0ctane Report post Posted July 11, 2007 Well, since Macintosh OS X does not run on AMD, I guess I have to vote for intel. But, you left out SPARC, PowerPC, MIPS, ....
Glimbrin Report post Posted July 11, 2007 I would have voted for AMD as I do prefer them but Intel are the only ones to release an open driver for their gfx card.
Entropy Report post Posted July 11, 2007 I think that a closed source driver that is effective is preferable to an open source one that is not so effective.
xbox360 Report post Posted July 11, 2007 AMD for life!
Hannibal Report post Posted July 12, 2007 AMD, but unfortunately Intel came with my computer.
jamincollins Report post Posted July 12, 2007 Definitely AMD. They may not always be the fastest or most efficient in power consumption, but somehow I feel better buying an AMD chip than an Intel.
exvitermini Report post Posted July 12, 2007 I think AMD have better prices and do the same job well not for all purposes but for almost all
scarr Report post Posted July 12, 2007 intel ownz u
agis29 Report post Posted July 12, 2007 Amd of course. Â @ Glimbrin: I love and support open source but Ms office is still better than Openoffice.org.
BloodSucker Report post Posted August 1, 2007 (edited) There sould be another option "both". Â I had 2 AMD CPU's, and 2 Intel's. Â 1st: Intel Celeron 300MHz 2nd: AMD Athlon 1200MHz 3rd: AMD Athlon 2500+ 4th: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300. Â I could say that I preffer AMD, but atm the Intel C2D CPUs are way better than AMD X2 (faster, less power consumption) so I just bought one of them (also it was cheaper than the equivalent AMD unit o.0). Â I guess that I'm kinda tired of all that "I love this, hate that" games. I'm just buying what's better. Less emotions, more logical thinking. Garnoo Report post Posted August 2, 2007 AMD rulz!!
korrode Report post Posted October 2, 2007 (edited) Never forget, if it wasn't for AMD, you'd be paying at least 3 times more for Intel's processors and Intel's current product range would be half as powerful as they are now. Â AMD started forcing Intel's prices down as early as the K6-2 VS Slot 1 Celeron. And the release of the original Athlon and it's evolutions over the following years forced Intel to stop holding back technology so they could compete. Â Even if your an Intel lover, you still "owe" AMD. Â My primary workstation has been powered by AMD since early 1999, over 8 years. 80%+ of my business clients get AMD powered systems. They've been flawless... AMD forever! Edited October 2, 2007 by Korrode
Mugwump Report post Posted October 2, 2007 I voted Intel, but can't for the life of me remember why! Something I decided way back that probably doesn't even compute any more.... I do remember hearing AMD was better for gaming, and I was always concentrating on database and web design, no video or music heavy work. Â Now I just want a newer, better machine and don't care if it's made by Mattel out of marzipan!!
Sayre Report post Posted October 2, 2007 There's a difference? Â S.
Vanyel Report post Posted October 2, 2007 As long as AMD doesn't come up with efficient multicore CPU the choice is very limited. Intel's C2D are just better than any AMD at the same price. If not above problem I would probably stay with AMD, 'cause I like this brand. Let's hope AMD comes up with a good solution soon... or we will be back to old, good times with Intel being the only one serious CPU provider... with properly HIGH prices:/
cycrosism Report post Posted December 21, 2007 AMD is better my AMD athlon 64x dual core is better then my Intel core 2 duo

nathanstenzel Report post Posted May 11, 2011 Well, since Macintosh OS X does not run on AMD, I guess I have to vote for intel. But, you left out SPARC, PowerPC, MIPS, .... I think it is a shame that Mac failed to keep making their own CPU for their pc's and laptops. Â Never forget, if it wasn't for AMD, you'd be paying at least 3 times more for Intel's processors and Intel's current product range would be half as powerful as they are now. Â AMD started forcing Intel's prices down as early as the K6-2 VS Slot 1 Celeron. They've been flawless... AMD forever! Agreed. Long live competition. Â I also like AMD. I have used both. As for the ATI vs NVIDIA topic that goes along with AMD vs INTEL, not sure if I care as long as I can install the drivers easily and have them work right. (has to wonder if Korrode assembles PC's for folk or something....gossip tell or message me?)
Cyrano Report post Posted May 11, 2011 I've had both AMD & Intel systems in the past, I prefer AMD systems as I've had less problems with them. I agree that having two companies helps keep prices competitive and has driven improvements in performance and energy efficiency that may not have taken place for considerably longer. hussam Report post Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) I used a AMD for so many years. it was fast even if old. But I recently switched to Intel. Edited May 11, 2011 by hussam
