I would like to see this feature in, only last week I put something in market, and my message was removed after 20 seconds due to bot spam, I re-announced to make sure people would see the message after all and I had some <censored> sending me mod PMs about not being allowed to send messages after only 150 seconds...

Three is console mode and being able to scroll back thru the history of messages. Logic like this about messages scrolling off too quickly is what would end up causing RS type spamming where everyone will keep constantly repeating their ads and players will be scrolling off your message a lot faster then 20 seconds.

I wasn't going to post on this thread because quite honestly, I don't know if I think there should be a separate channel for the bots. I am on market channel 99% of the time I am in game and I do get annoyed at trying to skim through all the bot adverts to see what players are buying/selling. With that said, I have noticed that some bot owners have significantly decreased their advertisement interval and for that I thank them. I also buy and sell from bots on pretty much a daily basis, but I don't need their ads on market to remind me of the plethora of trade bots that exist in the game. It is beyond annoying for the following scenario to occur and it has happened more than once to myself.

 

bot1 @ 3: selling blah blah blah pm me with Loc to find my location

bot2 @ 3: you have what i want! blah blah use my commands to trade with me

celticlady @ 3: buying hydro bars / selling sr's and dis rings

bot3 @ 3: i am here to trade with you find me at x,y in suchandsuch map

bot4 @ 3: looking to buy x? i have it! come visit me in blah blah

 

And since the bot names look the same as player names (which is fine, I don't care about that) the player adverts blend in and are scrolled off the screen. I don't #ignore the bots because I inv/wanted at least 7 different bots a day and sometimes when I want to clean out excessive inventory that I have I will just wanted all of them until I find enough to buy out my stuff. I have learned to sort of phase out alot of the ones that I know are bots, but it can still be a bit annoying.

 

On the other hand, I see where the bot owners are coming from and why they don't want to be forced off market channel. Thus lies my uncertainty of if I think they should have to goto a separate channel. If it is voluntary, I don't think many will go.

 

I am also on channel 4 alot and see alot of people complain about bot spam on market quite often. Last night I noticed just how much the bots do advertise. It is a non-peak time (I'm in PST) and this is what my chatlog looked like, so I can kinda see peoples problems with the sheer number of trade bots advertising. Guild messages, channel 4, local and PM's some smilies have been removed. This is about an hours time on market. Notice how many bot adverts there are. I counted 82 bot adverts (hope I didn't miscount) in approximately 60 minutes. (sorry, it's kinda long, but wanted to show a decent time frame)

So to sum everything up, if it's voluntary, I don't think many bot owners will move to a separate bot channel. But if the number of bot adverts keeps increasing on market then I think alot more people will simply start to #ignore some/all of the bots because it is getting to be too much. In my eyes, trade bots are a valuable part of the economy. At the same time, they are getting on my nerves and some will soon start to lose my business as I selectively start to #ignore them.

Well just a little question to people:

 

Anyone bought an item from a bot so far when you saw it on an ad on market channel? So far I know only a little bunch of people who ever did it. I think the ads aren't really needed anymore since the bots are a common thing nowadays. As a bot owner myself I would hapely change from channel to keep channel 3 free of bots. I ignored all bots myself too lately and I know a lot of people who did the same. With all bots ignored channel 3 is way better to look at!

For the record, I'm a bot owner, and the someone that PM'd Entropy about this was me. I didn't specifically ask for an official channel as that was being discussed elsewhere. I asked for permission to have my bots monitor a public channel in the way outlined here. My intent was to run it as something of a proof of concept open to any other bot owner that wanted to join.

 

The short of it is that this was suggested by a bot owner. I don't see increasing the advertisement interval as a long term solution to the problem with bots on the market channel. The problem will only resurface again as more and more sales bots enter the game. Eventually the time between bot advertisements will exceed 90 minutes, which would make them rather pointless.

I've been watching this thread with some personal interest.

 

Some of you may have an inkling as to why.

 

Most of my opinions appear on the other thread in the Bot forum.

 

Firstly ...

 

The situation has significantly improved as opposed to a few months ago. Not to say that things couldn't get better.

Again Kudos to the bot owners who have mostly gone along with voluntarily reducing their advertising frequently.

 

Secondly...

 

A separate Trade Bot channel has pros and cons.

 

As LabRat and some other bot owners feel ... they might get shoved off in a corner and ignored thus making their investment in the game ... of reduced value even if there was an automated announcement every 15 minutes on Ch 3 letting people know where the Trade Bot channel was.

 

Thirdly...

A Bot_EBAY (BotanyBay??) channel has great benefits for players:

 

... however the bot owners will quickly find their margins(profit) cut to nothing if there is an instant answer to which bot sells steel helms (or whatever) for the lowest price.

 

... an answer to a specific item does not let the bot owner show off the rest of their fine wares.

 

A Possible Compromise...

 

--> Perhaps a website where all bots current inventory is listed under bot name --> click name see inv... go back ... click on next bot of interest ... would be a better solution.

(Also Learner's rental bots have a page of their own on the website that is a model for this)

As it stands for now...

 

Alternatively you can PM the bots individually by referencing the players online page on the EL website.

--> this is how i currently shop between bots for prices --> first Learner's bunch for convenience then PM the rest.

Why I have only 2 messages (one per bot) and other bots have 3-5? :-( ... I'll set it back to 15 mins, bot owners "self-regulate" sux.

I agree 100%.

I use bots a considerable amount, a few times a day, but its very rare that I see "Selling item @ offer" and decide to go buy it...if anything the bot messages just provide a sort of "Hi...I'm here" then I pm the bots with inv and wanted.

Consolidating all the bots into one channel allows people to find what they're looking for much faster...rather than having to pm every bot and look at the entire inv list, then compare all the offers.

I see 0 reason for it not to be this way, seeing as bots take up more than 50% of the market channel now.

Why I have only 2 messages (one per bot) and other bots have 3-5? :-( ... I'll set it back to 15 mins, bot owners "self-regulate" sux.

Agneum and Titanta are both on that list, and both of them only have one hit each. Some of us do self-regulate, some choose not to. The ones that self regulate are doing something to show good faith, the ones that choose not to are doing exactly as the current rules allow. We do as we feel is best, either for ourselves or the game. It is not for others to judge.

 

Since reducing your advert frequency, have your sales dropped by any great deal? I can say from my side that my sales if anything have picked up, but I am but 2 among dozens.

 

You are well within your rights to go back to posting once every 15 minutes if you think that is right for you to revert to 15 minutes then go ahead. - it was an experiment after all.

I agree 100%.

I use bots a considerable amount, a few times a day, but its very rare that I see "Selling item @ offer" and decide to go buy it...if anything the bot messages just provide a sort of "Hi...I'm here" then I pm the bots with inv and wanted.

from what I've seen in vakana's logs, that's not typical. certain items showing up in the adverts on @@3 cause a lot of interest... other items may not get any interest at all. and I do get sales of the items advertised that time resulting as well

mine have, but that may just be the stock on offer varying (some things clear a lot faster than others)

Ummm...

 

Going back to once every 15 minutes... will raise such an enormous stink among players that the days of bot tollerance on the Market Channel will be of short number.

 

As i said ...

 

The kindly action of bot owners by reducing their postings to every 30-45-60 minutes ... has reduced tensions in the community.

 

If I was a current TRADE Bot owner... I would push for a rule change to once an hour... per advert... possibly assigned spots... perhaps not... (some spots around harv time may be more valuable than the rest of the hour)

 

Or .. look at the suggestion I had above....
