Linux 32/64b static binaries (with data)

Recommended Posts

Small thing that i noticed; the new 'options' button on the login screen is completely black for me.

Maybe it's a known thing, but I didn't find a post about it so I thought I'd mention it.

It works fine at me on Ubuntu 8.04. The only thing, I had to edit the ~/.elc/mail/el.ini file to point to the new datadir where I unzipped the new client.

I will post if I found other problems.

Looks good, UVP is now 0 for some unknown reasons, FPS is around 100 (unlimited).

Starts fast, runs smooth :)

(el.x86.linux.bin that is)

Make sure the data directory points where you installed this release.

I had the same problem until i changed my data dir in the settings to the new path :)

(Misc tab -> Data Directory)

Then log off and on again.

Check your configuration menu, maybe it is disabled.

Bingo!

Video -> Use animation program

and UVP = 1 now.

Edit:

erm, now i cant see the actors anymore. Well, going to check for graphics card driver updates now..

Edit2:

I cant see the sky anymore, meaning, i cant use the cursor up key to lower the camera that much that the sky is visible. Cursor up/down are limited like in the non sky client.

(show sky/stars/sun/moon all enabled)

I did a quick test on latest Gentoo x86_64 with multilib, using the 32bit el.

The first time I activated the minimap it locked up for around 30 secs, but then resynced with server and ran fine. I have not been able to reproduce the issue so I think it was a network problem.

So thumbs up from here! Keep up the good work!

Try to update your drivers if possible.

Seems to run ok on Fedora 8. gotta run around a bit and try stuff out.

Well, after some running around a bit and trying stuff out, skybox drops my frame rate to 1/2 or less, and reflections either with or without skybox drops my frame rate to 0.

The 32-bit binary works fine on my Debian (Lenny) machine though I have not used it for long.

One strange thing though. The data contains many additional files that were not in the previous Linux data .rar file or the windows file el_170_install.exe. These extra files include many meshes, some sounds, actor_defs, 3dobjects and the entire po translation (was that renamed?). Hopefully these are old files we don't need but I'd appreciated confirmation. I can give a full list if required. Thanks.

Are you sure? Because I used the same data for both things. Although I might hjave overwritten my previous install directory with the new data, and in this case this Linux (and Windows) full download might include some un-needed data.

Please check again, then give me the list.

I've checked again very carefully, comparing two sets of files in both directions. I have three downloads:

1) EternalLands.rar

2) el_170_install.exe

3) el_linux_170_install.zip

1 & 2 are almost identical with a few files like error_log.txt missing from 2.

Both 1 & 2 differ from 3. While common files are the same, 3 has many extra files. The list can be found here.

I have no clue how the hell those files got back in there again, but I just checked with Roja and she said those are files that had to be removed because of some new file naming conventions she did. So basically there is no problem if those extra files are there.

Works really fine on a Sony VAIO VGN series (NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 w/128Mb), under Debian (kernel 2.6.18 and 2.6.24), X and the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. FPS even went up somewhat from the previous client, with similar settings.

Excellent job guys! :devlish:

Only minor glitch I have found so far: when auto-completing names, e.g. /partial<Ctrl-space>, at times it also add a finishing space, others it doesn't. At first I thought it could be linked to multiple possible completions (e.g., autocomplete to the longest common prefix, then wait for more input), but after further testing, this is not the case.

It is possible this is a feature and not a bug, and I don't understand its purpose (but it seems more inconveniente for the casual user, since in almost all cases, one would need to add a space manually anyway).

I see it here as well on my cvs build. No harm done at least.

Phew, that's good as I they were not in the Debian/Ubuntu packages. Thanks.
