Stock linux client event graphics not showing

Ran into an issue with the stock 1.70 client and again with the stock 1.80 client for linux.

 

If I run the x86_64 client that comes with the download, I do not see any of the event graphics -- harving, MN slapping me, healing, restoration, etc. Nor do I see the singing beams of light from portals.

 

I am able to resolve the issue just by pulling down the latest CVS and compling a new client executable.

 

Wanted to mention in case the it is just a bad setting in a conf file when the stock linux clients are built.

The stock client requires the libpng3 library to be installed (even though many newer distros use the replacement libpng12). This was noted during release tests and a note had been included on the download page text.
