We can also support a recruiting guild for the newbies (that can be joinable only below 20 level -opposite of regular guilds-) so we can have some helpful people who can give a hand to those who are new to the game. I would actually support them with gc or items if it was implemented.

-Kaddy :)

Ilike the idea of a guild new players can join to learn the ropes

Though who has the patince to be the rank 20?

For a price from radu (didnt ask him about this yet, so I just assuming he accepted), someone can have that patience :) Everything has a price, go MasterCard!

Slow forum day was it? - off topic is usually the best place to increase for forum count ;)

If someone wants to make a MySpace page for Eternal Lands, I will add the page as a friend. Just gossip tell me when the MySpace page is made for it.

I will even add the Eternal Lands page to my top X friends list so that it is shown to everyone. Please use the EL Logo for the profile picture.

A little while later.....

There! I added a link to Eternal Lands from my MySpace page. It includes the logo literally from the EL website (<IMG SRC=.....).

It is under my interests section on my profile.

What if you could still be in your normal guild at the same time? There could be a seperate set of commands (#join_newbie_guild xxx, #ng to talk, etc) and a couple more experienced players could be in the guild at one time. There could be a few of them to keep the helper/newbie ratio high. Tags probably wouldn't be necessary. It could be a good option for some more invested newbies who simply need a little more guidance and 1 on 1 help, and we could keep a higher percentage of players who try the game...

There are some problems with the idea of helping newbs.

Some help them in the wrong way. Teach them how to do things for themselves, don't give them handouts so that they act like little beggers all day long.

Also, if a person is going to help out a newb, they will need the willpower to do so. If the more experienced player becomes less and less happy about the economy in the game, they will lose their helping spirit or might even tell the newb that the economy is for the most part broken, but there are still a Few items to make money off of. Of course, the newb will probably focus on the notion that the game economy sucks if they hear anything negative about the game economy. Other things, including life in general, may make a person lose their willpower to help, but I think lately, it is probably EL economy woes.

I seriously doubt there would be any monetary incentive for helping newbs or finding new players, but does anyone think that a higher rare mix/harvest rate might be an option? Maybe make it what it was at 1/1/2009 for a month per new player found or helped?

I think EL is a bit too ingrained into your life when its economy affects your mood...

Perhaps, but if it wasn't, it would have lost this player back in 2007....probably a number of other loyal players too. Oh right. It did lose a number of others. I did stick around though.

There are some problems with the ideas of people who claim to help newbs. New players should be helped by players who want to share their positive experiences with others, not players who are so greedy that they need a promise of free/rare st00f to help and encourage new players.

Heh. I was just suggesting something for incentive besides money which the other guy seemed to suggest as an incentive. Maybe I am imagining things. I don't know.

I honestly am not sure how much longer I will even be playing this game considering that I would either have to take a loss of gc or a loss of $ to make anything iron greaves and above. The only purpose I have left in the game is helping newbs or my guild and I don't really feel like chatting with anyone or helping newbs very often anymore.

If you choose to buy all ingredients, then yes, it is difficult to obtain a profit. If there were a substantial profit to be made from clicking the mix button once, I assure you, more players would do the same until market price plummeted down to the cost of ingredients (or less, given the players' valuation of the received manufacturing experience). It's simple game theory. You lose all competitive advantage by buying the ingredients. What you consider a loss is made up by others in terms of opportunity cost, rather than actual gc (or $) expenditure.

Long ago, there were only a few top manufacturers who could collude to keep prices inclusive of some profit. With such a relatively small barrier to entry nowadays, and so many high level manufacturers, each player has incentive to undercut the next.

Moving back toward the topic at hand, you can perhaps spend some time on Isla Prima offering weapons and armor which are not produced at a loss (those under the iron greaves you mentioned) to new players in exchange for some items you need, such as fire essences or iron ore. If 10 extra new players are added to EL each day as a result of your efforts, that is a lot of potential resources (both rare and ordinary) entering the game. These same players will want to buy armor as well. Suddenly, some time spent on Isla Prima drives your manufacturing business and helps EL as a whole. This is time far better spent than wasting time making the same complaints time and time again that nobody buys your armor.

You cannot possibly bypass EFE, EME, binding and serpent stones by not buying them. And these make substantial part of the items nathan is talking about, unfortuantely....

that last part is a wonderfull idea people do not understand the more people we get the lower prices will go because people will be able to sell easier and get more of it and people wont ahve to fork over large ammounts of gc for stuff the more people the less money so HELP NOOBS IN IP all u can

There is a facebook group, unofficial but it is there :pickaxe:

*side note* actually scratch this comment, the group is no longer a place to enjoy eternal lands, so I left it. It is still there but not really the image we want of el IMO.

Link to facebook page :medieval: if it's allowed to be posted as it's unofficial dunno. if not delete the post.

That's your idea of attracting people? With comments like "Join EL! Where half the "players" are the same players and the other half are bots!" and "Be yourself but try not to get hit by the ban hamz0r"...link to unofficial forums? What was the topic of this thread again?

While I respect the notion that people can have whatever opinion they want, maybe some thought about what the goal is would be a good idea before some people open their mouths and think they're funny.

This would have been a good idea if people who actively play and enjoy the game made the account and ran it.

Well especially considering even your own recent comments on the topic of multiplay Aisy:

It is really getting beyond the ridiculous what people try to wiggle around with on this topic.

Maybe it's time to finally put the "omg it would ruin economy/community" naysayer's theory to the test and allow multiplay, so the weekly bannings can stop rivalling the weekly new accounts?

(I realise the "bannings rivalling new accounts" is probably an exaggeration, well i certainly hope it is, but u get the drift ;p)

At least it must be time for that annual vote/discussion on the subject. xD

Don't look at me on this one. (Besides, if you did your homework, you'd see it's mostly the same collection of people over and over again :medieval: )

And that really is totally off topic :D

Maybe Korrode should advertise EL with a modified version of his siggy. Of course then, EL would end up mainly men if that happened. lol

The general attitude of this thread is really beginning to annoy me. Advertising Eternal Land, IMO, is a good thing, if done in the right way. The suggestion was not a bad one at all. But once again the egos of some of the posters are overshadowing the topic.

If you do not want to advertise EL then DON'T, but this is about getting more players to EL, so how about you reduce those egos and make space for them??
