably get help.

BlackRoseAvatar.jpg

The above picture I would like to see the white of the rose, being turned red.

Anyone that could do this for me, plox? And also making the picture bigger.

Thanks in advance for anyone that responds.

Ask and you shall receive.

(not that I am a pro at graphics, but I can at least try). Notice that the original rose was very low resolution (100x100 pixels), so enlarging it will cause some degradation. The large version below is 150x150, I wouldn't go much beyond that.

Enjoy!

When you do what you ask to a grayscale image they often come out a bit dull, because any colour is already closer to black than white is, so you tend to lose some of the darker grey areas of the image.

This didn't come out too bad tho:

So to provide exactly what you asked for; the above is it.

There's other possibilities though.

Common image manipulation apps have the ability to adjust the color balance of the highlights and midtones of the image. Adjusting either (but usually not both) can sometimes achieve something attractive:

But, you see some white does remain and much of the rose remains pale.

EDIT: and I see now Usl posted while i was afk and provided a midtones modified one also ;)

except mine's slightly less pale cause I didn't onlt increase the red channel, i also reduced the non-red channels... at least, i think that's what it is.

EDIT2:

oh yeah, and forgot scaled:

Hmmm, is there any decent way to make it larger scale and keeping it fairly in decent shape?

I've been wondering about getting myself a t-shirt made. =P

Little can be done to enlarge a raster graphic such as that and maintain a crisp look.

Of GIMP's provided scaling methods, the Lanczos resampling method seemed to yield the best results (unsurprising when scaling to this degree):

As you can, it still ends up looking quite blurred.
