My machine does the map changes a lot better on this. No gray void while changing. Nice, clean. Also, C2 maps were "difficult" for my onboard nVidia chipset, but good, clean framerate now. Thanks for the 64 bit binary ;)

WARNING: the characters on test server are about 2-3 weeks old. If you have spells in the spellbar that you didn't have then, you'll kick yourself off pretty quick :/

you're sure you have those files in your new DATA_DIR ? if so, you shouldn't get those errors (unless there's a permissions problem, which I doubt)

mutter. that's normal, because the eye-candy debugging information is still turned on (it should have been turned off. but it won't hurt anything)

Hi all,

same problem as kabuya here, I have both "Enable eye candy" and "Toggle special effects" on (and "Enable blood" as well), but nothing happens, the PNG images are there but they're not loaded. I didn't change the dir to explicitly adjust to the new path (it's commented out so the client should just look in the directory it is started from I assume). Permissions are ok (read/write for owner, read for everybody else).

I also got these errors:

[09:46:22] Error: Can't open file "./tmp/temp000.dat"
[09:46:22] Error: Can't open file "commands.lst"

[texture loading errors here]

[EDIT no. 1]

Ooops, I missed the part about "test it on the test server", going to try and see if anything changes!

[EDIT no. 2]

Ok, tested both under the test and the regular server, no difference at all, identical error messages.

Yes, I have make new directory, unzip the files, move el*.bin in el_install, see textures/eye_candy/* exist and is readable, check el.ini again for data_dir...

[09:46:22] Error: Can't open file "./tmp/temp000.dat"
[09:46:22] Error: Can't open file "commands.lst"

./tmp/tmp000.dat is part of auto update, and that file will never be created until the client version is changed to 1.4.0 when the time comes. You can safely ignore it.

commands.lst is the file that contains a list like #guild_info etc that allows you to type in (for example) #gu then press ctrl-space to "tab complete" the rest of the command. If it isn't there said tab completion won't work, but again it is safe to ignore.

If the eye candy textures cannot load but they are placed in proper directory, you are probably missing libpng12.dll. Look for this file in your EL folder.

libpng12.dll exist here :

$ls -o libpng*
-rw-r--r-- 1 kabuya 126976 2006-05-17 01:57 libpng12.dll
-rw-r--r-- 1 kabuya 203264 2005-05-08 17:55 libpng13.dll

Works peachy here ;)

It's 3MB smaller then CVS. Is that because it doesn't use debugging code?

Same here. About commands.lst: should it be in the game data zipped archive? Or is it created in the .elc dir?

it can happen with the current client too, if you don't have a 'tmp' dir in your DATA_DIR...
If the eye candy textures cannot load but they are placed in proper directory, you are probably missing libpng12.dll. Look for this file in your EL folder.
please, everyone ignore this. it's wrong. .dll files are not used on linux, we have files like .so instead (again, beaverhunter, I'm glad you want to help, but posting misleading information like this doesn't)
command completion for '#beam me' doesnt work for me. 'commands.lst' seems to be missing
without that file, only client-side commands will be known by the client (which includes some that are both server and client side, like #save)
Same here. About commands.lst: should it be in the game data zipped archive? Or is it created in the .elc dir?
it should have been in DATA_DIR (so this is an error for whoever put the packages together. the file is in CVS, although it may well be missing commands (it only needs the server-only command names in it))

for those who use CVS, just copy the file from your CVS dir to your DATA_DIR... or better yet, link to it (eg `ln -s ~/build/elc/commands.lst /usr/local/games/el/commands.lst`)

for those who don't, make a file called commands.lst in your DATA_DIR with the following contents:

#Guild commands:
gm
view_guild_colors
set_guild_color
guild_info
remove
accept
change_rank
rank

add_buddy
del_buddy
clear_buddy
beam me
help_me
abuse
book
stats
research
join_guild
jc
lc
arm

(and any other command names you'd like auto completed, if not already done)

/me slaps his forehead! ;)

Well, with Linux Mono executables linking to .NET .dlls I can see how one could be confused nowadays!

Those whose client arent finding their eye candy stuff: are you able to run the binary from terminal after commenting out the data dir directive in el.ini?

I may be wrong but I was under the impression the datadir thing was there for if you were running the binary from somewhere else, such as one of the system binary paths like /usr/bin (so you can type it anywhere). So if you are running the binary from your el dir, you technically dont need to define the data dir.

Worth a shot anyway.

SpleenFeeder, I just try this, I remove # before data_dir = ...

Game launch same before, but same problem and same error in error_log.txt...

<edit>I have try put EL at default directory (/usr/local/games/el), same thing...</edit>
