Macintosh OS X client 1.6.0 bugs thread

just now i beamed and everyone is blue. How can i fix that.

I know there a lot of probs on my computer.

Actually only if i'm on ip

 

ok now it is gone. what is this uvp. I have 1 uvp

now it is blue again.

i am also lagging a lot

See first post, but we are working on a fix/work-around right now.

When moving the camera view around everything gets all wavy and curvy kind of, is this supposed to happen its making me sick

Proper punctuation helps. Wavy and curvy? Not sure what you mean. Although, if you have resized the window, the actors can get all messed up. I mention this in the readme.

3 problems, i pmed florian about it :

 

1. Is known i think : All animated stuffs (players / monsters) are black : no textures. Happened once already when titanium armor came ingame i was told to use the path "./"

 

2. Maybe related to 1. since no textures, but i don't think so : my fps went down.

---1 person in map ~30 fps

---3 people in map ~14-17 fps

---@ beam : ~5 fps

 

3. Right click to change mouse icon dosn't work. Only works when I open inventory window, or on the quick bar on the right of the window :hug:

Fixed 1? No more fps drop on crouded areas so 2. was definetly due to problem 1.

Well it says that "smoother" camera functions have been implemented is there a way to revert to the old way? Also the line of code you told me to add to the .ini file works, but everytime i start up the game it reverts to the default. Do I have to add the code "#use_animation_program=0" every time i load the game?

I don't know how to add the code to the el.ini because it don't see any way to alter it. What I do is type (actually paste in) %use_animation_program=0 every time I log on. This shortcut might save some folks some time.

Whenever I start the client, it immediately crashes "Eternal Lands unexpectedly quit" but when I click reopen, it works fine. Not a huge issue just thought I'd let someone know.

 

I'm working on a Powerbook g4, ver 10.4.9

 

Also, Fedora, I tried that link, and everything is in a different language so I'm unsure what I'm supposed to download. http://it.altervista.org/ is correct link?

And a recent development: Now, after it crashes the first time, whenever I open the program again it lets me log in but then as soon as I connect to the server it crashes again. The first time it happened I was just walking to sto in MM from WS entrance, and got a sudden crash. Here is my error log:

Odd instance with 1.6.0 that happends on this mac, basically I can harv, pickup bags etc.

 

What i cant do is select any creatures to fight and i cant talk / interact with any NPC's including store. Turning off 'New Selection' fixes the issue but at the loss of 20fps and jurk orama .. the game kinda steps every so many frames ( unplayable even ajusting mouse limit does'nt really fix it).

 

I deleted the old el.ini file which fixed the issue on that first restart but after retarting the client after resetting up my graphics settings i was back to not being able to react / select NPC's or select a creature to fight.

 

This is an Imac running OS X Tiger

 

Graphics: Nvidia 9600 GT

2GB Ram

 

Im not sure if a recent build from CVS has already solved this one or no, i dont have the build tools installed atm to test.

Hi, testing the 1.60.a from 0ctane on Powerbook (PPC G4 1.5Ghz, OSX 10.5.2 with all updates).

 

Bug with new_selection (can't talk to NPC) confirmed.

Quirk without new_selection (strange disk acivity) confirmed.

 

All tests with fame-buffer support enabled. Disabling it doesn't seem to freeze the client, but disables any water rendering.

 

Rendering bug confirmed : color-solid characthers having a clean el.ini generated from the new client.

 

Workarounds: disable shadow mapping, you can still leave new_selection on; probable memory issue, as enabling shadow-mapping with a larger buffer sometimes complains about buffer being too big. This bug also affects color rendering: shadow mapping enabled produces blueish/greenish images; disabling it reverts back to normal PV aspect.

 

More bugs related to shadows: having disabled shadow mapping, you can't enable both shadows and reflections: results in irregular flashing of all the water surfaces. However, you can't disable both (!) either reflections (very nice) or (non mapped) shadows ( work separatley, but if you disable both you get the same blue/green tint rendering that you get with shadow mapping enabled.

 

After a while in the last configuration (reflection on, non mapped shadows off) the whole image gets almost black, shading everything in very dark colours (ok, it's raining, but it's too much...).

 

Previous results were made with the water-shader quality set to 2. But this is frame-rate expensive...

 

Setting water shader to 0 restores the normal colours (for a rainy day; I can also see the sky lightning reflected in the water now, so color range is probably normal). However, at this point testing again the reflection / shadow combination gives different results:

 

you have to keep shadows on, or the characters are all black; and shadow mapping disabled, same problem

 

reflections now work more, but when enabled they tend to produce a very dark color blend over the water (the rest of the picture is unaffected); moving the camera, this can be made disappear in a good part of the triangles : probable bug in determining the light intensity over the reflecting surfaces from the angle of the surface? also possible the lighter triangles are not reflecting (only the sky is visible there).

 

Cloud shadows seem to work properly, I did not test their interaction with all previously discussed settings.

 

Client complains about not finding the sound configuration file

Again on testing...

 

Warning, previous results are not fully reproducible: restarting the client brings back the black characters; however enabling and disabling shadows still has some effect: the grass on the house near sto in PV is rendered all black with shadows disabled, and correctly with shadows enabled.

 

Strange !! poor_man makes everything black; but then disable it (still everything black), enable shadows.... all rendering is back to normal!

So what individual rendering flags are set/reset by the poor_man one?

 

Still the new_selection doesn't work with NPC, but the old one cuts the fps from 11 to 5...

Seems that most of the mac testing has been on PPC, I forgot to add that min is Intel ( Core 2 Duo 233Ghz ).

 

Was wondering if someone could build a new bin from CVS for this one, I had a guildie attempt but it fails with elglext.h missing.

 

I did check CVS ( via web viewer ) and can confirm its not there ... not sure if this is just a typo ment to be glext.h.

Hi, I was trying myself that way; elglext.h can be easily produced, it is some kind of stub file doing a lot of typedefs and type renames according to a regular scheme.

However compilation fails later on, with a bunch of messages like

error: syntax error before target

in the same elglext.h file; looks like the GLenum type is the trouble.

This is possible if elglext.h is entered prior to the gl type definitions (gl.h, glext.h ...) but this should never happen (I have been checking platform.h and it should not happen, to my understanding, but I clearly need to recheck).

This could be confirmed by the fact that further error messages in the same build, later on, are

error: conflicting types for GLenum
error: conflicting types for GLint
error: conflicting types for GLfloat

and the like, and this happens as long as platform.h is included. Seems weird, but is it possible that elglext.h is included before platform.h for some reason I don't grasp? Maybe adding some

#include "platform.h"

before elglext.h might work.

Looks like the problem is in load_gl_extensions.h ; edit it by moving the "platform.h" include before the "elglext.h" one.

and now it doesn't open for me at all...i'll work on troubleshooting some more, but some help would be appreciated :hug:

 

EDIT: OK, i reinstalled and same problem as before is happening. Additionally, I shouldn't have to deselect "new_selection" because i don't have the mouse bug, however when I do select it, the game crashes.

Client crash when getting in and out from some areas, like Glacmor Skill Academy and Glacmor SA sewer but not all time, it's about 4/5 times crashing.

People, for crashes, you need to provide a crash log, otherwise we will not know where the crash is occurring.

 

We have a separate thread here if you are interested in building EL using Xcode. In the next few days, I will make sure the instructions all work correctly.

 

Also, we will have a new client available soon. Please be patient! This is not my first (or even second) job.

sometimes the clicker doesn't work 2 times i die like that already.... 2x rosto ~1 pk point lost to fucking noobs (sorry for language but i'm rly pissed atm..) cannot diss, cannot restore etc.

- download this (if clicking the link doesnt work, paste it in a new browser tab)

- unzip el_osx.zip

- copy the unzipped file "el_osx" inside EternalLands.app/Contents/MacOS/

- inside that dir there is an "EternalLands" file, rename it to something else (i.e. EternalLands_old)

- now rename the "el_osx" you copied to "EternalLands"

- you now have the client i'm using, fixed for G4 (and with sky too :P)

- start the client and enable new_selection

 

I'm not meaning to sound ungrateful, I really really am, but have these instructions worked for anyone? I followed them (precisely ;) ) a few days back and again just now: all that results from it is a client that crashes after the first bounce in the dock. As near as I can tell, it doesn't even get to the point where it can generate an error file.

I was having the same problems. Delete your el.ini file before login each time. You should be able to get ot the login screen and connect to the server. From there do a ctrl-o, open your options and reset your video options.

 

It might take a minute more, but it works for me ;)
