Macintosh OS X client 1.6.0 bugs thread

Recommended Posts

This is the "official" OS X bugs thread for the 1.6.x client release. I (or someone else) will update this first message as problems are identified and fixed.

A MUG (Macintosh User Group) list is here.

You can get the game here: Version 1.6.0.1b

Current EL version 1.6.0

Mac version .1b (10.4+ Universal Binary)

Note:

If you are looking for it the el.ini file is found in ~/Library/Application Support/Eternal Lands under the "main" directory currently.

Note 2:

PLEASE, when you post a bug, include the type of Mac you use and the OS version. Crash logs can be useful too.

Known issues (other than those listed in the ReadMe):

Many. However, everyone should probably delete their current el.ini file (see above) so that a new one gets loaded. If you get a problem with all the actors looking solid or invisible, turn off "User animation program" in the Video tab of the Options dialog.

This was primarily built on a i386 MacBook Pro.

Everyone thank Florian and Fedora for a lot of debugging. They have been invaluable in making the current build possible.

Finally, stay on topic please. This thread is for identifying bugs in the OS X client.

Thank you all for the work you've done; you've no idea how pleased I am to have a client before the update.

And now, for the bugs! :P

I get this while walking to the storage in PV. It seemed to start crashing when there was rain, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm running 10.4.11 on a Powerbook G4 15" (Stock except for an extra 1Gb RAM). If it's a video problem, my video card info's below (the ATI one is the Mac).

Those failed downloads might be because 1.6.0 is not live on the main server yet. If 1.6.0 is live, then it is a server problem and not something with the client. Look at Florian's post above for how to run on the test server.

The sound error is known and not limited to Macs.

The opengl error is helpful. We can look into that one. I guess it also gives away my first name.

All working on my New MacBook Pro with 10.5.2

Had to add #use_animation_program=0 to el.ini and download the sounds and install in the data folder but apart from that all working.

Thanks very much everyone who worked on this, it really is appreciated :-)

Not really. I always had this one before I patched my actor_init.cpp with

GL_MAX_PROGRAM_NATIVE_PARAMETERS_ARB instead of GL_MAX_PROGRAM_PARAMETERS_ARB in line 543

Thank you 0ctane, Florian, Fedora and everyone else making another great update possible.

I've been in the test server and so far no problems :)

Character movements improved (gnome), looks a lot better and funnier :D

About the Palon Vertas, I have had a couple of problems before, sometimes everything turned green, other times everything wen't black and i only could see the names of the chatacters, NPCs and animals. This always happened when i auto-walked from the cotton to the storage somewhere between the building and the bot (shrimptaco i think).

Went there, auto-walked a couple times but no problems. will wait to try it on main server.

mouse bug on Mac OS

all the action from the mouse happens about 2 centimeters from where the mouse pointer is

eg. to click on an NPC you have to move the mouse to the left till the icon shows

solution:

shake the window of the client a bit till it works fine again

Got a 3th gen MacBook, running OSX 10.5.2. (2.2GHz intel core 2 Duo, 1GB ram, 144mb intel Vram)

Works but before logging in for first time i needed to set:

#use_shadow_mapping= 0

#water_shader_quality= 0

and add:

#use_animation_program= 0

and delete all .vert files

Not here. works fine on my machine. using the trackpad and not a external mouse.

I fully understand that my system wanders far from the realm of supported configurations, but I figured I should make a report anyway... I have an Asus G1S-B2 running 10.5.2 (Kalyway 10.5.1 + vanilla combo update, toh 9.2.0 sleep kernel, and a few misc kexts from 10.5.1, 10.5.0, and 10.4.8 for good measure) with the Leopard Graphics Update. Processor is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (cpus=1 though... workaround for a stupid BIOS bug). I have 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. My video card is an nVidia Geforce 8600M GT 256 MB (CI/QE and all that goodness). I deleted el.ini prior to running 1.6.0.1a the first time.

firstly, backspace does not work in any of the entry fields in the misc tab of the options window. I think it's because pword_keypress in widgets.c doesn't check for 127 (taking a hint from text_field_keypress).

second up, a crash on IP while trying to click on some vegetables (I may have been rotating the camera, my mouse-wheel/button is very touchy). I forgot to save my error and infos logs. sorry :(. The last line of chat_log was:

If the crashes were caused by my weird system, then I am very sorry for wasting your time. I'm pretty sure the backspace thing is an actual bug though.

edit: removed probably useless stuff from the boxes because they were making the forum page very wide...

Yeah, you are really on your own with this one.

This is something that we can look into. Also, Macs lack ins and del for turning the character, so we need a reasonable alternative. Fedora, Florian, and I can chat about this.

Ok, here's one that's really stumping me, and even making me question my sanity. I haven't upgraded my machine since my last bug report, so I'm still running 10.4.11 on a Powerbook G4 15" (Stock except for an extra 1Gb RAM). If it's a video problem, my video card info's below (the ATI one is the Mac).

Unfortunately, I don't think I can provide a useful error log. When I'm running 1.60a, and am in the 3d environment (i.e. the normal gameplay view) there is a repeating chirping sound. Even when I have my system on mute. It sounds to me like a hard drive or dvd read-head moving. If I switch to the map or chat history screens, the sound stops. It doesn't happen at all in 1.50. I've watched in System Monitor, and disk usage, memory usage, etc. stay constant. The S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk Utility doesn't indicate a failing drive; I don't see this behaviour in any other app either.

If it'd be at all useful, I took a short mpg with my camera and uploaded it to my guild site, accessible here. You can see what happens as I switch from the 3d mode in Glacmor to the map, and then later to the chat. It's accessible at: http://www.freewebs.com/elalchemist/MOV00191.MPG

If I'm just crazy, let me know and I'll follow Boognish's suggestion and turn the stereo up!

Just got a chance to download this and try it, working fairly good so far! Thanks so much to all who help bring EL to macs! :P

So far gameplay seems to work as it did on the previous client, however I've noticed a severe drop in frame-rate, and have been experiencing some lag problems that I only encounter when I'm running too many applications at once, yet right now I mostly only have EL open.

Mac OS X version 10.4.11

uhh... I'm not sure what other info is relevant :medieval:

I know exactly how you feel...i went mad to find what it is and still i dont get why it does so. However go under video tab and enable new_selection, it should fix it.

Pressing fn+backspace on my keyboard turns the character anti-clockwise.

Only other strange thing I have noticed is that my el.ini file kept getting overwritten each time I restarted the client and I had to manually add #use_animation_program=0 each time, locking the file fixed the problem obviously, but I am just concerned that I am doing something wrong as no one else has reported this.

same issue here. You can rename all the .vert files under EternalLands.app/Contents/Resources/data/shaders to something else and you will have uvp 0 everytime you log.

3 problems, i pmed florian about it :

1. Is known i think : All animated stuffs (players / monsters) are black : no textures. Happened once already when titanium armor came ingame i was told to use the path "./"

2. Maybe related to 1. since no textures, but i don't think so : my fps went down.

---1 person in map ~30 fps

---3 people in map ~14-17 fps

---@ beam : ~5 fps

3. Right click to change mouse icon dosn't work. Only works when I open inventory window, or on the quick bar on the right of the window :)

My computer is :

Macbook Pro

Mac OS X version 10.4.11

2 GHz Intel Core Duo

1Go Ram 667 MHz DDR2

graphic card : ATI Radeon X1600 - 256 Mo Ram

There you go.

Right click doesn't work with some functions such as talking to NPC or trade

No sound

iMac

Mac OSX version 10.4.11

2 GHz Intel Core Duo

1 GB 667 MHz RAM

ATI Radeon X1600 OpenGL Engine

ATI Tech

Open GL version: 2.0 ATI-1.4.56

Edit: I found other el.ini in other folders. Deleted four in total and now everything except sound runs fine (so far).

Edit: I have to enter %use_animation_program=0 every time I log on. I see above that this has something to do with locking commands, but I'm not sure how to change el.ini any other way. Could someone tell me how to do this?

I know exactly how you feel...i went mad to find what it is and still i dont get why it does so. However go under video tab and enable new_selection, it should fix it.

As delightful as hearing the sweet silence clicking that does, it also crashes about 1s after selecting "New Selection." The error result seems to be:

What exactly does "New Selection" do? Perhaps I've got another setting that conflicts with it.

mmm...for those who cant click properly try to disable new_selection under video tab (option panel). Then if you experience a frame drop with strange sounds coming out from hard disk, you most probably have a G4. Live with it for a while. In alternative you can follow these instructions:

- download this (if clicking the link doesnt work, paste it in a new browser tab)

- unzip el_osx.zip

- copy the unzipped file "el_osx" inside EternalLands.app/Contents/MacOS/

- inside that dir there is an "EternalLands" file, rename it to something else (i.e. EternalLands_old)

- now rename the "el_osx" you copied to "EternalLands"

- you now have the client i'm using, fixed for G4 (and with sky too :()

- start the client and enable new_selection

If you cant understand the instructions, dont follow them

For those with no textures, you can go to EternalLands.app/Contents/Resources/data/shaders/ and rename all the .vert files to something else.

In alternative, open the <yourhomedir>/Library/Application Support/EternalLands/main/el.ini, add a line with #use_animation_program= 0 and save it. But you have to do this everytime you launch EL.

Hope this works.

We could add the UVP option to the options tab on mac, since it causes the most problems for us :(

Fedora, what changed did you make to your "g4 special" client?

We could #ifdef those into the code as well.
