Google Wave

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if we have an EL folks on Google Wave. I've been playing with it for a couple days and while it's a really cool toy, it sort of feels like a fancy tool looking for an application. But if we have any users, it could be fun to create a "wave", talk some, and learn more about the tool.

We can use forum PMs to exchange wave ID's so we can ping each other.

(btw, no, I don't have an invites to give out)

Not really (or not just). It's really hard to describe, much easier to see a live demo. But when I try and explain it to people I say it's sort of a merger of e-mail, chat, and forums. You can chat live, or post comments (when others aren't there). You can post comments on specific other comments (hierarchical like a forum would be). When you connect, it shows you all the conversations (they call them waves) that have unread comments (a bit like e-mail). The UI looks very e-mail like, with folders, contacts, index of a folder, and a viewing panel.

Bottom line: it's really cool to play with, but I have yet to find a use for it.

I roamed to this thread today so...

you still testing google wave?

I tried to test a bit just for fun, very handy for putting something together with people that work online, working together on several aspects of the same things, being able to see the other type as they go... "online brainstorming".

It's a great idea, but, like myself, most people will stick to mail, messenger and google docs for a while more.

The invitation part is also limiting it a bit at the moment ;)

As far as I can tell, the wave has died. None of the public waves I follow have any activity, and the private ones (which were more like chat) have died too.

That was my guess.

Big hype about nothing.
