You'll see on the EL download page here:

http://www.eternal-lands.com/page/download.php

it says

For Ubuntu, try this link. If for some reason that doesn't work, try the generic instructions.

The provided link has easy instructions.

it ask me for admin password and how do i un zip the file?

More info please...

Which method from here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EternalLands

...did you use?

...or are you trying the generic linux release?

The admin password it asks you is the one you entered when installing Ubuntu. and unzipping is easy: install unzip like zalic explained, then right click on file and choose "Extract here"

Hello, I am following that guide, on Jaunty, and the install seems to be having problems downloading el_170_linux.zip from http://twinmoons.org.uk/el/

It hasn't thrown up any major errors yet, but it does keep skipping so-many-K and re-trying. (You can see this by clicking Details.)

I was wondering if the OP or anyone else either has had this problem (but it just made the install last ages) or knows how to fix it. Or should I give up on using synaptic and just go the generic install route, do you reckon?

EDIT: It did screw up, after HOURS of waiting. I can't seem to download manually either - it keeps hanging, or stopping in the middle. Is there something wrong with the server? o.O

I haven't played EL for years, I miss it!

Odd, i don't have any probs retrieving that file... one can only assume the problem is at your end (are you on wireless internet? do you often have issues downloading files?) or somewhere in the routers between you and the server hosting that file.

Anyway, yeah, try the generic linux release. :)

That's my hosted server and its looking fine from here. If the download fails or you stop it then package will start the download again from the beginning if you try again. You can manually download the file in bits using wget then complete the installation. The other files are smaller but you could use the same method for them too, just change the names. Open terminal then do the following.

sudo wget -O /var/cache/eternallands/el_170_linux.zip -c http://twinmoons.org.uk/el/el_170_linux.zip
sudo dpkg --configure -a

If the download fails or stalls, you restart using the same command. The "-c" option continues a partial download.
