There sould be another option "both".

I had 2 AMD CPU's, and 2 Intel's.

1st: Intel Celeron 300MHz

2nd: AMD Athlon 1200MHz

3rd: AMD Athlon 2500+

4th: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300.

I could say that I preffer AMD, but atm the Intel C2D CPUs are way better than AMD X2 (faster, less power consumption) so I just bought one of them (also it was cheaper than the equivalent AMD unit o.0).

I guess that I'm kinda tired of all that "I love this, hate that" games. I'm just buying what's better. Less emotions, more logical thinking.

Never forget, if it wasn't for AMD, you'd be paying at least 3 times more for Intel's processors and Intel's current product range would be half as powerful as they are now.

AMD started forcing Intel's prices down as early as the K6-2 VS Slot 1 Celeron.

And the release of the original Athlon and it's evolutions over the following years forced Intel to stop holding back technology so they could compete.

Even if your an Intel lover, you still "owe" AMD.

My primary workstation has been powered by AMD since early 1999, over 8 years. 80%+ of my business clients get AMD powered systems. They've been flawless... AMD forever!

I voted Intel, but can't for the life of me remember why! Something I decided way back that probably doesn't even compute any more.... I do remember hearing AMD was better for gaming, and I was always concentrating on database and web design, no video or music heavy work.

Now I just want a newer, better machine and don't care if it's made by Mattel out of marzipan!! :(

As long as AMD doesn't come up with efficient multicore CPU the choice is very limited. Intel's C2D are just better than any AMD at the same price. If not above problem I would probably stay with AMD, 'cause I like this brand.

Let's hope AMD comes up with a good solution soon... or we will be back to old, good times with Intel being the only one serious CPU provider... with properly HIGH prices:/

Well, since Macintosh OS X does not run on AMD, I guess I have to vote for intel. But, you left out SPARC, PowerPC, MIPS, ....

I think it is a shame that Mac failed to keep making their own CPU for their pc's and laptops.

Agreed. Long live competition.

I also like AMD. I have used both. As for the ATI vs NVIDIA topic that goes along with AMD vs INTEL, not sure if I care as long as I can install the drivers easily and have them work right.

(has to wonder if Korrode assembles PC's for folk or something....gossip tell or message me?)

I've had both AMD & Intel systems in the past, I prefer AMD systems as I've had less problems with them. I agree that having two companies helps keep prices competitive and has driven improvements in performance and energy efficiency that may not have taken place for considerably longer.

I used a AMD for so many years. it was fast even if old. But I recently switched to Intel.

I'm an I.T. consultant/technician and system builder specialising in SME solutions. I provide custom built new workstations and new servers (both Linux (Debian) and Windows+Exchange servers (usually SBS)) and on-going support.
