Pre RC client available, please download and test it

Recommended Posts

As usual, read the whole thing, and if you ask a question or report a bug that has been already explained here, you might get banned from the game for a week or so.

I made this RC as user friendly as possible, so here are the instructions:

1. Download the file from http://www.eternal-lands.com/el_160_pre_RC.exe

2. Install it in your EL folder.

3. The original el.exe is not affected* by this patch, so you can play the game with it, if you have trouble with the 3 clients.

4. There are 3 new el_*.exe files. One is the full one, the other is with the old selection, and, finally, one with the old selection and no water shaders. They are named in concordance with what they do.

5. Ideally, the full one should work (but don't expect to see nice water if your video card does not support shaders). If it crashes, try the old selections one, if that crashes too, try the old selection, no shaders.

6. Report any problems (crashes, incorrect behaviour, etc.)

*This patch includes all the new player/animal files with backface culling, but the old el.exe does not support that, so after installing this patch and use the old el.exe players and animals will look weird. Please do not report this problem here. There is no solution to it, other than reinstalling the game or not using the old el.exe, however it shouldn't be a really big deal anyway.

P.S. If your video card supports shaders, please go to the configuration menu, then the Video tab, and make sure the "Water shader quality" is 2.

Ent, what make flags are you using for your compile?

Reading below, I will try updating graphics drivers. BRB.

If crashes, please post the content of infos.log (only since the last session please).

One more thing: I would also like to hear reports from people that had no problems with it.

Labrat, can you try to do some debugging please?

My secondary system still runs Wincrap:

Athlon 2600+

nForce2 chipset

GeForce 6600GT

Windows XP Pro SP2

At first el_all.exe was crashing upon trying to render the graphics (just after log-in).

Updated to latest nVidia driver (released 19/12/07) and now it works fine :bow_arrow:

btw, client still reads "version 1.5.0" on initial splash screen.

So yeah, updated graphics drivers and all good :)

EDIT:

Here's a link to where u can get the latest nVidia graphics drivers from for those who are unsure:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

If the above link is still confusing because you're unsure of which nVidia GPU u have, so long as you are running Windows XP (english) you probably want this:

http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/169....nglish_whql.exe

Tried el_all and crashed when trying to activate shadow mapping. Also shadows appeared to make the water almost completely dark. Reflection made water opaque

Also tried el_old_selection. Same shadows / reflection issue. Shadow mapping did not crash the client though.

I was having the same issue as everyone else. Ended up doing as Korrode did and updated my drivers (even though I did so right before last client update) and now everything is working perfectly so far. I'm not saying this is the solution, but it did work for me.

A small bug;

If i right click on myself (or any char/monster) and change the cursor to the attack icon, then when i move the cursor over a bag or door it doesn't automatically change to the bag or door icon. I have to right click the bag/door to get it to become the right icon so i can use.

This bug exists for the pickaxe (harvesting icon) also, client doesnt auto-change to it when i hover over harvestables.

Okay I had those two problems between turning on the shadows and turning off the shadows (as explained in the posts). I had the frame and vertex buffer on. My system specs are as follows:

Acer Aspire 5100

AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 1.80 GHz

766 MB RAM

32 bit operating system

Windows Vista

ATI Radeon Xpress Series graphics card.

I discovered that when my FPS are low, instead of my shadows being disabled, the people and the animals go invisible (or white). When my FPS is high, I can see characters and animals fine. But the FPS have to be pretty high, somewhere above 20.

After further testing and driver install, everything seems to be working good except:

Water shader quality is uneditable and stays at 0, not sure if this is intentional

Also, related to what ghrae was saying:

At first, the shadows were flickering very oddly, originally mapped at 512, trying to raise it locks up el, no crash, but you have to end it manually. Putting 'Toggle frame buffer support' on fixes it.

Two systems:

Core 2 Duo 3GHz, Nvidia Quado FX 570

- No problems with any of the 3 builds. Selection does work with el_all.exe

- I'm using a home built CVS now and will report if anything goes wrong

Pentium M 1.73GHz, Intel i915GM

- No fight cursor on animals in el_all.exe (tested deer and rabbit in VOTD). el_old_selection works fine

- water shaders do not work because of missing hardware support

- vertex shaders do not work either: 'Error, line 225: instruction limit exceeded (max = 128, used = 158).' in file 'shaders/anim.vert'

Water shader quality is uneditable and stays at 0, not sure if this is intentional

This happens if the shaders are not supported on your hardware.

Check infos.log which will not mention anything about shaders in contrast to the logs posted here and check error_log.txt for errors.
