Predownload the Windows update, and Linux data

Recommended Posts

Ok, first things first:

There is no Linux or OSX binary yet, but I am releasing the data so that those of you that compile your own CVS can have it.

Torg tagged the CVS for the release: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38568

Ok, so here is the data file for Linux and OSX (again, no binary)

http://el.beplacid.net/downloads/el_data.zip

The Windows installer is here:

http://el.beplacid.net/downloads/el_150_install.exe

The sound is here:

http://el.beplacid.net/downloads/sound.zip

The sound needs to be unpacked in the EL directory.

Note: This client is incompatible with the current server, so just download it, and don't install it until AFTER we say it is OK to do so (at the time of the update).

Ok, 2 questions please.

2. What is the requirements for my pc ;)

Looking forward to the launch.

Okay, call me stupid, but I do not understand much of that.

Perhaps I should rephrase, what is the minimum requirements.

Not all of us are computer fundis you know

In fact, I asked two simple questions. It is that hard to give a decent reply?

I have just upgraded my char, now I have doubts.

I'm on Dial-up, so downloading stuff is pretty slow. Pardon my ignorance here, but is the sound package released with RC3 compatible with the official release, or have the Sound Files/XML files been updated?

The sound package has been updated since, but only slightly. You can use the one in RC3, but if you want the most up to date and "official" pack, then download the new one. Won't hurt you either way though.

Actually Suncie, and i'm not trying to be mean here, your first question is not simple, it actually doesn't make sense.

I believe you've just got your terms wrong, i think you mean to ask:

I have downloaded the RC3 test client, do i need to download again?

And the answer is yes you do, hope this helps

Thank you Korrode, yes, that is what I wanted to know ;)

Ok, thank you. I'm sure I'll get the official Package eventually, but I may not have time to download it before the Server is updated. :)

Thanx guys, downloaded and ready to update, watching the "News of Game Updates" thread. :devlish:

Just one suggestion for future updates: It might be helpful to name the sound.zip file something more descriptive and version-oriented. Perhaps "el_150_sound.zip"

Now would that make me more left-brain oriented or right-brain oriented? ;)

Believe my gray matter is dis-oriented! :)

I didn't pick up on whether or not this client may safely be tried on the Test Server.

Ent's original post mentions it is not compatible with "current server," so I have just downloaded it without installing (to avoid temptation!)

I'll wait patiently til the server is ready, no problem! If el_150 can be used on the test server, and player input is wanted, I'll give it a go. Not without clarification on that point.

Regardless, keep up the fantastic work! *Dvarf bows to Devs* :icon13::D

Mugwump... I'm very very glad that you shared it with us. :)

Anyway, if you want to, I'm sure you can try it on the test server and post here, or in the RC3 thread when you find any problems.

If you had to download the sound even if not using it, it would have been placed in the main download, no?
Nope.

It's very common for large download packages to be broken into multiple parts to make downloading easier (especially true if you have a bad connections that cause downloads to abort). The sound download is actually larger than all the rest of the client combined (client, maps, graphics, etc, etc). It makes good sense to break it into two download packages.

I am glad to know that sound is optional as I almost never use sound/music with games. Not using it will also help client performance (which is already on the edge for me).

Umm, we live in 2007 (almost 2008), not 1997.

VERY few deveopers split their downloads in parts, mainly because most of the people have broadband, and most browsers are capable of resuming downloads.

Urgh? Most games I know that can be downloaded that are > 350MB can always be download in a total package or in splitted archives. And it's not because more and more people are getting broadband that everyone has a reliable connection/router/modem/networkadapter/computer...
