Windows RC 3

Not sure if I'm supposed to post this here but in srm around coords 155,224 that whole strip of harvestables, if I step anywhere on the dark colored soil I sink into the ground & become invisible. I was able to kill a panda while I was down there though lol.

 

Also while harvesting henbane in that same spot I hit a teleport nexus & was unable to harvest the henbane again intil I went into storage & came back out. No matter where I stood I got the message "You are too far away! Get closer!"

 

Edit: Sorry not too sure about that last part now, I think maybe only some of the flowers are harvestable for me, like the first little bunch. The rest all give the "too far away" message.

 

Edit #2 ok same strip of flowers, I noticed that it is only henbane, rue, & mullien there now where there used to be many types of flowers. I get the too far away message from most of the plants but on 2 different patches of rue I was able to harvest daffodils & blue star flower.

First off, nice job :blush:

 

The idea of command line seerver options is cool, because then I can just make different shortcuts for the test server and the main server :icon13:

 

Anyway, I don't see in bugs at all, but I noticed a lot of enhancements/bug fixes.

 

I'll post again if I find any :)

 

P.S. oh, and this new client seems to run much smoother then the RC1 did with sound on, sweet :laugh:

Ok i know the problem wtih water steps is quite minor. And also hard to fix since when this happen i am walking one foot in water one on the ground :) apart from this i didnt find anything bad at all. But maybe you will want to check this sound file "steps-on-grit02" i can hear something like a drone in it on higher volume. Not a problem of my speakers :]

 

BTW I know its quite an insignificant thing to post about but i just thought we are in the phase when even the smallest bugs should be chacked for the official release to come :icon13:

I don't know if I should edit my last post again in case it gets over looked. There are 3 spots in the cemetary in SRM that show henbane but when u harvest it you get blue star flower. These are the coords for as close as I could get to the 3 locations: 262,245 - 270,252 & 271,236. (should I be reporting this stuff?)

 

Also in both srm storage & tg storage I did not get the sound effect when I ate fruit, I did get the crunch of the bones though :) I will start testing all of the different storages & will all different types of food. Am I correct in assuming that they should all work in the storages?

This sounds like either you have the old files or you are playing on the main server. Given that you are hearing sound, it suggests you are not connecting to the test server as is required. When you start the client and you get the green text, it should say "Test server". If it says "Welcome to Eternal Lands...", then you are on the wrong server.

Yes, you are correct in assuming that. It should play whenever you do the "use" action on an item irrespective of where you are located.

Actually, there have been command line server options forever and therefore you could have done this with the previous/current version too (and I did). You just need to set "-sp 2001" as the command line option. ;-)

The bone crunching sound works most of the time but not always especially if I am poisoned (love that sound). I got the fruit sound a couple of times & the veggies didnt make any sound inside the storageat all.

 

I restored inside the storage 5 times but only got the sound effect once, and when moving srs from my storage into my inventory I got the effect that you get when you drink a potion. I moved the pots a few times & it only happened once.

 

I don't know if this tells you anything but heres the screen I got when I logged on.

Nope, that is correct. With the map problems, we'll have to wait for Roja to confirm if the server or client files are out of date, or its a bug.

Hmmm, this sounds like you are having troubles playing sounds in general. Can you check your error_log.txt for me. It should be at My Documents\Eternal Lands\error_log.txt.

I have been getting water sounds on some bridges & docks as well, but not all. Is this also because of the maps not being uploaded to the server yet? Should I hold off on testing for now?

Yes that's a known bug, it doesn't last if you change a map or relog I think though..so i'ts nothing major.

I seem to be unable to type |@#{^{}...

I use an azerty keyboard, which means the above symbols are typed using Alt Gr + 1234567890 (with exceptions because of double keys)

 

I noticed that Alt Gr now has the Ctrl function... Alt Gr + 1 for example no longer gives me |, instead it makes me consume the first item in my inventory (just like Ctrl + 1).

 

Blee seems to have the same problem. Hope we didn't do anything wrong :/

 

I haven't found bugs concerning the sound though. Seems to work perfectly.

Did you change the resolution or switch from fullscreen to window or the other way around?

I deleted the Eternal Lands test1 folder from the previous test then installed the RC3 file and the sound files. I modified the shortcut to select the test server then ran the shortcut. I just did a quick session to see if the install went ok. Things appear good.

 

I thought I should check my error log. Here is what it had:

Most of the messages there are not errors, just diagnostic or debugging info.

As for the invalid data directory, that is my fault, I included my el.ini in the test. But it's good, because this way we can make sure the game correctly finds the files even if the data directory is wrong, which I think will happen many times in the release (not everyone installs it in the same place).

Probably an unnecessary post, but I have to say it.

 

I started a character on RC3 to run through all the routines last night and come 1:00 I went to bed. Instead of shutting down the computer as usual (it being in my humble room and the LED's can keep me awake) I sat down at beam, turned the volume up, and activated a blank screen saver. This allowed me to listen to the new birdsong sounds while I fell asleep.

 

I just now woke up and have to say I haven't slept that good in years!! :D

So far I've only been to IP and VoTD (Molgor and Liliana) for rabbits, beavers, rats, brownies, and lilacs. Everything has been flawless.

I'm not particularly concerned about the sound effects. These are just things that came to mind:

 

It occurred to me that if the water/ground sounds become an issue, possibly implement a muddy shlurp sound and allow a volunteer to go map by map to add it to questionable tiles. (I'd be willing.)

 

The veggie and bread eating sounds remind me suspiciously of three chomps on a mouthful of potato chips, the flat crunchy ones not the long fat ones. It's a common activity and might grind on some ears.

 

The skeleton sounds are so close to the sound of a 'rain stick' that I can't get it out of my mind! It's very appropriate, but some change to the sound could make it less musical and more of a 'dead bone clatter'.

 

Adjusting the sound values won't tone down my 'Eeyargh'ing and 'Heeyagh'ing without turning down more interesting sounds. I'm not much of an emoter in RL when cornered other than letting loose with profanities or diplomacy (which always works :happy: .) I feel silly pwning a beaver, deer, fox, dragon, etc. while grunting like a samurai! This is probably just me, but it would be nice to be able to control that specific volume. My fluffy felines tear ass out of the room when they hear it!

 

Might I suggest a set of sound files for the NPC's? Just two for each type of NPC and only a mumbled greeting and goodbye. I can't assume I know how this would be programmed, but the sounds would do a lot to personalize the game.

 

The above was only picky imaginings, I already love the sound effects! The reason I bring up any changes is just part of human nature. "If it exists, we can make it better!" That one I did not make up! Stupido Erecto figured that out 20,000 years ago.... thus, us! ;)

I've noticed some halting movement different from the main server. As my FPS is normally under 12, I am not surprised. On the main server even when my FPS is 3 or 2, my movement remains regular. On the test server with no crowd around, my FPS can go over 15 (which is soooo smooooth!) however my movement seems to stop for a tenth of a second or two and then continue. It may be lag, which I've never identified before with such a low FPS, but has not happened previously on the test server, just this client.

All in all, I love it! None of the above changes that. The upgrade gets along with my Stanlely Steamer machine, which means I'll be begging my landlord for $5 to PayPal Entropy for a try at the PK Server! I will continue to follow through the obvious routines on the tester and post whatever I think of. Don't take it as a demand, all I mention here are thoughts and not necessary for my life to achieve perfection.

 

I gave up on that decades ago! :P

This might just be due to all the new files the game is working with, though just a guess from experience. If so, it is something that goes away over time.

A minor point on the installation - the License Agreement (you know, that dialog that pops up and everyone clicks "I agree" without actually reading it?) has a lot of formatting problems. Here's one example of how it looks on my screen. The problem is that the dialog is just a word or two narrower than the lines of text so there's lots of 1 or 2 word wraps.

 

5. If something goes bad with this game (ie. it doesn't work on your computer, it crashes

your

computer, it kills your GF/BF/cat/familly/etc. it is not our fault, and you agree NOT to sue

us.)

If you kill someone because you played this game, it is also not our fault, but your

parents fault! :omg: No, really, I am tired of seeing on TV how this or that kid killed

someone,

and s/he justified it like: "I played this or that game, and I thought it would be k3w1 to

do it too,

in real life".

Anyway, this software contains no code that is harmful to your computer. That is, it's

not like

we put some HDD formatting code, or something. Normally, nothing bad should happen

by simply

running this software.

 

Yea, I know, minor point. But quality is in the details.
