I'll make a configurable patch on berlios pending their approval.

Patch is now on berlios, I just died to a cyclops testing it, I had no "you failed to flee" messages during the fight.

Well, what I think we should do is not use the client path finding if the distance is less than, say, 30 steps or so. This should solve the problem with fleeing from fights, no?

The 2 issues are a little unrelated (even though it is really one issue in a way). If you mapwalk and get attacked by a player or creature you have a much better chance of surviving the encounter if you stop and fight than if you continually try to flee as you will not be attacking.
