Absorbing damage vs. armor points

Did a search, couldn't find anything on this.

 

So i've been comparing different armor types and have been running into the problem of how to compare damage absorption and armor points.

 

For example, steel chain gives 3-7 armor, where titanium chain gives 'Absorbs 5-7 damage'.

 

Has it been figured out how much damage 1 armor point absorbs? Or some way of comparion? Which is better?

It's exactly the same; "3-7 armor" means "absorbs 3-7 damage".
