there's no pain in the butt mods either, for those of us who like to curse & spam a lot :P

thats a great reason NOT to join that PK server :)

I can think of a few others too btw..but thats more selfisch reasons..one of em is I miss quit a few ppl who moved to the PK server..hoping and praying for their return soon..:)

Jez

Yes, and all the banned people there is another.

Well, maybe I'll give it a try. :icon8:

Maybe I can find one of the other 12 players online.

I think the whole thread has gone slightly off topic.. It seems to have moved from how to attract more players to the pk server to how to put them off going !!!!.

Piper is right , maybe it would help to change the name to something other than "PK server" , as this reinforces peoples idea that you die alot.

On the contrary. I find the name "PK server" very accurate. This is the server where everything goes around PKing, where you can get PKed almost everywhere. Very accurate. It has nothing to do with 'dying a lot'. It indicates the sole purpose of this server, which is PKing.

@Piper

o less rules to follow and no mods there

o less idiots there, since you have to pay 5 bucks/cant just make a new account and annoy other players every now and then

I see what you mean now. :P Less, you say. :)

Seriously, what is all the hostility against the PK server? The point of the thread is NOT to find those three or four people who are so bitter about it that they have to reiterate over and over and over why they would never come here, blah blah blah. The point of this thread is to come up with ideas for how to attract new people. So far Conavar is the only non-pk server player who has added anything constructive. Unless you play the pk server, are interesting in finding out more about it, or have suggestions or ideas about how we can attract new players, please stop the bitching.

As it stands, these forum threads do not paint an accurate picture of what the server is like mostly because so many people who don't know what they are talking about keep insisting that it's this way or that way. It's not. There are many of us on these forums who have spent quite a bit of time over there who are trying to say what it IS like and the fact that we are all agreeing against you should say something.

What I find the oddest is that there are so many people who want to pick fights about how much they don't want to go over there and fight.

-- Add a PK Server page to the main EL website.

-- Include info/guide to switching servers on that page.

-- Describe the PK server as a gameplay style option and encourage new players looking for a PK-oriented game to try the free main server as their "trial account." EDIT: optional trial account.

-- Emphasize on the PK server page that it only costs US$5. EDIT: In a world where a $30 one-time payment is considered cheap (compared to other monthly subscription games), I think that $5 price tag will attract a lot of players who are willing to pay for a game but are unfamiliar with EL.

-- Update all promotional descriptions of EL (that are used on listing sites, online and magazine reviews, etc) to include the PK server option and describe EL as a free MMORPG that has a secondary subscription version (ONLY US$5!!!) that is more PK-focussed for those who are looking for that.

All the above on the age-old advertising wisdom that:

"He who has a thing to sell

And goes and whispers in a well,

Will not make as many dollars

As he who climbs a tree and hollers."

To Sygon :icon8: : Some people are angry and bitter about PK, true, but I don't think the lack of people on the server is due to that. I think it is more lack of interest/motivation. Everyone knows how I feel about PK, but the real reason I have no plans to try the PK server for the foreseeable future is that I really don't see any real difference between it and the main server. Now that I learn it is not really 100% PK everywhere, I see even less difference and less reason to try it.

Piper lists things that he sees as good features of the PK server, but I agree with Neimand that these are not really motivating. To me, they read as just a list of reasons why being on the PK server will not be a problem, but that is not the same as a postive reason for me to take it up as a new activity. Yes, I would like to have the multiplay option, but I don't want it enough right now to go to the trouble of switching my game or keeping track of two games (on two servers).

I'm not saying that I will never, never, never try it, but I am going to wait and see how the PK server evolves. If it becomes something where I see a real difference from the main server, and if that difference is interesting to me, and if PK server ever offers a style of play that I cannot make for myself on the main server, then I might give it a try. But right now, as Gertrude Stein said about Cleveland, "There's no 'there' there."

In the meantime, the main server is keeping me occupied with fun play and with exploring how the game works and can be made to work. Rather than play with the as yet unformed systems of the PK server, I'm more interested in experimenting with aspects of the main server that I think are under-utilized. EDIT (again, sorry): Once I've gone as far as I think the main server can take me, or if I can come up with an RP story for my character to live on the PK server, then that will be another reason why I might consider joining it.

For now, I think the best bet to get players onto the PK server is to attract new players to it.

Im surprised so little fighters/pkers wanted to try out pk server.

Reasons why it should be nice for pk/fighter:

1) New server and 100a/d limit= no endless grinding for lvls, u can quit for months and after u come back u r still strong, no preasure to lvl.

2) 1 sec cooldown= long fights- u can perform a nice fight even against much stronger player, mixing isnt that much pain in the butt- unless u hate to mix :P

3) Cheap rostos, only 2k instead of 16k like on the main server= small loss if u die.

4) No expensive gear required for pking :P

5) Spawns r ALWAYS free, if they r not ask ur friend/guildie to make it free for u :P

6) Very easy to get gc coz of multiplay allowed, using 2 characters u can harvest very fast at the same time u train- u dont need to spend days/weeks for money-making.

7) 5 seconds rule- if u train in a room/sub-map and some1 comes to pk u he cant attack u for 5 seconds after he entered the room, u have plenty of time to flee/kill monster u train on and beam :)

8) Summon stones work only with 25% chance, no1 will summon a smegging zoo on u coz of stones- summon skill is more important for combat.

9) No moderation, do i need to say more?

Look on the bright side, you can say as much love & peace stuff as you like in channel 1 on PK server and only get killed slightly more often for it. There is no one who puts a STFU on you for off-topic.

I think masterpiter gave you enough reasons to join the PK server.

And you can make 35 alch in a day :icon13:

Mixing is so pr0 on PK server that even scarr and 'the one with many names' are mix0rs on the PK server, would you believe it?

First of all please take no offense, this is just my opinion and an explanation why i don't play on PK server.

I was also tempted to go to PK server and i am no fighter.

But there are things that i really don't like about it.

To be more precise, it's almost all what MasterPiter pointed as pros.

1. no cooldown (yeah i know it's 1 second)

2. multiplaying

---> these two things are discouraging for me...

Why it was made easier to level ? It is the hard work that makes you level and feel good about each achieved level (at least for me).

It is the ego and the competition that drives you to harvest and train for hours, just to become better then someone else. You know that when you get something easy, it's not so valuable...

3. no bots :P

---> why this should be considered as pro ?

The biggest pro i see on PK sever is that you can not buy armors/EFEs....etc in shop, but this pro is killed by multiplaying feature ...

I am afraid of dieing, but not that much that i couldn't live with it. I just don't see enough reasons to go there.

Why it was made easier to level ?

Its different, not easier, if u know how to lvl and u do it smart it might seem easier.

If some1 likes to mule/harv for hours(days)then buy mountain of pofs then mix for hours then np, he or she can do that on main.

Here on pk server difficulty with mixing is to gather reasources so that no1 pk u too much, mixing is easier and way cheaper :P

3. no bots :D

---> why this should be considered as pro ?

B-coz u can actually sell ur stuff to players, not like on the market channel on main server, here u just announce on channel 1 and ppl see ur advertisement( unless it dissapeared between some1's flames :) ).

(sorry for bad spelling, pk server is bad for my english, maybe except insults-vocabulary :)

Well as it was written by some people, it looks like it is not really a problem to gather resources (i don't have an account on PK server so i never tried it, but this is the impression i got from what other people say). You can have alts, you can guard your alts, your guild/friends can guard you and your alts. This way you gather ingreds for mixing MUCH faster then on main server. I agree that if you would have only one char to do it and there would be no safe areas, then it would be about getting ingreds.

Harving with for example 3 alts silver here is different from harving with 3 alts on main server(dont wanna talk about rule-breaking aspect :P )- here u can be pked and even if u guard ur alts with strong fighter char he also can be pked when u r on ur alt( 3-4x harm ) not to mention ppl can attack ur alts and not ur fighter ;)

Bigger risk-bigger benefit.

Harving with for example 3 alts

this is sick, why not with 30 ?

another reason not to join imo, but kudos to all who enjoy such way of playing, have fun

you dont have to own alts to be able to play. people have them, some dont, personal choice.

only gives you a disadvantage over people that have like 5.

this is a bit off topic but I would gladly see the PK environment where you could advance mostly by winning fights rather than by muling resources - that would be something you could truly call "PK server"

That is a good idea... all skills xp only go towards xp in there own field. the only way to get OA xp is to pk someone :) but debate for another time me thinks

edit: then again unless the combat system was changed to give a base XP value (based on someones level) upon death it wouldnt really work :P or maybe the pk points system could be more used on the pk server to give a boost or neg to players abilities ;)
