Blank screen - GUI still visible

I'll try to keep this brief. And many thanks up front for helping with my problem.

 

My character was walking inside WV titanium cave when the screen went blank/black.

 

 

I've been playing EL sky client 2 since its relase date w/o any problems.

Tried 1.6.0 .exe no change.

Tried #beam me - no change

Can still see the GUI.

Can log on to my laptop and play (painful as it is.)

Can still play every other game/program that i have no problem. (NWN 1&2, AoE 3 etc.)

I've checked for driver updates - running current driver

Unistalled/installed both EL and actual vid card and driver.

Set el.ini to poorman.

Did system rollback to a proper working known date.

-also deleted el.cfg file in EL folder

 

 

 

Processor Speed - 2.4ghZ

RAM - 3072MB

Graphics Card - EVGA geforce 7800 gs 256MB (driver version: 6.14.11.6921) approx. 9mos old.

Hard drive space - C: Total Size 64.9GB Free Space 14.5GB

Version of Eternal Lands running - 1.6.0 (skyclient 2)

Operating System and version - MS XP Pro Ver 2002 SP 2

Internet connection speed. - DSL avg up 4750kbps / down 760kbps

Solution mentioned was #suicide - i would really like to avoid this if possible.

Hmm interesting, I had this happen to me in exactly the same place.

I tried all manner of settings, logging out, etc etc, nothing worked. I had somebody teleport me around to other maps, still didn't work (i had thought i had corrupted willowvine map files).

I ended up re-installing the entire game including the new sky .exe and files.

That worked for me.

 

Are you sure you deleted or at least moved and renamed ALL of your EL folders and files before re-installing it?

SOLVED! (on my end at least)

 

I had yet to rename/delete my log folder in My Documents.

Uninstalled/reinstalled game and it displays properly.

I have uninstalled ,,and reintalled game several times can not find el.cfg file I looked in my documents too and it is not in there I am at end of my rope ;;;;I can get the game on my laptop and I have that file in my laptop el folder ,,,but not in my desktop one ...

anyother suggestions plz > :P

If it's the same problem i had. i uniinstalled the game.

went into my doc's and renamed the folder 'Eternal Lands' to'Eternal Lands Old'

then reinstalled the game.

and it worked.

I have uninstalled ,,and reintalled game several times can not find el.cfg

When the game starts, a message is displayed in the console window that states the directory/folder that holds your personal settings. The el.cfg file should be in there too. If you're using windows, I guess you might have to fiddle with your file manager settings so that you can see the .cfg extension on the file name.

Just an additional note, I had the blank screen thing happen to me a few times.

 

Once in Melinis and twice in Thelinor, I was able to re-create the one in Thelinor the second time. I was able to troubleshoot it and all seems to be working fine again.

 

And all three occasions were on the sky5, not the most recent preRC release.

This seems to be a very frequent problem now I guess. I try to log in and I have a black screen, the last known place I logged out was the cave on Isla Prima. Could it be connected with caves? Anyway I uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted, suicided, and nothing works for me.

 

I hope this issue is looked into.

To all the people for who that happened, were you all using a sky client?

If yes, are you using the extended camera and auto zoom options?

deleted the el.cfg file and that worked, phew.

Same thing happened to me. I was walking through Bethel, switched to console and when I switched back I had a white screen. I was still able to map walk and even use items in my inventory but I couldnt see anything. I deleted everything and reinstalled and it seems to be working fine now.
