Pre RC 2

Recommended Posts

Download it here:

http://www.eternal-lands.com/el_160_pre_rc_2.exe

Follow the instructions from here: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40681

Any issues, post them here please.

P.S. I forgot to rename the el.exe as something else, so if it crashes for you and can't play the game, just download the patch from the update page.

If you didn't install it yet, make sure to rename el.exe as something else, such as el_old.exe before installing the pre rc.

Is anyone testing the Linux version? I can compile from CVS and have a go, if needed.

Rehdon

There are some people testing the Linux version, but since most of the developers use Linux, most of the Linux specific bugs are long fixed already.

Umm .... really?

Acording to those instructions it generates new executables (the previous RC indeed did so) leaving the original el.exe. However RC2 overwirtes el.exe

Better to warn about this. If it crashes for some ppl they will need to reinstall the last el patch.

Other than that it seems to be working fine for me although I haven't tested in depth.

EDIT: lol, as i was writing this ent edited the original post reporting this same issue, thanks ent.

If it crashes, make sure you have the latest video drivers.

Ok, updated drivers to latest:

Driver Packaging Version 8.453-080122a-059344C-ATI

Catalyst® Version 08.2

Provider ATI Technologies Inc.

2D Driver Version 6.14.10.6764

2D Driver File Path System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Video/{661D003E-7E0A-436F-A5AF-B33655C2AB09}/0000

OpenGL Version 6.14.10.7278

Catalyst® Control Center Version 2008.0122.1519.27310

Now it crashes while initializing opengl:

(It starts in full screen for some reason)

I tried all the clients, worked fine for me after I updated my driver, no crash at all so far. I didnt find anyone posting this kinda a probs so I am posting this. There r few things I found, dont know if its a major probs, but have a look.

1. At almost every map I went, I found that the distant sky that I am able to see through the mountains and the end of map, seems to flicker (like changing from Grey to Black and viceversa, that is happening very rapidly).

Flickering Sky 1

Flickering Sky 2

2. When I am walking, my char seem to be shakey (not smooth as before). But while when I am standing I found that others walking around me r just fine.

Except this 2 everything is just fine so far. Water is excellent.

My Config:

Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz (2mb L2 cache)

MSI Neo-F P965

Nvidia 7900GT 256mb (Driver version 169.21)

Loaded fine, make a few FE, then went into the mines in EV, crashed as soon as i clicked cork. No special error messages. Downloaded and installed the patch from the update page, worked fine.

Instant crashing after login. Scenery just quickly flashes, then the client crashes (eh.. rhyme not on purpose). Poor man option is on, as always. Selection stops working if use_animation_program is disabled.

you can test this with el --use_animation_program=0 test

The actors are rendered with color 0,0,0 instead of a,b,127

+ there is an runtime error if the actor animation shader files are not found (I tried to rename them to disable the shader program)

I have tried all 3 clients and all 3 crashed

I tried all the clients

It appears in Pre RC 2, the only file updated|change was El.exe. I ran it and not the exes from the previous Pre RC.

So is everyone actually running the RC 2?

----

Anyway,

So far it is much faster, with everything! I still have more to test but this appears to be a profound performance increase.
