Timed Hydro

I was sitting in Oblivion in an attempt to "harvest" some hydro harvesters, wondering in #gm about the reasons of the lack of action there (frequent ndds)...then i came up with this: Timed Hydro.

 

Basically, restrict the access to the hydro mine, let's say, to 1 random hour every EL day (timezone fair).

 

This little trick may lead to good changes:

 

- Hydro would become a "finite" resource, starting a competition for it

- The risk of hydro harvesting, as originally planned, would be there again

- Guilds can organize to gain "control" of the hydro mine, influencing hydro price and availability

- Pkers would have a chance to earn from their skills (both paid protection and harvesters hunting)

- War, blood, pain...fun :)

- More bricks

- ...

 

Weak points:

- due to the nature of Oblivion (1 acces, 1 exit, ttrs) it would be too easy for fighters to camp there. Maybe adding more entrances, from Hulda and Theli, and more exits (some skulls spreaded in Oblivion) could do the job.

- top fighters teaming together ruining the fun (hint: last ndd) and the hydro economy...

- ...

 

On the programming side, I guess it shouldnt be a big change...a few checks here and there and a couple of #bc to announce it.

 

On the roleplay side...uh...ehm...Gods? Stars? Favorable moons?

I mined hydro last night, and again all alone.

 

I'm now certain after looking at the empty level limit arenas in c2, they only way

some players that pk could be bothered to 'fight over,guard' the hydro, is if you

moved the area to kf, and put a storage there. :P

 

The other problem is once hydro ore becomes crazy high in price and its

value is govern by a handful of players, all in a massive alliance (cough).

 

That isn't pk, but 30 people all waiting to 'pWn' the one enemy. I made my first

steel greave last night :confused: and I know its a loss. The ingredients cost at least

27k and everyone "PCs" it at 25k. So I'd only be for timed hydro if the players

are willing to pay 50k for steel greaves\cuisses :)

well basicly i like fedoras idea. well thought and pretty much an advantage for everyone. lost rostos, drops for pkers, except for the harvesters it might be a bit bad lol. (or not, if they can control the hydro price it's an advantage for em too, and i'm sure harvesters have some protectors :confused:)

 

but i can also understand robots point.. but hey.. at least 30 people in a pk arena then. theres always a wear to kill them all :) (hard, but possible :P)

I don't like this idea. I don't see any reason to make PKing easier for PKers. The way to hydrogenium ore is too easy to block single-person.

I agree also with robotbob.

I was camping at hydro some time ago, when I was active player/PKer.

I got a few players that were without rostos and stuff like CoL and more (especially RICH guild leader dropped really rich ;)), also got S2Es from others. But I think it was more of a short time luck and coincidence, afterwards I could camp for hours and get nothing. In addition, people started spreading rumours I'm camping :D

 

Also, don't forget there are peace days, also no drop days - those don't help directly, but you can try many times :)

 

All in all, I like the suggestion a lot!

Maybe we should do days of hydro harvest, like extra special days. They could be announced or somehow predictable otherwise.

 

And I don't think you should change Oblivion, it is fine as it is.

Don't forget that harvesters can summon lots of small crap and just teleport over you when you fighting a few rats. In addition, harvesters can go invisible - it is very expensive to stay all they EL day true-sighted even for a team. Also, harvesters can hire PKers.

Even if strong players are holding hydro, don't forget there is ranging now. Collect army of noobs with bows and take them out :) Also, you can hire summoners to summon dragons in Oblivion etc.

The hydro run is much too safe, in a year i got PKed once (gratz Marr), and i harvested a fair bit. I remember announcing on channel 4 once i was going on a run, to increase the sense of danger, though there was none. Other times i browsed the forums while mapwalking. I like this suggestion ;)

put dragons in the maze :P that way pkers, dragons, hydro miners... will be fun ;D

And dragons have true sight?

 

Seriously, the idea won't change anything. As was pointed out it'd still be easy enough to get past and too boring to lie waiting for harvesters.

 

On the other hand, why not make it so that you can only PK in certain times ("timezone fair"). Would save so called PKers walking through empty PK maps :P

maybe a 2x feros spawn in oblivion would work. When i harvested hydro, the only problems i ever did have were caused by fluff trainers in the non PK 2x fluff cave.

 

The spawn would have to be attractive to trainers though - easy to keep under control despite the maze. Then again, maybe the chance of some PKs would alone be enough to make the spawn attractive to the right people :P

No matter what I do, people won't still go there to PK the hydrogeniumers.

Maybe they would in the first few days, but then they will get bored and leave.

The feros spawn is a good idea though, but then people will start bitching and stuff, and I don't have the inclination to listen to whiners.

nah people would go kill dragons there coz atm only 1 red dragon and 1 black its war to get em... so while people kill dragons they could also kill some extra hydro miners.. :P

Peace and no drop days mean hydro runs r safe, so timed hydro looks like quite decend idea.

On the other hand i also somehow think that pkers dont go there coz it takes too much time to reach it, was there many times myself mainly helping friends with hauling s2e+some bodyguarding job but never was attacked by any1 nor were my friends when i was escorting them which proves this map quite dead.

If i saw any1 there then it was 1-2 ppl who were training in the double fluffy cave, no hydro minners at all :P

nah people would go kill dragons there coz atm only 1 red dragon and 1 black its war to get em... so while people kill dragons they could also kill some extra hydro miners.. :)

Are you just trying to be extra stupid or what? If dragons don't have true sight, then all that is needed to get past them is invisibility potions, same goes for people fighting dragons, I think they have other problems than either risking lowering their a/d or wasting mana on true sight spells all the time. Same goes for feros trainers.
